the lower key of the live performance of this song serves patrick so well; he does way more alternation with the melody here, especially in the last chorus, and it sounds incredible! while the higher key sounds arguably more impressive and fits the polished studio vibe, this works so much better live. and patrick seems to be really enjoying himself here as well. i just keep coming back to this performance!

i loved a girl in middle school. we had started our “summer fling” in the earlier summer months and everything came to an end around the fall months. we weren’t built to last, i ended up with a guy and she went off to college classes. i still think about her when i hear this song and a couple of the other so called “petekey” songs because it’s so damn relatable. she is my favorite what if and my best i’ll never know.
