May I ask why you prefer oil over water on this particular stone? Also might be helpful for some people to know that there are different kinds of whetstones and on some of them you should absolutely not put oil on, they are only for water. Edit: you asked about the pronunciation, the ä in fällkniven is pronounced like e, so it would be fell-knee-ven with a hard k in the knee. We almost always enunciate every letter in a word.
@DocP91B

You should absolutely never use water on a metallic stone. You will run the risk of rusting and/or corroding the substrate. Eveb if you wipe it clean from the surface it can get into the micro spaces where the two surfaces are joined. I use water on my Japanese water stones and Arkansas whetstones. I use oil on most others because it provides more lubrication longer than water and prevents metal build up in the pores of the stone better.
@bardolph77
@bardolph77 3 жыл бұрын
@@DocP91B Absolutely right, had no idea though that this stone contained metal. This definitely seems like a whetstone that I need and want so hence the question. Now looking at Fällknivens site regarding this stone (I really want one as you notice) they do not recommend using water or oil on the ceramic side while sharpening. They do however tell you to use warm water and dish detergent to clean up any build up. I just want to double check and make sure after destroying a couple of my fathers whetstones when I was about 10 and receiving a right bollocking from him. Funny how some things stick even after almost 40 years.
@AYellowPepper
@AYellowPepper 3 жыл бұрын
@@bardolph77 Most experts will say never use oil on anything but pre oil soaked stones. and to use Water on everything else. I too am of this mindset! Oil will basically destroy any diamond stone and ruin most water stones, and after you used oil once you can never use water on the stone again and thus have to always have oil with you and some sort of solvent to clean yourself and your stuff afterward. Oil has basically been obsolete for the last 20 or so years, ever since High quality Japanese stones became available and their knowledge went around the world. TL:DR Do not use oil on anything. Only use Water. Run Diamond Dry and use a brush/eraser to clean it.

The original M-16 user manual said you didn't need to use any lubrication either. But smarter people said that was dumb, people with real life experience using firearms. What's really interesting is that in the video - at 3:37 - in the video you're commenting on & just watched I said the instructions for the stone say lubrication is not required but I find better results with oil. So your comment tells me one of two two things: you either didn't pay attention to the video you just watched, or you lack the comprehensive powers to understand the video you just watched. Either way, you just posted a comment that states something that was stated in the original video two years ago, and has been addressed multiple times in multiple comments & replies since then. Perhaps you're not the number one candidate to consider using sharp objects in the first place?

You said something dumb. You stated something that not only was addressed IN THE Video, but multiple times in the comments. That tells me and the "loyal" viewers reading that you're more interested in an trying to one up or get a *gotcha'!" moment than actually pay attention to what's going on. Rather than acknowledge the points I made in my response, calling you out like I would anyone else who would comment something dumb without paying attention or looking to see if it's been addressed - or Both - you came back by telling me what I can't and can't do on my own channel. Awesome. You would think a "loyal" viewer would know the game we play here with comments that are are... Less than high speed. If I make a genuine mistake in a video and someone corrects me in a comment I genuinely Tha k them for the learning moment and for the correct information. You can see that all. Over the channel. When someone incorrectly corrects me or anyone else, I let them know they've said something stupid. You could have been a little introspective here and thought about Why you felt the need to post. A comment stated something that was blatantly stated in the video. Something that explained and addressed, in the video you supposedly just watched. the manufacturer of this stone specifically say not to use oil or water and you make a tutorial where you use oil ... that's awkward ... .
@DocP91B
@DocP91B 3 жыл бұрын
No it isn't at all. When the M16 was originally introduced the manufacturer said it didn't need to be cleaned. Try asking some older Vietnam Veterans if that rifle worked better or worse following the manufacturer's advice. The only awkward thing here is you using a tired 90s sitcom cliche phrase because you don't understand WHY I recomended using an oil. What's really awkward is you not knowing the difference between a tutorial and a review.

Introducing untrue or misinformation into a place where some people look for factual information is rude. There is no discussion as to whether or not it is polite to lie to people or spread misinformation from shady internet sources. C) The idea of using the stone wet vs. Dry was actually talked about IN THE VIDEO. it has further been mentioned and/or discussed in several comments post that. That means that the guy wilfully decided to drop an untrue statement (even if he thought it was true) without actually paying attention to what was said in the video, without taking the time to see what was said in the comment stream.
