This movie was good however, Zora played dumb right from the start. I could tell just by the way Franklin carried himself that they wouldnt be a good match. Then, after they slept together Franklin pretty much told Zora , he had nothing to offer. Yet Zora kept trying. I learned anytime a man tells you bad things about himself, take it as a warning and walk away.

I completely understand. After being let go from my role as an HR Generalist and having my unemployment benefits contested by my employer, I worked full-time at McDonald’s in the afternoons and nights while relying on social services to support my child. During the day, I focused on interviewing and being selective about the employers I wanted to work for. That experience is why I find it hard to believe when people claim they can’t find a job-there are always opportunities if you’re committed and persistent. @@blacksosa6916 i agree. I never said it would. But heres what i kno as a child free woman by choice who is the product of a married black couple: The purpose of marry b4 u carry is NOT to secure a " non lazy lover", its NOT to " guarantee" a good coparent. Its giver your child a higher rate of security. Meaning: there are deadbeat absentee fathers in all shapes and sizes-- some deadbeat dads are ex boyfriends, some are ex husbands. But please know that MOST deadbeat dads are ex boyfriends NOT ex husbands... Thats something women of other races understand, but black women cant seem to grasp.. Me and my sister have the same father but different moms. ** My dad was never married to my sisters mom**, BUT he was married to my mom for 16 years. My dad did everything for me-- financially supported me my whole childhood, and even helped me pay for graduate school in my 30s.. He never did anything for my sister, she never saw a penny, he never gave her moral support/ emotional support... Now, i kno youre gonna try to diss my dad to insult me lol, and thats fine bcz my dad is 1000% wrong for abandoning my sister whom i love. But understand, men treat children from marriage completely different than how men treat children from " baby mommas". Men view baby mamas as " damaged goods"-- ive heard several men say that YEARS before the manosphere/red pill existed.. Marriage is just like a seatbelt for ur kids, seatbelts DONT guarantee kids are safe from harm in a car accident but they increase security. And if youre child is injured in a car accident and the injuries could have been prevented by a seatbelt then why would u be critical of seatbelts? You seem critical of my argument about marriage lol. Marriage is for the security of the kids.

It was left up to me to make sure my children and I had a roof over are heads, cloths, food, whatever they need I work to get. Took me 29 yrs of my marriage to finally divorce him, sad part my children ask me why didn’t I divorce him a lot sooner. I learn loving a person doesn’t mean you let them walk over or on you, marriage is a partnership, both you are a team working together not just one of you working on both of your dreams. lady, Ive seen dudes literally tell the lady he was dealing with that he doesnt want a baby because he has no way to take care of it..& someone got pregnant anyway...hmmmmmm....baby trap; it isnt a one way street..in reality, benefits babies are a thing too, esp in the Black American community..

I firmly agree too. I was very very happy to see two actors I really love playing the role…but I don’t think the movie was done to the way the book was. Aspects of Franklin and Zora weren’t easily understood. Franklin’s story/character was more identifiable and compassion lending than the movie which compartmentalized him, didn’t give layers. I’m going to watch this again though.

Books are always way better than the movies because books are more insightful, entertaining and more info than the movies! I'd read the book too before watching the movie at that time.

This is one reason why I never got married or had kids. I like living alone with my pet. I can’t imagine what women go through dealing with men like this. I’m at peace and enjoy my life. No drama and I’m taking care of me! She basically had two sons to raise smh

Fun fact, Laz Alonso was in this movie, I believe it was his first role into the movie game. It was brief but fun go to the beginning when she was moving into her brownstone he was the guy that was unloading her things on the sidewalk with the other movers. She got mad becuz they had to go, Sanaa threatened their jobs and Laz stated “the number is on the f**kin truck lady” or something like that 😂 it’s crazy how when u go revisit movies and u be like wow that was him the whole time after they already became famous.

This is a perfect example of not falling for potential and promises. It doesn’t matter what they say they will do, what are they doing right now? And if nothing changed, would you be ok with the life you have with them right now? If Zora really thought about that, she wouldn’t have had that baby and she wouldn’t have to take care of a grown ass man.

Always make yourself a priority. Look after yourself first before you look after anyone else. Look after your health and everything else first in your personal life before taking a man in your life. Who needs a man like this in their life to drag you down to struggle. When God is in your life the rest will follow because God will protect you and the rest will follow. I don’t want to judge any women because we have all fallen short and made mistakes in the sight of God. Take care of yourselves Ladies and God bless you all

This is what some women do to themselves all the time and then ask for a good man to save the day and fix the mistake🤦🏿♂️. Understand when somebody isn’t right for you from the jump and give the right dude an opportunity you’ll end up with better results because no good man is obligated to want to be with a single mother after the relationship with her baby father falls through good woman or not. it’s hard out here and some women expect the world from the second man instead of the first one they made a baby with and that’s not going to cut it. The second man ain’t about to jump through more hoops than the first one did because he knows his worth and will just find a woman without kids and without the drama of dealing with what it entails to be with a woman that has that mindset.
