Correction, in the video it says it was recorded in May 2021, it should have said June 2021. I'm a bit late getting this one out, I spent some more time on the little extras for this one. Such as timing the twinkling bell sound with the water splashing on the lens or the power loop and motor noise syncing with the final chord of the audio track and lots more. I feel like all the little things really add to the experience, even if they go unnoticed. Enjoy the ride!

Have you had a quad go down while flying long range? Were you able to retrieve it? Total # of losses and recoveries?
@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
I've had a quad go down on a long range flight a total of four times. I recovered half so two of them. I only recovered the two that went down within 200 meters of me. The other two went down kilometers away, one was in the middle of dense forest way out, so didn't even bother trying to look. The other ran out of battery, wasn't going to make it home so I steered it towards an spot I was familiar with. Went and searched for a couple of hours but the terrain was too dangerous to really do a proper search. Both times it was my only good working quad and gopro. They were over a year apart so probably a reasonable loss rate considering the risks I take for the footage I like getting.

Your videos inspired me to get into the FPV side of the drone flying hobby. It was not as easy as I had hoped it would be but after about 3 months of simulator flying and crashing I have finally learned the basics well enough to have a lot of fun. It has been a year now and so far I have acquired a DJI FPV drone, an iFlight Chimera5 and a Nazgul5, a Beta X75. I bought into the TBS crossfire II controller and I use my DJI HD Goggles. I am very interested in building your drone so if you have a build "Playlist" already available that you can point to I would appreciate it!

So beautiful! I'm very happy with CorrosionX. My quad failsafe and landed on 1 foot thick of snow. Bottom 3 inches was like slurpee. My whole quad was inside the slurpee part, submerged for 30+ mins. I had a very tough time finding it. When I recovered it, it didn't break. I was able to arm it. However, the caddx vista lens was moisted that it's very hard to see. I use hot air to remove the moist, it would go away but comes back after a minute. Even after 2 days, the moist inside the lens was still there. I noticed though the diameter of the moist was decreasing. On the 6th day, the moist was almost gone. I honestly though I broke my caddx camera :D

@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
I've flown the second part 20 + times so I'm way more relaxed flying there. It's was the beginning getting down way below the tree tops while in between them that really worried me. Although diving down the waterfalls at the end would be really sketchy for anyone that hasn't memorized the scraggly patch's ahead of time.

Amazing flying and awesome video! May i ask, how many quads have you lost flying long range? From watching a lot of your videos, you seem very meticulous in your planning of routes, but i know from personal experience, things dont always go to plan. I fly the flywoo explorer LR for mid-range, but would love to build your quad one day (great build tutorial btw), and send it!
@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I've lost two quads with gopro's. One 2 years ago due to a gps failure or glitch, and another about 6 months ago due to a mistake I made in preparation and setup. A video about the more resent loss is coming soon. I lost the gopro footage of course but I have the DVR of the flight as well as lots of footage from a camera that was recording me at the home point when it happened (as well as searching for the quad in crazy terrain. It should be a good video if I can assemble the various footage in a way that tells the story nicely.
@cohendavies3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your response :) Considering the close proximity that you fly and the environments you fly in, losing only 2 quads is fantastic. I was thinking it is a shame you couldnt recover the gopro footage, but your DVR is always so good and clear that im sure it doesnt really matter. Looking forward to the upcoming video!

I would like to know how you retain the video link to your goggles as I find trees a major issue with losing video strength, even over short distances. Great video as always.
@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
All the antennas are I use are just the right ones to make this work. TrueRC singularity on the quad, and two DIY 7 turn helical antenns on my goggles connected to a rapidfire module. The rapifire isn't absolutely necessary but it makes the setup work about 5 to 8 % better than cheaper video receiver module. It's having two helical antennas pointing both right at where the quad is that makes the biggest difference to the video. I also don't really fly behind the trees, that's why I fly this section, the waterfalls go for another 1km above and below this spot but this is the only location where I can get right down in the trees and only get a few branches between the quad and my goggles at the home point. I put a LOT of work and searching and test flying into finding locations that allow for impressive footage and or a cool cinematic perspective of nature.
@chriscflint3 жыл бұрын
@@FalconRadFPV Thank you for the full explanation, I will definitely try to get a set of the 7 turn helicals. I have the Foxeer module in my DJI Goggles for analogue and it seems to work OK. I have tested out to about 1500 meters in clear air with no breakup. For me and a few of my connections you are the Guru when it comes to beautiful long range videos, so please keep doing these videos. Have a great Christmas and New Year.
@drone6023 жыл бұрын
Hi FalconRad, I followed you for a while now. What is your guide on turning home with LQ? Below 25 or something like that? And if you have the polarization vertical, is the bardpole the strongest signal out of the two antennas? Love your stuff, ballsy close proximity flights =) cheers.
@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
Yes I believe the bardpole has a bit stronger of a signal if the transmitter antenna is vertical, as well as the two competing antennas bardpole and Immortal T. For LQ I setup an alarm based off a post by Oscar Liang. I believe it goes off when you are in RFMD mode 1 and at 70% or lower. With RSSI I'm not sure where to start worring, it just always works as long as you have clear line of sight and good well positioned antennas. It usually stays above 20 or less than maybe -110 dbi for me even when as far as a battery can take me. If you fly in the city though, everything is different, LQ could drop much faster and become what holds you back.

