Let me talk you through mistakes I’ve made and mistakes friends and many others have made within the realm of keeping these birds . It doenst matter whether you fly a harris hawk , goshawk , eagle , owl or falcon !

Love all the tips, always appreciated, I’m thinking about my perch with the weighted feet, I use it very rarely but now see it differently, cheers for highlighting more thoughts that may not arise until it’s to late. Keep smiling and love to all.

Great, as usual... Sadly, as much as I love raptors, I'm a bit of an unorganized type, not at all good at "routine", so, I'll save the raptor world from my mistakes-to-come! BTW, owl chicks are the ugliest things imaginable, almost as ugly as songbird chicks! And, keeping an owl, a night hunter, as a pet, seems lunacy, right from the start, and putting an owl into what amounts to "isolation" for 20-60 years, seems the epitome of cruelty! Dave, you're a godsend to the raptor world!

@@falconry.davesharpenatureboy yes!! Amazing, actually, how huge their beak is, in those days, when there are no feathers hiding it... Quite gross "table manners", even among raptors... seeing a chick getting an entire mouse, or rat, into itself, is amazing, somehow less "appetizing" even, than Peregrine chicks inhaling some string of gut... "Cute " ?? Thanks Dave!

Amazing video as always, so helpful ! If I can ask, what perch would you recommend for keeping in mews for young bird? Getting ready for my first HH and have everything ready but now after you mentioned how bad portable bow perch might be I need to replace it. Hope to have bird freelofted eventually but need something safe for beginning, no spikes unfortunately as have solid floor. Many thanks in advance 🙏

Another great informative video Dave. I think in my 16 years of flying a Redtailed Hawk, I have made many mistakes , mostly due to complacency and letting my guard down at times. It was great to see your Chilean Blue Eagle in the video. I've been toying with the idea of maybe flying one in the future. What's your thoughts on these eagles? Keep up the good work.

Hi just a question for you, i have my first goshawk male hes been in molt since march hes been free lofted, but now i cant get him out the avery, he wont co.e to me, ive got food on the glove but just flies away from me, any tips to get him out saftley without damaging the feathers please

It will be very wild now being a goshawk and you’ll need to re man and train . Get a fishing landing net head with soft mesh , go in and quickly catch and rekit with jesses etc and treat like a fresh bird initially. Easier if Donnie helps you catch-up

@@falconry.davesharpenatureboy Many thanks for your reply, ive managed to get him out and jesses on hes pegged out now, but wont take any food from the glove, would you recommend to keep trying glove feeding or feed him when he goes back in for the night ?

@kellyclark578 just offer food on the glove and if doesn’t feed after a short while pop back somewhere cool and quiet . No point manning a goshawk without an interest in food. Don’t let it get stressed and overheated . Do your manning and training again once food and appetite is involved

That’s a whole new episode , it’s too complex a story for messages I’m Afraid . Just be careful once free it doenst smack you in the face when food or a kill is present . Keep an eye until you trust it and know it better
