Tracey was so hilarious during this segment that I come back to watch it again and again every so often. Going on 7 years. One of the funniest late night panels ever. Interestingly, Morgan and Fallon did NOT get along during the SNL days. Tracy always got mad at Jimmy for breaking character and laughing during bits. Tracy never breaks. In any case, this was, and remains, hilarious.

The best thing about his joke about "going back into a coma" is that it was a joke on the Simpsons years back. A man comes out of a coma and asks if Sonny and Cher still have that awful variety show. When he learns that she's an actress and he's a politician, he simply replies: "GOOD-NIGHT" and slips back into a coma. Whether or not Tracy knew of this joke, it shows how great comedy minds think alike. Welcome back, Tracy.

Jimmy's an awful interviewer. He doesn't know how to cut down through all the nonsense and redirect the conversation back to reality. When you have a personality as strong and off the cuff as Tracy Morgan you really need to be either incredibly witty, or assertive like David Letterman. He just sits there and fake laughs throughout the interview, pretends to write notes, and lets the guest go completely off the rails.

Where did I mention anything about scripted fakeness? And I'm not just talking about Tracy Morgan. There's been several guests that have strong personalities and they completely take over the show to the point where they're floundering and Jimmy doesn't know how to react besides nervous laughter. As the host he should know when this is happening and toss in a lifesaver in the form of a change of topic or a question. It's not about being scripted it's about reacting accordingly to the situation. Watch Conan, David, or Jon Stewart handle a guest like Tracy Morgan. They're strong enough in their interviewing capabilities that they can let Tracy be Tracy, but not to the point where no one knows what he's talking about and it becomes awkward to watch.

The best part of interviews is to let guests say what they want, especially if they're comedians. I mean would you really want someone to cut off Tracy, Robin Williams, Jim Carrey or Don Rickles? They entertain for a living, so let them entertain. Nobody wants to see a host stop a guest from making people laugh. With that said, Jimmy usually interrupts his guests, so it's good to see him finally shut up.

+GummyTumor If you watch Jimmy at the beginning of his rant, he is trying to watch where it goes. Then eventually he goes along with Tracy Morgan and lets him continue. The audience and even Quest was cracking up at his every sentence. IT WAS FUNNY. If Jimmy stopped him it wouldve been much more mundane. Conan does the same thing when this happens in his interview. Youre a sad fan pissed off about hearing that Jimmy was doing better than David Letterman, and started attacking Jimmy and praising Letterman because of it.
