Item title reads - Fall of Cherbourg. France.
Various shots of American troops putting local labour to work repairing a marshalling yard which received heavy bombing by the allied air forces during the occupation, various shots of the wreckage. Various shots of U.S. troops in the bombed ruins of the town of Valognes. L/S buildings which are half standing and unsafe, they are finished off with the aid of dynamite. Bulldozers plough through the wreckage. Various shots at a captured German equipment dump, the U.S. troops sort through damaged tanks, cars and guns, etc. A doodlebug is tipped onto the scrap heap. Aerial shots of heavily bombed area near the Normandy coast, there are bomb craters everywhere. Various shots of troops looking at damaged gun emplacements of the Atlantic Wall. Various shots of a massive concrete structure for housing giant rocket shells, it was captured prior to completion. M/S's of camouflaged shed which was a V.1 store.
Various shots of naval barrage being laid by British and American ships off Normandy, shells burst near the ships including H.M.S. "Glasgow". L/S mass drop of supplies by parachutes from Stirling bombers. Various shots of R.A.S.C. (Royal Army Service Corps) men going out and getting the supplies from the containers, they drive them to the front line. Various shots as U.S. infantry move along road towards Cherbourg, in the outskirts the soldiers have to avoid sniper fire. Good shots as the U.S. soldiers fire back during running street battle. M/S German soldier with white flag coming out of large doorway. He leads out a line of prisoners with their arms raised. Various shots of more prisoners being rounded up. This includes shot of American soldier with bandage over his face while guarding the prisoners. They then frisk the prisoners and march them off, there are two women at the front. M/S inside medical tent, a U.S. doctor with a nurse poses with newly born baby and its French mother. Various shots showing surrender of high ranking German officers. Lieutenant-General Carl Wilhelm von Schlieben capitulates to U.S. General Collins. Then Rear Admiral Hennecke, Sea Defence Commander of Normandy, is brought in. M/S soldiers milling about outside.

On 26 June, the British elite force No. 30 Commando also known as 30 Assault Unit launched an assault on Octeville Cherbourg - a suburb to the south west of Cherbourg. This was the location of the Kriegsmarine naval intelligence HQ at Villa Meurice which the Commandos captured along with 20 officers and 500 men.

Interesting that he called that Remote Control little tankette a “Doodle-Bug”. I thought this term was reserved for V1s.

The United States. They paid to rebuild most of Europe after the war in the Marshal project

If you slow the speed down 1/2 way you see some poor basterd dropping through the sky when their parachute doesn't open...ugh.

They were dropping supplies so it was likely ammunition or C-rations that hit the ground a little harder than anticipated.

Being a German POW of the Americans couldn't have been too bad, after the war some German POWs returned to the USA to live.
