As a person who sews, I love your emphasis on well-made, well-fitting clothes. That’s one of the reasons I learned this skill. You made the point of wearing labels vs. labels wearing you and I feel like this is one of the main essences of real style. Another gem of a video!

Karen, you are so right about vintage being better. The cashmere sweaters are thicker and more lush and the skirts and slacks are usually fully lined. Love everything about thrifting!! Congrats on reaching 300k subs!!!!!

Love this video Karen. I started as a teenager, wearing my father's "old" blazer and never went back. I wore thrifted, men's suit vests (waistcoats) to high school (sixties) with my jeans and Ts...Also hippie/boho stuff, but you get the idea.

Yes, Karen! I’m so grateful for the stylish women in my family (mom, aunts, Gran) who understood the need to curate a wardrobe. And whether high-end or vintage, quality was always at the forefront. ✨✨

Yes love my vintage pieces! That camel outfit is so sharp. I think you're about both vintage and lux because you like both. I like lux too but my lux is 90 percent consignment/thrift. I love it and I have no problem sharing my "where'd you get that?" when asked.☺️✨ Thanks for sharing

A knit dress with a “matching” long coat and boots is an easy winter monochrome look, super-comfy, too. If it’s really cold, tights or thin leggings can be worn underneath.

Love it and love old vintage pieces. And can I add, green IS your colour Karen!👌💕

I agree about it being about how one mixes clothing pieces together to get one's own style. Coming from a generation (I'm mid-60s) where it wasn't all about just designer pieces, but instead about getting clothing pieces from a lot of sources across the board and just knowing how to style them. My parents and their friends always looked sharp as does my (mid-90s-aged) mom still to this day. And they didn't do a lot of cookie cutter looks. Their clothing styles expressed their own personalities and they were also chameleons of fashion. They always left the house looking, "presentable". I agree about many way-back vintage pieces being well made as back in the day folks held onto their clothing for longer periods and then just restyled those pieces in later years to develop a more updated look. I still have clothing pieces dated back as far as the early 1980s and I bring them out, from time to time, and restyle them. Greetings from Los Angeles

You are absolutely right about the sunglasses. I have over 10 pairs that I pair with different outfits. It’s the accessories that really put an outfit over the top. Jewelry, hats, glasses/sunglasses, and, of course, shoes are key elements that really define style. I love vintage pieces, as well…..you are so right, they just take the outfit to another level! I never considered shopping in the men’s department prior to viewing your channel for the 1st time many months ago. Now I always check out the men’s section when shopping, particularly at vintage and thrift shops. Thank you for your great vision and creativity in fashion and style!

Hiii! I’m a new crossover follower from Arvin’s channel and a NY native currently living in NJ. I’m LOVING your channel and your fashion advice. I just wanted to say after watching this I went and tried on all of my husbands coats and jackets and I cannot believe how chic they look on me!!!! I’m so excited to start wearing them! Brilliant cross dressing hack. 😂 love love love it and super excited to keep learning more from you. I used to dress so different and fun when I was in my 20’s, but I’m in my early 40’s now and realizing how boring my styling has been the last few years. I think I’m ready to start having fun again, and I think you’ve awakened that part of my personality again so thank you!! I also pulled out some old sunglasses and hats and started mixing and matching dressy with casual. Such, such brilliant advice. I needed this new perspective especially on my old things. I can’t wait to create some super unique looks! Happy New Year to you and yours!

Yes Karen...totally agree....Clothing was made so much better years ago.....I work as a Window Dresser in Men's Clothing stores...throughout the years I have met many a "seasoned salesman", much older than I, who had so much knowledge about materials, cuts, patterns and workmanship...and they knew what "a well made piece" really was...Their experience and their stories of days gone buy are priceless........I was asked one time...."Do you see the two outside flap pockets on one side of this suit?....Do you know what the smaller one on the top was used for many years ago?".........I had no idea........Theatre tickets....I envisioned the 1940's in N.Y....A sharp well dressed man with suit and hat on his way to see a show.....Happy Thanksgiving

Hi Karen - love your videos. This one reminded me of a great CAMEL coat I have tucked away in the back of my wardrobe. It's over 40 years old & belonged to my husband ( It's mine now - he can't fit into anymore). I remember the day we bought it from Austin Reed in Knightsbridge. It is a gorgeous wool cashmere in a trench style - love love love it & I will keep it forever. Haven't worn it much in the past years - our winters here in Sydney are getting warmer & with lock-downs I haven't had much chance. Looking forward to next year & it is coming out! I'm going to take it to the dry-cleaners in prep & to give it a refresh. I agree with you - clothes before fast fashion was so much better quality & better made. I love vintage but as I get to that stage myself I keep a outfit to just one quality vintage piece & maybe a piece of jewellery. Keep smiling that beautiful smile.

I have several jackets from my late husband and can't part with them. They are XL so the sleeves and shoulders are way too large, and I don't look good in them. Should I get a shawl scarf, or is there some other way to kind of "hide" without hiding that you could think of? Happy holidays.
@KarenBritChick3 жыл бұрын
I'M sorry for your loss. You can get the sleeves shortened for a start and see if a tailor can adjust the shoulders. I prefer that versus covering an already big jacket with a shawl. That way you can really show off your style and his : )
