Falcon? Phase Plant? Zebra 2? Which MODERN MODULAR should YOU choose?

I rediscovered Surge XT (was buried under a ton of expensive synths on my drive , being free ...) , it fits with this crowd nicely , so fun , thousands of presets ... who does not love presets ?

Yes Falcon is the most complicated and I would say it's just a very steep learning curve, but at the end I find Falcon also very logical. It really helped me to close and clicking away most of the info panes and focus on: keygroup or layer etc... After some time you really find out that the sort of folder structure interface helps with keeping track of complex sounds, with 2 or or more programs in it. The interface is very consequent.

Falcon reminds me of working in my Akai S6000. So I find it super intuitive. Own all 3 synths discussed here and use each in different ways/situations.

FALCON ... big thing in Falcon is also the sound libraries and many great sample instruments , drum machines and synths collections , they open inside falcon ( like Kontakt but much much better ), falcon is like a daw in some way too , it is so easy to play complete songs with multiple instruments live ! The sounds of Falcon are most brilliant , precise , unlike Phase Plant that often sounds like something you bought on garage sale

great video!! All three have their uses for sure. I'd personally pick either Zebra or Falcon over Phase Plant. Like you said, Falcon takes time but it gives great results! Zebra sounds amazing, I mean its u-he, their synths sound amazing. Phase Plant has a great interface, I personally don't particularly like their filters, which I why I would tend to use zebra or falcon.

Drag and drop works in Falcon, but you need to make keygroups visible

I have the same "plastic" feeling about Phase Plant and the presets... sad because the workflow is good. Will give another try one of these days with their new granular module.. perhaps we can warm it up with some samples particles layers

Just drew analogue-like curved saw manually in Phase Plant and then compared it with Arturia Synthi V saw oscillator. They both have the same sound! Phase Plant has excellent oscillators and with a bit of external processing it can be used for everything.

Thanks for sharing and I also think the same opinion about Phase plant, it's a really a killer synth to create FX and some plucky leads but I would not use for bass or other kind of leads. I really like Kilohearts bundle, their plugins are so intuitive and great to work with. I purchased Zebra 2 on January and I must say it's a *gem* I really connected with this synth and I love the sound. U-HE is one of the best if not the best Virtual synth devs in my opinion.

Before even watching I say: UVI Falcon is my favorite synth ever! Complicated but endless. Love it. Okay now watching the video. (I have been a software developer all my life so Falcon makes sense to me, although it does not present itself as a sampler/synth at all)

Thanks for this comparison.😁 The problem I have with Phaseplant is everyone that reviews it has a preset in it. That shows those reviewers have been bought by Kilohearts.💩 Phaseplant is off my list. I'm still searching for the synth that hasn't bought a review. I'm getting sick of shills.💩💩

for me its only two answers, phase plant and vps avenger falcon is ok but it's very slow to work with, zebra is ok but certainly showing its age ,plus you can dive deep and download cardinal for free :)

Falcon isn't a modular, you can't intercact from an oscillator to another one, the list of modulation is restrictive. I'm not saying is a bad synth, Falcon is more about layering rather than modular. It sound fantastic. PhasePlant is more about un modern modular. Anything can be modulated by anything. But I didn't like filter and effects. That been said.If you are looking for a modular without any modulation limit. The best so far, is Softube Modular for the raw sound and then VCV Rack
