Falconry hawk giant hood travel box with slide out perch DIY - ACR Outdoors
Join Rogue my red tailed hawk and I as we build a new falconry hawk giant hood travel box with a slide out perch. The video is the complete build with materials I used.
I forgot to show the venting we added to the top and bottom on each side as shown in the image.

Great box! I made one - here's my review. It is so heavy it's rather hard to move around. It is not deep enough so the bird can't lift it's tail to slice. I ended up with broken feathers. Also the slide out is ingenious, but extremely hard to clean. Nice work otherwise!

I had one made of Luan plywood. 2' ×2' × 1' Perch is one third back and one third up. Plenty of room to slice. Flat black inside with three 1" holes along top. Maple wood stain outside with brass corners and latch. It weighs 13 lbs. But yours is nice too .

My first thought is 3/4 inch plywood is gonna be too heavy. This may be good for a stationary giant hood but definitely not reasonable for transportation. Secondly when building with wood you should consider using marine varnish to make cleaning easier.

3/4" is pretty heavy but I usually leave it in the truck but I can carry it with one hand if needed. Not sure if the varnish would be OK for the bird to breath in even after it's dry?

@@ACRfalconry yes it would have to fully cure before putting a BOP in it. I've seen others use it and it looks good. Some ppl also line it with vinyl although you're basically making 2 boxes at that point. Great video and I hope to see future updates on any other carriers you may create.

Wouldn't the sharp edges of that perch with no padding, damage the feet?

Nice, but bird's go nowhere to slice for lifting its tail or no air holes to breathe with ventilation. Not good for it! :\ Absolutely make longer and with vents and it's good to go.

I did put vents in both sides top and bottom but forgot to show them in the video. You can see them in the picture.
