Hey all- the comment the following was in response to has since been deleted (NOT by me) but I wanted to keep this up: Hey! Discussed this in an earlier comment. You are totally right, it was lazy of me to not look up pronunciations (of designer names) and I will be doing so moving forward! With a video involving this many patterns I was overwhelmed and this was a corner I cut and that's not okay. It was absolutely not my intention to dismiss anyone's name but I totally understand how it seems that way and I am really sorry. I worry a lot that mispronouncing someone's name is more disrespectful than trying and failing to pronounce, but you guys have helped me see that the effort is what's most important. Moving forward I will be using an IPA chart to sound out any names I have trouble with and giving it my best effort. I genuinely appreciate your feedback and again I sincerely apologize for making anyone feel dismissed, that is NEVER how I want ANYONE to feel on my channel.

Hello again, i left a nice comment this morning because that is what i do. I had watched about 10 mins and left a nice comment. HOWEVER, i am now half way through your video and feel COMPELLED to thank you. this video is amazing. I have added at least 10 sweaters to my Q and i cant believe how many things you are showing that i have NEVER SEEN! I watch a lot of podcasts and you have done an outstanding job. I have had a quick look at a number of them that made my q and you are right - they are little known designers. Good for you for giving them some airtime. I am sending your video to my friends. I hope thousands watch it and you get heaps of whatever you get from youtube. You certainly earned it. :) jacqui

This is terrific! All the hard work you put into this, wow! Thank you! I am relieved you admitted you can’t pronunciate many of the designer names. I am like that too, it is so hard, and where do we even begin to learn to say their names??? This is my first time hearing your podcast and I am now subscribed. Thank you so much for an informative podcast ❤

You’re so kind, thank you 😭🫶 your plans sound amazing!! SO smart to start fall projects in the summer, you’ll have so much time to actually wear them!! If you want a simple and quick little accessory maybe try Tamara Jordan’s double knit headband! She has a tutorial on her channel! I’ve made a few and they work up SO fast and are perfect for leftover yarn scraps. And they look absolutely darling with a matching cardigan or sweater 💕💕

You make such awesome inspo videos! This one has helped me hone in on the few I can realistically make this fall! Oh, and you absolutely should have some neutral colors! Those of us who are too scared to play with color are jealous of how comfortable you are with it, but neutral staples do have their place!

Thanks for a great video! Loved your commitment to fall patterns haha. My only comment is that I encourage you to give pronouncing names a try - especially as some of them were super easy and it's important to go that extra step. If we can easily pronounce complex traditionally western names then phonetically sounding out non-western names to at least give it a try is worth the extra effort to be respectful to the designers. Just a thought for next time :) But love your content and keep up the great stuff!
@byathreadknits5 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for being so respectfully constructive about this!! I totally agree. I was worried that mispronouncing might be more disrespectful, but I think you’re right, putting in the effort is more important than being perfect. Definitely going to take this to heart and thanks again for being so kind 🫶

Love this video! Cannot wait for fall. Sidenote: I would suggest Camilla Vad's patterns only to those who do not mind mistakes. I've made the Magnolia bloom and the field slipover myself and both patterns contain spelling or number mistakes. Now, I also have the field sweater pattern but I won't be making it anytime soon because the mistakes bother me a lot. So if the mistakes don't bother anyone else, go for it! If it would bother you, maybe save your money my knitting friends (the designer has been contacted several times by many people but refuses to acknowledge the issues with the patterns)
@byathreadknits4 ай бұрын
That is so disappointing to hear ☹️ thanks for sharing your experience! That definitely changes how I feel about the pattern (which is so sad because that stitch pattern is so beautiful)
@Butterfly01_NL4 ай бұрын
@thatswhatskeinsaid it is a lovely stitch pattern and I really wish the designer would take the feedback and change things. But unfortunately that is not the case 😢 I just wanted to let people know just in case they wanted to buy them. Because I bought the patterns during a sale and when I started working on them I noticed the comments everywhere about the translation, writing and number mistakes
@AutumnSun1403 ай бұрын
Although i love that you want to focus on smaller creators for the most part I think it's unnecessary to apologise every time you bring up a petite knit pattern. There is a reason her patterns are so popular; they're clear, pretty and timeless. It's okay to mention them, especially when you highlight smaller creators as well 😊

