Rebecca, something I really appreciate about you and your designs is that you really take into consideration both the knitter and the wearer, sometimes one and the same person and sometimes one person knitting for another. I also appreciate that you include multiple options in your pattern. Experienced knitters can usually figure out how to modify patterns, but especially for new or inexperienced knitters, having a pattern with several different options that take into consideration different body types is a wonderful gift to your customers. Thank you!

More than value for money, the options you provide in your patterns have helped me understand garment construction better.

One designer that came straight to mind when you were talking about interesting constructions was wool and beyond!! She takes ready to wear techniques and applies them to knitwear in a way I’ve not seen other designers doing

Re: "basics" that are interestingly constructed, I can recommend Teti Lutsak's square-neck, modular patterns: the Bifurca Vest and Blouse and the Drevo Sweater. Her next pattern, the Candelaria Blouse, continues this design approach, adding a very interesting shoulder construction. I put basic in quotes, because Bifurca and Candelaria are colorwork and Drevo has some cables and all-over ribbing, so they're not exactly "basic", but the underlying constuction is fascinating to knit and think about! They have really expanded my mental horizons re: how to design for fit. Excited for all of your fall and early winter designs! Thanks for sharing your process-- I am such a process nerd 🤓💛

I bought my first pattern from you (Lauder), and need to tell you: You rock! What an amazing pattern - both in detail as well as the additional versions you include. What a departure from other designers who 'tweak' small thing in order to sell related patterns. Thank you for your scientific level detail in your patterns as well as your obvious generosity.

I knit a lot of Thea Colman patterns and her texture work, I think, is second to none. The way she increases and decreases within those textures shows a lot of thought. Happy birthday and good luck with the move! Enjoy your thirties. Things really do get easier and more fun as you get older!

I know I’m late, but happy birthday! As someone who is new to knitting, I cannot express how much I appreciate the options your patterns offer. It’s like taking a class on tailoring for knitting. Which makes me feel like I can take what I learn from the different necklines in lauder and apply it somewhere else. Personally, I absolutely hate anything around my neck, so the v-neck option in the lauder is a godsend. (because the lauder is just gorgeous btw) but now I’m eager to try turning another sweater pattern into a v-neck. Thank you for all your hard and amazing work!! ❤❤

There are SO many amazing size-inclusive designers that I feel should be getting more attention. Some of my favourites that I've made or am planning to make are: 03 Rib Cami by Eleanor Alice; Pillars Tank by Claire Jackson / Perfectly Knotted; Into the Woods, Through Shadows, and Wildflowers Path by Melody Hoffmann; pretty much anything by Herbgarden Knitwear; and anything by Tricot Design MCL / Marie Christine Lesveque. Claire Jackson has a newly released pattern called the Market Henley if you're still looking for a Henley sweater option.

Your focus on value in patterns makes so much sense. Your experience as a sewer (sewist) says that it's the same pattern if just the collar, neckline or fabric changes. I'm looking forward to your texture sweater. I've been looking for a horizontal textured sweater that is not drop shoulder, since I don't think that looks good on me because I'm so small. The Ultimate All-Around Stitch Dictionary has stitch patterns written differently if you're knitting top-down, bottom-up or in the round. I wasn't obvious until I tried to create a texture from an old stitch dictionary and realized it wouldn't work for knitting in the round. Happy Birthday! Fear not! Your 30's will be great!

Happy birthday!! I'm SO EXCITED about the stick season cardigan. I'm currently living in a climate where knitwear will be a necessity during Autumn/Winter/possibly Spring, but I'm originally from Australia where I will be returning to. So, what I mean to say, is that sweaters are not that practical in Western Australia (similar climate to Brisbane, but less humid), I think cardigans will be more versatile for both climates. Also thank you for being so thoughtful about adding variations to give your customers bang for your buck! ❤

Hi Rebecca and happy birthday! I enjoyed hearing about your design process. I thought you were talking right to me as I’m hacking my way through a faux-gansey, top-down tee. I’m a plus size, very large breasted lady, and when I split for the arms, I found that the back was huge and there would be a ton of fabric under my arms in the back. I had to rip back and resize the back while also adding short rows in front. Clearly, this style top is not a good one for me. I have been successful with raglan and set-in sleeved tops, so I think my next one will be your Tolsta tee but with either 3/4 or long sleeves. It looks like it’s a great basic shape that I can easily adapt to fit properly, especially since you include directions for an F cup! I also love the ribbed swatch. The raglan design is so interesting! I’m looking forward to seeing the finished sweater.

Happy Birthday, and many thanks for the weekend discount; I took full advantage. I very much appreciate your aesthetic & the value added additions to your patterns. Relating to "basics" construction, I'd recommend looking at Ysolda Teague's patterns (KZbin videos). Like you, she goes at a sweater pattern construction from a garment pattern perspective. This matters most as you grade up into larger sizes. I recently knitted her Anyday Sweatshirt; it s the **BEST** fitting pullover I've knit to date! I usually knit an XL size, but at about this size patterns often get out of hand, especially drop shoulders. You appear to have the right idea with your sleeve cap short rows; Ysolda also decreased a bit under the arm at the start of the sleeve in the afore mentioned pattern which keeps the drop shoulder from becoming a batwing thing for those who need a longer yoke before splitting. She is the first designer I've found that rather than just grading up, took each size into consideration and made the necessary adjustments to flatter as sizes increased, thus my garment is perfect, not a boxy batwing looking thing one too often gets at larger pattern sizes. I also appreciated a realistic sized armhole for the size I'm knitting. Her patterns are worth a look see. I also had good luck with Natasja Hornby's pattern, Malin; another use of short rows in the sleeve cap. Plus, she's quite the creative designer. Anyway, you seem to be doing just fine on your own; your patterns are all quite lovely.

Thank you for this very interesting podcast; I love your swatches (especially the cable swatches!). I was wondering if there is a programme or an app that converts bottom-up-constructions into top down-instructions. I bought the pattern for a really lovely cardigan that is knitted in five separate pieces, which are then sewn together; I don't feel like doing that... 😇 Have a great birthday on Monday!

For interesting constructions I definitely recommend Wool and Beyond. She uses a lot of techniques that look like ones you would use with sewing, but translates them to knitting. Sideways yokes, ruffles and interesting finishing details. Another good one is LilyKateMakes! She’s the best at making perfect fit items with tons of short rows (even short rows within double knitting) while creating timeless designs

Laughed out loud when you started showing the swatches for broken rib, because at the moment I am working on a broken rib Tolsta Tee because I love the look of the Friday Tee, but need the fitting assistance that the bust shaping update offers.

Regarding the hood-my favourite/ best-fitting hood I’ve ever knitted was from Andrea Mowry’s Traveler. She used short rows to shape the hood and it made it both very comfortable and actually useful as a hood. If you’re familiar with a short row heel, I’m sure you can make the concept work for your hoodie design 🙂

I watched Knitty Natty talking about how interesting the construction was in one of her most recent episodes. It looked so clean.
