She really nailed those feelings you have of worrying about letting your kids down or not being good enough or being let down by a parent or feeling like you can only rely on yourself. Watching Maid brought me to my knees as I watched my own experience trying to save my child and myself from her abusive alcoholic father. Down to the 4 AM scene of escaping with my sleepy child. The car was our first refuge and the courts were unsympathetic. It still triggers so much horror, fear, and self doubt even though he is now deceased.

Maid is an amazing show which highlights the serious issues surrounding domestic violence and escaping poverty, and Ms. Qualley did an amazing job of bringing all those emotions to life. This interview is wonderful in its own right in that she seems so fun and down-to-earth. One of my favorite moments is her sense of wonder at the difference between getting up from a mattress on the floor to getting up from a bed with a bedframe. One unexplored question here is: Did she not get furniture until recently for the same reasons her father doesn't have furniture?

Oh my gosh this was the best most hilarious interview ever. And btw-Maid just was the best most realistic well done, real life series I’ve ever seen. Seriously, bravo. And she’s light on some majorly important things that no one talks about!

I'm currently watching Maid and discussing it with my daughter. We just watched and discussed the first episode. I hope we can both continue on our healing journey. I hope sharing our talks will help others as well.
