The Water Absorb Cacturne really mattered in this match. The Switcheroo was also very important in limiting that Palafin.

Simple beam on Falinks is funny as you get +2 to all stats and can then psych up to copy that boost onto your partner. It's far too much setup to be competitive but for a troll team it can be brutal

Agreed on the pronunciation, but the most famous users of the phalanx were the Greek city-states, not the Romans (though, early in their history, the Romans used it too.). Think the Sacred Band of Thebes, or the most evil of the city-states, the Spartans. There was also the sarissa phalanx of the Macedonians, used as a pinning force by Alexander the Great. The Romans used a variety of different combat systems, but their most famous and unique was probably the maniple, a more flexible system that requires a different weapon loadout than the hoplite phalanx, the famous Gladius sword and scutum shield, and a couple pila (javelins). I know this is way more detail than is needed for a point about pronunciation, but I just love Classical history, and would like to share an introduction to the stuff I learned from way too many historian blogs and books.

The intricacies of this move are so strange. You can still get forced out and come back and use the move again. You can use no retreat multiple times if you’re already given the “can’t escape” effect like from mean look. Also, if you’re ghost type like from tera or trick or treat, you can still switch. Also shed shell allows you to switch too. So many things. One thing i have yet to try is if you’re hazed you can use it again.

Hell yeah, love this man! I've got one for ya: Tera Fighting Adamant Greedent w/ Ganlon Berry, running Stuff Cheeks, Body Press, Crunch, and some other move. Stuff Cheeks gives it +2 Defense and lets it use the berry right away, Ganlon gives it another +1 Defense. Tera that boy and it smacks people.

Honestly, we should be glad they didn't give this thing to Kingambit because that's honestly a very thematically appropriate move to its design and what it does... and there's no way it wouldn't get banned to Ubers if it did.

I don't think it's thematic at all. Kingambit is a coward who hides behind his troops while Falinks are a brave troop that charges head first into the enemy. No Retreat is probably the least fitting move to give Kingambit.

I would like to mention that Kommo-o does get something similar to No Retreat in Clangorous Soul, which isn't its Z-move but a downgraded version of it. Unlike No Retreat, it costs 1/3rd of max HP to use but it does mean that with a focus on HP restoration, Kommo-o can use the move over and over again, a shame it doesn't get power trip.

Here's an idea: no retreat can't stack if you get stuck because of the move. If you face a pokémon with shadow tag/arena trap or if you use mean look/block on falinks (double battles) you can stack no retreats.
