This video is all about how to breakdown a lake to find fall walleye fishing spots. In other videos we show lots of side imaging, sonar and down imaging views of fish on these spots. In this video I talk about how to locate these spots by looking at the map. I talk about two different types of systems. Example one is a deep clear natural lake. Example two is a shallower flowage or reservoir system. Hopefully this video helped you find and catch some fall walleyes. Thanks for watching!

Tom, I’ve discovered your Fantastic videos online but one of them will truly change my fishing! I’ve been fishing Walleye’s all my life. Unfortunately, I’m at kindergarten level with electronics and the gps. Your video on shading changed all that. I have Navionics on my phone and just hadn’t taken the time to play with it. Well, your shading video told me - “I can do that” and if I can, I can hover over every hump on any lake while vertically jigging. After 3 very pushy emails to Navionics asking them for specific instructions on shading, I marked over 60 decent humps on my new home lake near Duluth. Also marked a few deep holes for late fall crappie. My Garmin striker 4 can’t shade but now I can simply dump the coordinates into it. Thank you 😊 Thank you 😊 Thank you 😊 Best regards. Mike Tucci

Tom, you KNOW what you have to do now. You have to GO to that lake, GO to that reservoir and run those waypoints. SHOW us what they look like on side imaging, down imaging and sonar and either fish them or eliminate them from consideration. That is the next piece of the puzzle. You've done the mapping homework, now complete the assignment and actually run those spots with the depthfinder on. Lastly, start catching them. I think that would be an excellent tutorial on the entire fish finding process!!

I've grown to love your channel and appreciate the level of specificity you provide regarding your experiences on the waters in your area. I would love to have something simliar pertaining to the shallower lakes near me. My area has many lakes that do produce walleyes, but are less than 20' deep. Would love to hear how these relatively shallow water lakes compare to those that are 50-60'. if walleyes are in 20-30' in a lake that's 50' deep, will they relate shallower structural elements than the 20' areas where that is the max depth, or are they going to pursue the deepest water possible regardless of structure down to something like 30 or 35'? Thanks again for all the info.

Do you put north side of lakes favourable to south side of lakes? my theory is north sides get warmer water earlier and longer cause the sun is always warming it from sun up to sun down. South sides can have shaded areas in which cool off water.

Hey Tom, Question for you... I am brand new to the fishing electronics game and after watching this video last night I went out to try and find some walleye this morning. My question is how do you find walleye on a lake that does not stay a certain level throughout the year? Bull Shoals in Missouri is know to fluctuate quite a bit. I set my new Garmin to show me the 20 foot contours but when I got to the lake all of those areas are 35 feet deep right now. Any ideas how I can still find the fish??? Thanks Jared

I had the same problem with ChartSelect contour maps. I called Humminbird tech support. On your HELIX, go to the CHART TAB and make sure your MAP SOURCE is AUTO. With your chip in the unit, go to the HB CHART TAB, OVERLAY OPTIONS, MAP OVERLAY, select your lake name, and pick 2D MAP. That should remove the gray shading over the contour map.
@danielbeighley6150
@danielbeighley6150 3 жыл бұрын
Another note on ChartSelect contour maps: they function the same as the LakeMaster chip - you can offset for changing water levels and do the same highlighting. If you only need a couple of lakes, the ChartSelect route is an economical way to go. You can also put download them to a smartphone and do the same things at no extra charge. Uses the phone GPS.
