I don't care what anyone else says, this should be used as a masterclass on how to not only make a good video game adaptation but also how to make a good show. One of the best examples in recent times of how to do the mystery box trope correctly. Perhaps Cooper became a ghoul in vault 12.

We knew it was coming (bc TV show) but I really liked seeing the change in Coop's treatment of Lucy at the end of this ep. He went from using her as Gulper bait, constantly taunting her Vault-iness, cruelly pushing her to contaminate herself with surface-dweller attitudes (and water) like him, and selling her to organ harvesters for drugs to finally truly becoming a party member and talking to her like a partner at the end ("Are you coming or what?") as they set off on a quest together instead of him either going solo or basically abducting her like before. Also, I liked the symmetry/full circle moment that happens in that last scene: In the "Ghouls" episode (iirc), Lucy was horrified when Coop shot Roger (the ghoul who was turning feral), not realizing that he was doing Roger a kindness and not just killing him for ass jerky. Although Lucy goes on to shoot the newly feral Martha at the organ harvester place, it's just a last resort in self-defense. In this last episode, though, a much-evolved Lucy makes the *decision* to shoot her mother and put her out of her misery -- finally realizing the kindness in that act -- taking her even further down the path of understanding Coop and becoming a little more like him (in a good way). We kind of always knew they'd affect each other and bring each other a little more towards the middle -- like any good partnership does -- but I'm glad we're there now and I'm looking forward to them truly working together next season instead of always being in opposition.

Look at Maximus' face when Dane holds up his arm and praises him. To me, he looks as though his disillusion about how the Brotherhood truly is rather than how he thought it was, and now his anger and need for revenge for why he was left as a survivor from Shady Sands.
@johnplaysgames31205 ай бұрын
Yeah, I feel like Max has been getting increasingly disillusioned ever since he saw Knight Titus for what he was but, you're right, in that moment with Dane, it really felt like he was finally fully done with his dreams about the Brotherhood. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if the show gets some mileage next season out of the fact that Lucy left him there (despite her reasons being good). I'm interested to see how they'll play it. Will he think she was taken and is in danger and go on a mission to rescue her? Will he feel like she abandoned him, making him feel betrayed and therefore cling MORE to the Brotherhood for a while? Or maybe a combo (he goes to "save" her, only to discover that she left him there... and then he becomes a mini-antagonist for a couple of episodes)? If they go the "Max and Lucy are in opposition for a few episodes" route, I hope they don't spend too long on it. I always hated that in The Walking Dead when, every other season, they'd make Rick go too far down the "you have to be heartless in this world" path and make him a dick to everybody all season (and, the seasons in between, they'd make him too soft and trusting of everyone, but rarely if ever allowed him to land in the middle and just be a likeable main character). Once was okay, but they literally just had him alternate between extreme ends of the spectrum each season, and it got old real quick. Now that trope has become super tiresome to me and I kind of hope Fallout avoids it. I'd rather see Max feel trapped in the Brotherhood and search for a way out (and for Lucy) while still trying to seem loyal so they don't kill him. That's way more interesting to me than a trope-y misunderstanding that makes friends into enemies for a season before they eventually sort it all out (bc main characters).

@johnplaysgames31205 ай бұрын
I've loved all the Fallout games since Fallout 1 and have always cited it as my favorite game franchise, all-time. I def loved New Vegas but -- and I know this isn't the majority opinion -- FO4 is actually my favorite. At one of my previous game jobs (I was a designer with Activision, EA, and several other small studios for 10-ish years), I worked with a guy who would go on to be a producer on the Fallout games and we used to talk a lot about FO3 and New Vegas. I always load my Bethesda games with mods (100+, usually) and I was obsessed with the settlement building mod (the name of which I can't remember) and would constantly talk to him about it, tell him how I wished it was part of the main game, etc. Although he was more of a Skyrim fanboy, he started playing more Fallout and playing with that mod. Anyway, he left our studio to work on Fallout 4 and, when it came out and had the settlement building in it, (1) I knew he was at least partially behind pushing that to be in, and (2) I LOVED it. I know it wasn't everybody's favorite aspect of that game but, man, it just added a whole 'nother level to the gameplay for me. The constant "Your settlement is under attack" messages when I was in the middle of a quest halfway across the map did get a little annoying (and probably could've been avoided by having that message/event not fire if you were in the middle of a critical quest moment elsewhere) but, tbh, was easily solvable by setting up the settlements to be able to defend themselves. After doing that, I could just choose to ignore those messages if I was busy, knowing my people would be fine without my help. Anyway, yeah, I agree that FO3 has great atmosphere and New Vegas has a fun, slightly silly vibe, but I feel like FO4 -- especially the beginning -- is closest to the look and feel of the show. If somebody was looking to dip their toes into a Fallout game for the first time after watching the series, I'd probably suggest playing FO4 just because I think it would feel more immediately familiar, vibe-wise (plus you get Codsworth right outta the gate, and that's a fun connection to the show). But, really, it's hard to go wrong with any of the games. They're all good.

