Agreed. A true punch comes from all your body weight. That’s why a boxer’s punch is much different from a regular person’s arm punch . That is why it is technically illegal for a trained professional boxer to hit someone unles their life is in danger , because their hands are technically weapons . They can kill a average person with no gloves on who is not use to taking that type of blow . It will kill some boxers .

This is called the kinematic sequence, it can be applied to any sport, and is the way the human body can generate the most amount of speed. It is generally applied to golf, but when you break it down it can be applied to any athletic movement that requires generating as much speed and power as possible. The whip analogy is spot on, essentially turning your body into a whip.

The foot you step forward with being straight at the time of punch impact is so important and I’m glad it’s here.
@pimpskywalker31872 жыл бұрын
Why is it important?
@jacquep23632 жыл бұрын
@@pimpskywalker3187 if the knee is bent then you are leaking kinetic energy. Similar to pitching in baseball. T maximize the kinetic energy that legs gotta be straight. I understand, as a kickboxer, that you can’t do that every time but when you want the power. You want to snap that leg back like a catapult and follow through.
@mohaastella Жыл бұрын
Can someone link me more info on this. I thought it was wrong to have it straight like that .
@mohaastella Жыл бұрын
Okay I'm convinced it is bullshit. You can catapult all your weight into a baseball throw like that but it is not how it is in boxing, and even then I'd imagine you will need to throw more of yourself side ways, not remain square with the lead leg in front stopping the momentum like in the video.
@jacquep2363 Жыл бұрын
@@mohaastella if you don’t stop the momentum from leaking out of the front leg (knee) you are losing kinetic energy. Locking the front knee forces all of the energy to come out through the arm/hand and doesn’t get wasted. I’m talking how to maximize explosiveness. In an actual fight you wouldn’t punch that way because it leaves you defenseless. But just throwing as hard as possible.. that knee has to catapult.

That's why Manny is so strong despite his height, he has the calves of a titan
@rockywalker34693 жыл бұрын
Its not calves size. 95% of boxers have very small calves some of them the hardest punchers. Pacman has big ones cause of asian genetics.
@ohsyg5313 жыл бұрын
@@rockywalker3469 yes genetic plays a big role for calf growth, but pacman train his calf effectively, do check his calf conditioning routine, pure hell.
@yousnoozeyouloze2 жыл бұрын
Calf muscles have very little to do with it. It's how the energy transfers. Also, there are a lot more important variables than size.
@seandlax92 жыл бұрын
The calves have literally nothing to do with it. Dropping back the foot allows you to open and twist/torque your hips, which in turn engages your back. That's where your power comes from.

Heavy dumbbell rows, standing side twists, dumbell bench and rear delt raises are the best lifts for punching power. @SomethingWithZ3 жыл бұрын
This was a very vague explanation of how to generate power. I don’t know if you know how to properly box, but when you throw a cross, rotate your hip and your foot to generate more power. You can get an idea of what it should look like when you do this by just watching the lower half of the skeleton throwing the cross in this video.
@SomethingWithZ3 жыл бұрын
If you’re not sure about stance, put your elbows near and in front of your ribs. They don’t have to be directly on your chest to my knowledge. Bend your knees slightly. and if you want to be faster, stay on your toes. You can be flat footed if you want, it generates more power but at the cost of speed.

If you want to see the absolute best boxer at taking advantage of the Kinetic Chain in history, nobody, and I mean nobody did it better than Mike Tyson at his prime. Every single bob and weave coiled his whole body to it's maximum, so when he unloaded, every single punch was fast, and a power punch. It's what made him such a dangerous heavyweight. He was one of the smallest, and was impossible to hit. And his coiled punches made him the hardest puncher in the ring with everyone he faced.

Size also means the kinetic linking,speed,your own mass,pivoting your heels, twisting your hips,using your back well basically the whole body. Dont let height or weight be a downfall for ya yes it helps the other guy but a 4 year old can knock out a yokozuna if he does a proper punch to the jaw or temple

A punch doesn’t come from the feet, it comes from the momentum of your arm going to the fist, the feet push the reach to make a better connection and better momentum. Obviously

No. The timing, accuracy & hitting an opponent when he doesn’t see the punch coming are all more important than your little force formula. There are guys that will absolutely crush you with a punch and are tiny 150 pound guys. One of the most vicious punchers in boxing is Nonito Donaire, he fights in the 118 pound weight class and has almost killed people with his shots...because his counter punching and timing and accuracy is amazing and in boxing there is a saying “the punch you don’t see is the punch that hurts the most” If you think it’s a mathematical formula you don’t know shit about boxing. Zuri Lawrence, a retired heavyweight boxer had 24 wins with ZERO knockouts....he was 6’4 and weighed 240 pounds. By your mathematical formula how’s that possible he never knocked someone out? Carlos Zarate weighed 115-118 pounds and had 63 of his 66 wins come by knockout.... This is combat, not math class.

@@nickcaesar7650 What do you mean 'No'? All he's doing is just simply stating a formula for the force of a punch, he hasn't said stuff like 'only the force would determine how good you punch' so there is nothing to disagree with. Chill 😑🙄 😅🤣❄❄❄✋✋✋