Thoughts on wrap sweaters. Almost every maker is not happy with the wrap. The struggles I am hearing; how to fasten the wrap. It is saggy, it is bulky, it adds thickness at the tummy area. The version you have shown solves most of these problems.

I personaly dislike those comments on pronouncing the designers names. You did a great job with your bundle, the desigs are easy to find on ravelry and you made a recommendation. That is very nice for the designers and also a form of advertising. And it is very nice for us, if we like a pattern, we can immediately put it into our favourites. Pronouncing unknown and difficult names is no sign of respect. I am sure, all the designers are happy to be mentioned and highly recommended here. Sign of respect is to show us the special designs and why they are knitworthy. If somebody needs a language school, I think a knitting podcast is not the right way to achieve.
@corinna53514 ай бұрын
Exactly. Nobody can pronounce all the names from different languages/backgrounds and why would it even be important. I think it‘s more important to write it correctly, that should be foolproof and then everybody can look up their names and find their designs anyway.

I adore your personality. You are so much fun to watch. I’ve watched another one of your videos and the only reason I didn’t subscribe (and still hesitate) is because your videos have waaaay too many ad breaks. I feel like I watch for a couple of minutes and just when I’m relaxing into your chat, I have to stop knitting to skip another ad. Maybe this is something you can look into and maybe cut back on? I’d be a subscriber and dedicated watcher if you did. Thanks for sharing your pattern round-up. 😊

Oh weird! I believe the ads are set by KZbin. The only thing I’ve ever done ad wise is turn monetization on, it never gave me the option to choose the amount of ads. I’ll look into it!
@JosieThenFarmer4 ай бұрын
From what I understood, recently KZbin has been experimenting with different adds in different countries. I’m regularly in a livestream, and some people get so many add breaks. And others don’t.. it’s not something that creators themselves can regulate. It used to be like that! But isn’t anymore

With that particular example I saw the name Liv and gave it a shot knowing I likely had the first part correct at least. Girl, what kind of community are you part of?! I’m seven minutes in and you’ve asked us not to get mad at your hair, not to get mad because you threw a couple PetiteKnit patterns in there, and not to get mad at how you pronounced “Matisse”. I’m not out to get ya 😳
@giorgiagreselin3 ай бұрын
Oh, as a foreigner living in the US, I prefer people not pronouncing my name than pronouncing it and totally destroying it. But, at the end of the day, I really don’t care. Both sets of people tried to do what they thought was most respectful and I appreciate it. Now I definitely understand what community you’re part of and it does explain your constant asking for people not to get mad at you. They are so toxic. I’m sorry. Thank you for the having the self awareness of being unable to pronounce a name and politely refuse to do it. Please continue to do what YOU think is best. Hugs
@byathreadknits3 ай бұрын
I literally almost responded to this with “I’m sorry!!” Hahahahaha I have really bad anxiety if that wasn’t completely obvious lol but people like you reminding me that I don’t need to apologize all the time genuinely do help!!! Also once someone did comment that they found my bangs “irritating” so the hair thing was unfortunately not entirely unfounded lolllll
@王艺璇-w3k4 ай бұрын
Hi Maddie, thanks for curating these beautiful patterns, I appreciate the effort you put into this video. One suggestion is that please try and prounce people's names when showcasing their work next time. It is a form of recogination and credit giving, so it should not be taken away just because those names look different. Attempt it, say it badly, even that is already way better than not saying it. Women as creators and makers have long been made nameless, erased and anonymous throughout history. Please make efforts to not do that to female creators again.
