BNSF 9532 at 4:23 has ditchlights flashing. is that rare for BNSF?

No some just dont turn them on

Actually, it's a rarity for BNSF, a lot of MAC's on BN (pre merger) had flashing ditch lights, but most don't anymore. It's rare for UP as well, but you do see some AC4400CW's with flashing ditch lights that are former SP.

Yeah this was a nice place, my friend and I set up for a few hours and had no problems. There is a boat launch past the crossing and there are people always around. Just be aware of whose property you are on so you don't trespass.

Yes a large spot of gravel there. I definitely would consider this an afternoon to evening shooting area, It's pretty much impossible to park on the east side of the tracks for morning light.
