Yes to men’s department. I was trying to find a white overshirt in linen or cotton over the summer. As a plus size woman I can never find the right fabrics for the summer. I found a bunch of these easy cotton linen blend shirts in the men’s department and in my size. It’s sad that women, especially plus size can’t find good quality. When I find an item in natural fibers, I buy them up. I am in the hunt for a leather camel trench coat. At my size it will be hard, but you inspire me to not give up. Thanks for another inspiring video!

I know it may seem impractical, but maybe purchasing leather material and have it custom made for you. I've had to do that for clothing I can't find and really want. I have a faux leather bomber from Eloquii, but my arms are larger and I had to have it customized. The things we do for fashion. Good luck in your pursuits!

Thank you for the video Karen! Sunglasses are always a good idea, even in winter. They protect your eyes. The lack of pockets in women's wear is, I am sure, a deliberate practice. Years ago in the 1930s, Diana Vreeland tried to push for pockets in women's clothes and Carmel Snow who was the editor at Harpers at the time, block the move citing the backlash from the handbag manufacturers.

Yes. So right about menswear. I still remember a forest green wool blazer from the Gap. I bought on THAT sale rack…the one wayyy in the back of the shop with the most random, old, out of season stuff and I found her there. I always felt like a million bucks in it. Cool, effortless and comfortable. God, that was 30 years ago and I still remember it well. Amazing!

I love camel and rust tones, too. They’re not great with my cool complexion, but I wear them anyway, often with a white collared shirt to make them play better with my skin tone. Or, I wear them on the bottom, with a softer, but tonal, shade near my face, like a beige.

They are better quality clothing. I agree with you better made. The 70s I always wore men jeans they fitted better better quality they lasted me for a long time. I love, love, love these hacks Karen. They all work for me! When I was younger I hit the thrift shops for men’s 40’s tweed jackets and coats. I loved them as I did men’s classic 501’s. As I am now older and my body as changed, I find I gravitate much more to fitted jackets, clothes that accentuate my waistline and minimise by bust and hips. I just put a gorgeous menswear suede blazer into the give-a-way bag and your hack about wearing a skinny belt with it got me running to pull it out again. Thank you!

Thank you so much for going into so much detail. Color is very emotional and sentimental to me. Since I was a child I still love green, blue and purple together because Agnes Moorehead wore that combo on her Endora costume in Bewitched. And in the sixties,, my sister had a navy, turquoise and green shift dress that she wore with translucent beads in matching colors. These colors make me feel cozy and exuberant. I love jewel tone tops with white or ivory pants. I just ordered a shiny copper-color mid-weight puffy coat and I can't wait to wear it with cream pants. Also ordered a tomato red puffy coat. Enough said. Thank you for helping me use clothing to elevate every occasion from doing laundry and grocery shopping to eating out. BTW, your outerwear advice has been so useful as outdoor events and outdoor dining are so prevalent. Coats no longer cover up, they are the main feature. And you are my inspiration.

Awesome video!!!! I loved ALL of your fashion hacks! I especially love the long coat suggestion…I don’t care that I’m 4’10” and in my late 60’s, I feel absolutely chic and amazing in my “to the ankle” coats! I love your edgy look with the wide belt…I wear wide belts all the time, mostly fall/winter. I will definitely be wearing that oversized knit crop sweater (jumper) with my long black slip dress along with some chunky boots or black converse sneakers! I’m so tired of fashion bloggers telling me what I can’t wear over 40, 50, etc and being quite the petite girl. I love wearing clothing items in the most unexpected ways! Sometimes just by flipping them, reversing them, or wearing a top or sweater inside out can create a more fun or edgy look! I NEVER walked out of my house with an outfit on that has not been carefully planned out. My outfits influence my mood and the way I carry and present myself…If I start my day in a “sucky” mood, I can creatively change it simply by up styling my outfit! Throwing on that punch of color, like you suggested, such as my bright orange pumps, certainly turns up the mood on an otherwise blah day! A piece of statement jewelry has often transformed a casual outfit into “Wow” outfit with no effort at all! There are always rules of proportion and balance that should be considered (as an artist I am well aware of this); however, be the canvas and just paint away!!! Perhaps today I will channel Picasso!!!

I used to love fashion and wearing what I wanted, and then I slowly fell out of it. Now I'm almost 30 and I feel like I don't know who I am anymore fashion-wise. (Side note: it makes that "what not to wear" show make sense to me now a bit - I wonder how many other women find themselves in a slump following various periods of transition or who just fell out of it like me...) But I have to say, you, (your passion, and the kind of "fuck it, do what makes you happy" attitude you radiate) are making me so happy and excited about fashion for the first time in a long time. I'm so sick of being around people who judge people for making bold, personal, unique fashion choices, and I'm sick of thinking about others when I look at clothes. Thanks for the tips to help me rock it, and for the energy to encourage me to just go for it anyway. What fun is there in fashion if you have to be afraid of making mistakes?? My tip for buying real leather trousers and skirts, buy them snug. I didn’t know, when I bought my first item, how much it stretches over time. I wouldn’t go down a full size, because we tend to gain weight with age and these are forever items, but if in-between, buy the snugger fit.
