i don’t think they should have tried to tone down the musicalness of it so much. like, changing the arrangements in songs and not including them in a lot of the marketing. i get that they were trying to appeal to a larger audience but i think that they ended up alienating fans of the musical AND exacerbating the annoyance of people who weren’t expecting it to be a musical and/or are precious about the original movie.
