Every frame in that movie was lit with her acting charisma in it, even when the movie got bad reviews, Stanley Tucci got an Oscar nom, Saoirse was snubbed that year. And years later there are people who still forget that she was that girl who acted in that movie. She was 13 year old and she had not read the Alice Sebold book because she was too young and the book was too graphic, without even knowing the horrifying details she gave a fantastic performance. Her LadyBird perf got a lot of limelight last year, even launching her in as a popular actress, so I don't feel the need to talk about it. If you define yourself by a piece of land and the stories people tell you on how you should act and be because it is "culture" then you got probablms. All you gotta be is yourself. I never grew up in one country and nor did my parents, 3 countries and 6 cities so I don't belong to a particular culture. I see how people deny themselves to be who they truly are because it's not in their culture. I knew an Irishman who wanted to give up the drink and talked often about his dreams of being sober, he kept failing and would say "well, it's in my culture" he implied that his fear would be social isolation from his Irish friends by giving up the booze but his fear was right because they would say nasty comments everytime he tried to give up. That there is the bane of Irish culture. I'll take individualism over culturalism any day.
