Have a look at hand tying with pearl cotton for quilting your project. It’s a nice intro to hand quilting and looks lovely.

I hand quilted my first quilt with no experience (against the advice of experienced quilters lol) and it was fantastic. Made it so much more squishy and soft after washing and was a perfect lap project for sitting on the couch :)

That’s so good to hear! I do love the look of squishy hand quilted blankets.

If the quilt is for summer you don't need to use batting inside. If you put right sides together you can stitch all the way around leaving a place to turn it back out. After turning and ironing you can pin and mark tie spots every little bit in a row scheme or pattern! Use perle cotton or a nice button twist thread which is very heavy thread. You can even do this with a piece of flannel or even a very light blanket inside the backing and top.

Closet Core Patterns has an excellent blazer pattern, Jasika, I think. I think it has a course as well .

I sew both garments and quilts but hate sewing trousers so I bought the Ozma pants (2 pairs, that fabric is magic) and wear them all the time. I’d definitely watch you create a dupe! I completely relate to putting something off that feels difficult but finishing up those projects is the best feeling. I prefer machine quilting personally and have found Quilter’s Dream to be the best and easiest batting to use. I have a Bernette and a Brother machine and they both work well enough for machine quilting. You could also do both in combination for some added interest.

That’s great to hear! Thank you also for your suggestions :) I’m looking forward to finishing up and will experiment with what techniques work with my materials. Thanks for watching!

Ok, so, I have quilted a lot on my small Viking. It’s the most basic one you can buy. I love it! It can be done! Just go for it.❤

Yes to everything! I am also working on a very large quilt that I started to quilt on my machine but ended up picking out because I hated how it looked and didn't think I could get a big quilt through. I plan to hand quilt mine. I have Gutermann Hand Quilting Thread, John James Quilting Needles, Size 5-10, 20/Pkg, and Frank Edmunds Quilting Hoop but I haven't started yet.

@@Rebecca_Good If you end up giving it a try on the machine, I would recommend machine gloves which help you grip the quilt and prevent it from sliding. In case you haven't heard of them.

I haven’t and will look into them thanks!

Can‘t wait for your next videos! I would love to get inspiration from you for sewing a blazer and pants, a thrift flip and mending as well and learning new techniques. At the end of last winter I have sewn my first coat. It was a bit challenging, but I mastered it and I am very happy with the result. I am also looking forward to your knitting plans 🤍

Suggestion on quilt...tie it...or use something called Big stitch. Big stitch uses perle cotton and visible larger stitches. If you want more traditional hand quilting, there is something called quilting thread. It is heavier than garment thread and twists the other way to reduce tangling. Get good needles, beeswax, and a comfortable thimble.

I buy a lot of my yardage at thrift shops. I’ve found everything from silk (100 percent) and linen to wool and of course various polyesters and rayons/viscous fabrics

Very old way of finishing seams of your first dress. As in for hundreds of years old way, still used in very high end couture sometimes: Press seam/seam allowance, trim thread, and hand overcast seam allowance. Seems like a lot of relaxing hand sewing in your future....

Love the idea of the ozma dupe! I too have been tempted, but me and pleats dont usually get along haha. Also the A Piece Apart pants look divine.

I bet you could make something with a similar silhouette and remove the pleats? I think it would be a fun project to try and make :)

@@Rebecca_Good also, I feel you on interfacing. And! For the quilting I've made one that is big stitch hand quilted which worked well, but mostly I machine stitch mine with my old singer.
@Rebecca_Good4 ай бұрын
Thanks! Someone else mentioned big stitch, I’ll look into it. I think my machine could do it, but I think it would be a nice personal touch to do it by hand too.

Suzy Quilts on YT has an amazing, very thorough hand quilting tutorial that helped me a lot: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5XQn4CemKZpmqssi=2OSeiSN3IVLNHrLF I also love the look of anything hand quilted, but I will say…it takes a LOT more time than machine quilting 😆
