delugex Talent and commercial success are not equivalent. Sometimes terrible singers can still sell a lot of records while very good singers might only sing to a niche audience. I mean Christina is a MUCH better singer than Britney Spears, but Britney has sold a lot more records. You don't hear much opera on the radio either, but that doesn't mean the opera singers aren't talented. It just means that most people don't like to listen to opera music while driving around in the car.

Misssophisticated 1 I'm all for defending Christina, she's my favorite coach and I'm a big fan of her music. With that being said, Britney taking that Vegas show was far from the death of her career considering how much they pay her. And yes, it pays to be on TV, $17 million for Christina apparently; but it also pays to be in Vegas, over $60 million for Britney. Two completely different artists, I'll agree Christina is more talented, but having seen both in concert, I'd argue Britney puts on a better show.

Christina does a better Britney than, well, Britney. I never thought they had much in common vocally, except their age. Britney does her thing, but I don't think she can do anything more than that one genre. Xtina, she has the voice, like Steve Perry. That one in a million-on par with Whitney Houston. I like the impressions, but it was lame how they pretended that the songs were "random," and pretended they didn't rehearse this whole thing before the show. You can tell this was a scripted bit from start to finish, like all of the bits they do. That's fine, it's just the pretending to do it "off the cuff" that bothers me. She did nail that Britney impression though.

It's the american way though. At the end of the day its all about making the celebrities look good and relatable. So they have to script the bits and even the comedians are known to write bits to throw into interviews as if it's improv. UK talk shows like the Graham Norton show seem to the only ones that have scripted and not scripted bits and when they do scripted bits, they don't try to pretend it's genuine. It seems to throw American guests off because there isn't a scripted structure to follow.

It's clear that both of them knew which song they were going to be doing, and weren't caught off guard by the impression they were going to be doing. They don't appear to be people who are making it up as they go... I think it's pretty obvious that Christina and Jimmy had time to prepare for this bit with the specific songs they each sang. Why do you think it _isn't_ scripted? is a better question.
