I used this knife to process a quarter of elk. It did really well.

Some background info on the knife. It's a survival knife made for primarily the Arctic. It was developed for the Swedish Air Force pilots as a survival knife. It's used by many armed forces as the primary knife. The bigger A1 was developed for the Swedish Army and is about the size of your middle sized knife. The rattling is there for a specific reason, it's to save your life in the Arctic, it's there so the knife doesn't freeze stuck in an emergency where you need the knife :) Good to see it can be useful down under as well :)

+Alexander Källberg Thanks for that! Yeah the A1 is on the list. maybe even the new A1 Pro! Those shiny bolsters are really something!

Hey Pete! Really great video here. I love the idea of the convex on this knife, but I love the steel on the Master Hunter in 3V. Which would you recommend if you could only have one? I'd be pairing it with my Gerber Strongarm and my Mora Companion.

Always good to see how a knife holds up after being used. I will add this one to possible buys in the future. Cheers.

+Bob FromBrisbane Highly recommended, Bob. I think you need good Small, Medium, and Large fixed blades for complete coverage of labour. I've settled on my three, which seem to cover everything. - Fallkniven F1, Sog Tsunami, and the Ontario SP5 Bowie.

+CedricAda Gear and Outdoors Hi, are you happy with the Ontario SP5 ? Would you change it for the BK9 ? The BK9 costs around 35% more than the Ontario do you think you are getting a knife which is 30% better ?
@CedricAda
@CedricAda 8 жыл бұрын
Bob FromBrisbane I suspect I should have held out for the BK9. The fine tip of the SP5 isn't really necessary for the heavier tasks, unless you were maybe going to push it into a pig sticking application or something! I think the sturdy drop point and more complete thickness of the BK9 would be the go, and worth the increase in price. I DO prefer the enclosed tang of the S5 over slab handles, however, but I seem to be in the minority there, . I'll do a follow up review in a couple weeks when I get back from a two nighter we've got on the cards. I'm at a stage where I'm reducing the volume of my collection and getting fewer, more expensive blades to use more consistently, so I might end up with a big chopper at some point. But i might skip Becker and go straight to Busse knives, which had somewhat the cream of the crop.

I hate to say it but $20 aliexpress F1 knock off is well built too, the steel is & the sheath doesn't rattle I would be interested to see how it holds up on your cut testing

@Hankhillismrbig
@Hankhillismrbig 3 жыл бұрын
I’d probably say that it depends on whether or not the steel upgrade is worth the extra dough to you. The cheapest of the steel upgrades is around $100 extra. To me, that’s too much for basically just better edge retention. I don’t have the F1, but I do have and use the S1 very often. I like the VG10 very much, and haven’t ever wished it was in a different steel. It’s tough (never had any chips or things like that), holds an edge well and it resharpens very easily. I have CPM-3Vs and other steels of that nature, and don’t particularly prefer them on fixed blades.

I was waiting for this video! lol But yeah, if I had the money, I would totally buy one. But alas, college lol. If you don't mind the long wait, I would recommend one of the kydex guys Preparedmind101 uses, I almost ordered one but didn't have the money or time, but they all seem really good.

Also some more "gear" videos would be cool. Like backpacks or something like that. I've been on a backpack kick lately because I was shopping for a new one. Look at some of the Condor stuff, it won't break the bank like Vanquest or Maxpedition.
@CedricAda
@CedricAda 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, condor is like half the price of maxped and vanquest. I like the colorful stylings of cotopaxi, and the duluth style frost river packs. Ive got reviews on a maxpedition tool pouch, the olight s1 and a couple more long term reviews in the weeks to come :)
@ArikGST

+Cyclone Outdoors You could take a look at the Backpacks from 5/11 tactical. They have some very similiar offerings to Maxpedition but usually at a much lower price, and I have made a great experience with my 5/11 Rush 12.

+German Survivalist (Dante Briefs) thanks! I'm fairly certain I'm getting the condor venture pack, but ill look through 5.11s stuff. i know the rush 72 is well out of my price range, but i need a backpack that can fit my 17" laptop lol. any suggestions there anyone? im looking to spend $70 US or less. college budgets lol.
@CedricAda
@CedricAda 8 жыл бұрын
+German Survivalist (Dante Briefs) Lots of my co-workers have the 5.11 rush. They look like a great bag, despite slight drops in polymer density in the nylon. Which I don't mind, as the maxped 1000 denier can be a little coarse.

Yeah, if you find yourself on longer trips, or travel light and make stuff as you go, a larger knife or an axe would most likely make you feel more capable.

Wonder if the one on Amazon is legitimate. So many fakes and scammers on Amazon. Hard to know you're getting the real deal. Love this knife. Going to buy it when I find a good deal on one I fully believe to be authentic.

For the high price they want for the F1 the handle and sheath are both a huge disappointment as well as reasons why I don't buy it. I like bark river, but their micarta is too slick. Neither will replace my Survive Knives Gso 4 and GSO 3.5
@LXT43
@LXT43 5 жыл бұрын
the F1 is a great knife. high price? I don't think so. It is laminated steel. Costs more to make it. But because it's laminated, it's stronger than regular steel. it's stronger/tougher than 3v that is non-laminated.