I am curious, is the FC you use capable of a return home function in case of signal loss? I am planning kn building my own 7" long range drone but i would like to add some features to minimize equipment loss risk and safety.
@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
Most flight controllers will be able to use a return to home function. Some will have a barometer that helps a little with altitude. For the best return home or hover in place features you might want to use INav firmware instead of the betaflight firmware that I use. Although you would not want to use any return home sort of thing if you lose signal flying through trees like I did here. It would just put your quad into a tree right away. It can only be used in a more open environment, such as the second waterfall I fly later in the video.

Apart from not being able to recover the drone on the mountain, would you even be able to cross the river to begin with? I mean, is there a bridge somewhere?
@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
There is a bridge to that side but its about 4 or 5 km upriver. It does head back that way towards the waterfalls but the road is old and has small landslides on it. Only the first 1 or 2 kms is drivable. The rest of the road could be walked along easily. But that would only get me sort of close. There would still be a lengthy hike through very difficult dense forest just to reach the bottom of the waterfalls. Then of course getting up the waterfalls would require climbing gear and a very experienced guide. Even then it would be extremely dangerous. The effort and/or expense of a recovery would be impossible for me either way. If it's in the water you would never find it or die trying!

Hi, its me again ^_^ very nice video flight, i see a couple of yours video and i think motors 25xx its not worth it? Im still using same as you, Brotherhobby 2806.5.. ithink for build my second 7inch long range quad, with racestar 25xx , what do you think? Better using 2806.5 for my second quad though?
@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
The brother hobby 2806.5 motors are better in my opinion. If you want to try something different I would suggest the tmotor f90. I haven't used them myself but I've seen great results from people and from thrust tests the tmotor f90 seems to have better efficiency.

@@FalconRadFPV thanks, 😊👌 i will stay with 2806.5 then

Hey FalconRad - I recently discovered your page, and after ordering my own 7" quad (Rekon 7). Amazing stuff! You always talk about how you flew this way to get such-and-such shot, but I never see a "polished" clip without narration/informational titles/etc. Do you have a separate channel where you publish the final product of your work? Or do you have some specific clips you can point to which might be appealing to people who don't fly long-range fpv? Maybe I misunderstand you, and you don't actually fly for the purpose of creating scenic drone footage to be consumed by the general public. Either way, thanks again. Keep up the great work!

My footage probably appeals to the FPV crowd more than the general public. I do occasionally post a short cinematic edit of flight footage. Take a look at these, no words or DVR just clean gopro footage cut to the best clips. this is nuts. I don't believe this is possible on a DJI setup.
@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
With DJI I've heard that it takes a bit to restart video if it cuts out, that would be bad when your in-between trees. But I've also heard that it has some really good penetration and range. Anyone out there tried something like this with DJI? How long exactly does the video take to restart if lost?
@BrandonBeans3 жыл бұрын
@@FalconRadFPV I do my long range to 6km with DJI but I'm doing it in much more open canyon environments. Rescue works really well for me because the oak trees are comparatively small with wide spaces between vs the narrow and tall pines you have. With regards to DJI losing video, it can be gone for up to 20 seconds but typical is ~5 seconds and sometimes I pull my goggles up to watch telemetry on my radio if its stressing me out. I rely on rescue far too much 😅
@kibbycabbit3 жыл бұрын
@@FalconRadFPV Random actually.. sometimes 6 seconds.. Sometimes 30 seconds.. That's long enough to crash. So if I get a cut, I just hit GPS Rescue or hit Angle switch and throttle punch out straight up for 5 good seconds and hover (by looking at altitude value) or GPS Rescue until I get the feed back.
@kibbycabbit3 жыл бұрын
@@BrandonBeans In open space, GPS Rescue is great. If It's between trees, I can't depend on it as first thing to do! I would have to level out using Angle mode then punch out.. hehe.. with plus 50 meters before I activate GPS Rescue.. >_>;;

What battery, how long and total distance was the flight?
@FalconRadFPV2 жыл бұрын
It was a 6s2p 18650, so 5200 mAh total. It wasn't all that far out from the home point maybe 2 or 2.5 km, total flight distance would have been around 12 or 13 km

I've been flying quads for 6 years and I've been flying long range for about 3 years. I posted my first long range FPV video a little over two years ago. Freedom Flyer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKHNXqZjitiCjdk
