Nice, large falcons are the reason I'm getting into falconry. My sponsor has had peregrines for a long time I'll ask him what he thinks about the differences in subspecies!

Great info. An Anatum is a bucket list bird. How about a video on Saker vs. Goshawk for a level flight waterfowl and upland game hunting?

Great video Ben! Do you have any footage/photos of a Peales Peregrine on a Canada Goose?

Wow, those young, black Peales look really cool! I wish I could have a Anatum, though. lol. Thanks for your knowledge & comparison insights! 😊

The two races of the Barbary Falcon, pelegrinoides and babylonicus, are often regarded as subspecies of F. peregrinus (Brown and Amadon 1968, Stresemann and Amadon 1979, Brown et al. 1982, del Hoyo et al. 1994), but many recent authors have followed Vaurie (1961), who treated them as a separate species. Birds breeding on the Canary Islands show haplotypes of both F. p. pelegrinoides and F. peregrinus brookei, according to a preliminary study carried out on Fuerteventura Island (Amengual et al. 1996). Wink et al. (2000) also found low genetic variation (

One caveat: As Clayton White explained - pretty much all the phenotypic variation seen across all subspecies, are also found within a single subspecies just varying frequency.

Ben, First let me say that I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for taking the time to post these. I realize that they take a tremendous amount of your time and effort in collecting and editing footage. Time you could be out flying your birds. My question is what subspecies of eastern falcon is currently declared extinct? Is that both in the wild and captivity? I live here in the eastern U.S. and there seems to be some debate on this. Best Regards, Paul M.

I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on the cassini, my pallid male seems to be coming along great. But he's my first big falcon so I don't have much to compare him to.

Ben, would like to see something on the Black Shaheen (Falco peregrinus peregrinator). I've see a Red Naped Shaheen in action and they are impressive. The old British falconers in Indian spoke highly of the Black Shaheen but you don't hear of anyone in the states working with them.

Once again a great video! I have a question: many falconers told me that sakers are more suitable than preregrines for lure work, because they are more reliable, consistent and don't fly that high. Do you agree? Do you find that some specific falcons are more suitable than others for lure work? Thank you

Great video. Can you send a link to your sticky footed video. In my experience Anatum’s are definitely more puppy dog like. Very tame, almost too tame. Even chamber birds can become imprint like, often bonding so much with the falconer they start to scream if not hunted constantly. Where as like you said the Peales is much bigger and can be more aggressive. Especially towards the falconer. It’s been said that if you’re a Goshawker a Peales is almost as crazy as a goshawk. Where as an Anatum is more like a red tail as far as tameness. Both are worthy falconry birds. But the Peales takes a while longer to mature and really get going. Where the Anatum has more migratory pressure so they must mature quickly and so it’s much easier to be successful hunting them right off the bat. Same with Cassini, Fijian, or Macropus. Not a lot of migratory pressure so they mature very slowly. My Peales is nearing the end of the second season and is still in play mode. But that’s my fault 😂

I spent alout times in Utah watching raptors it's my favright pass time and prarie falcons are always going some where some you can find them perched and often they land pumping there wings and fly off you see them for few seconds and gone ok was looking for juvnile red tail and pergrine falcon did that like prarie falcon on the move exsactly the same now was it feeling a gap or slot of prarie and it's catching kangaroo rats prarie dogs jack rabbits ok from distance you think it was prarie from it's going some where same vibe my question to pergrine behave and live exsactly like a prarie falcon in ereas that they both live i seen pergrine and prarie in the same era often on post looking at ducks in pound it's pergrine it's checking out where hang out and fly bird unsuccessful early stages I calling a red tail crance and two prarie falcon flew in like fighter jets in winter and they say oplomados hang as pairs was they doing that they flew in buzzed in dead winter calling of red tail beatuful winter day I tell anyone I just go home ok wonder if pergrine feel a prarie slot and behave very similar I never seen hit a jack rabbits or anything just going some where high strung like a prarie but it was indeed a pergrine do pergrine not always hunt things naturally that are edible to humans ducks pheasant grouse ok these food that is practice for the dinner table and is attempt made to lure them or keep them only connected to dinner table worthy food and seeing pergrine on a rodent path like vibe of prarie is that a dandrouse secret.

The sooty wings are long for it body not as fast if you ever after a stoop touch the birds feathers there hot after stoop alowed to cool of on kill not from physical strain by time the air from the body reaches the wings tips the air is to cold to generat 240 mph same with gyr terminal volosity air restence reach the weight of the object later in heavyer bird but heat friction isn't generated its way bullets are so fast there red hot very small and melted in the air like hot rocks ok is why sooty isnt as fast as pergrine becuse of heat for vortex.heat is why 200 mph yoyr can catch on fire.