I haven't paused the episode where they learn it was Miss McClane's pip boy the one that opene the vault's door to see if there is a date; but in their little expedition Norm and his cousin realize the Raiders got access after the Vault dwellers of 32 massacred themselves. The timeline will need to be clarified further (just to set dates more accurately), but it seems like this: Shady Sands gets nuked; Miss McLane's pip boy stays in the surface (if Raiders knew how to use it to open the vault door right away, they needed to figure it out first or the device needed some repairs, that's unknown and a part of the story I'd love to see expanded); after that, and two years before the events of the series, the dwellers of Vault 32 discover something about "management" and violently revolt until none stays alive (we still don't know if this was a discovery on its own or it happened as a result of a second blight that spiraled out of control, potentially as a continued experiment in the vault); after Vault 32 falls, Moldaver gets access to the vault (to make some sense why McClane is not suspicious something happened in the vault, it's easy to assume Moldaver impersonated for a while the communications of the vault, just as Norm briefly pretends to be Betty; how long that game lasted, we don't know). Eventually, when Moldaver gets enough confirmation of what's going on and how to get easy access into 33; the wedding scheme starts (McClane, being the selfish individual he is, has had no reason to check how they are in the "still functioning" Vault 32, has no reason to question the recurrence of sick crops in the Vault and, even more so, has no reason to remember who Moldaver is; considering he nuked that problem all those years ago).
@Scyth0r5 ай бұрын
@@DocuzanQuitomos TBH I don't it was an experiment. 32 & 33 were a breeding pool to create a middle-management class, not a typical experiment, they actually don't want to cause problems for them. Either the blight thing was real and caused societal breakdown which also revealed the truth, or somehow the truth came out and they all went nuts with the existential horror of it.

I really don't think Moldaver would bother waiting for two years. If she had, the raider who talked to norm would have known something about what was happening. No, they figured it out on their own somehow, or something went wrong. I suspect we will learn in the next season, but i don't think it had anything to do with Moldaver.

10:00 "Freddie-Boy, you could lose money running a casino." isn't just a subtle and funny little easter egg. It's also kinda sad, if you know the tragic backstory of New Vegas' DLC "Dead Money" and you finally realize who this "Freddie-Boy" really is.

So, what's really awesome is that last scene. That's what's left of Las Vegas, or "New Vegas". Also, each character around the table in the pre-war segment is a character mentioned in the game (except Cooper's Wife). Basically, the mustachio'd guy is Robert House who was incharge of RobCo, a robotics company in the Fallout universe. He also pretty much runs Las Vegas. The heavier guy sat next to him was his competitor, Sinclaire who ran Big Mountain, a research facility in Big Mt, Arizona. He also made a casino named the Sierra Madre. The guy in charge of WestTek isn't named, but the company sure is. They did some real messed up genetic experiments. Each vault they mention is one from the games. The hallucination one is 113 from 3. They pumped a gas into the vents and caused the occupants to go crazy. The competing one is actually a lot, but references a fanfic about Vault 2, where the occupants are all sports stars and literally bred to compete. The story is pretty funny too, like when the raiders try to get the vault but meet a grisly fate. WestTek's "super soldier" program is also where we get Super Mutants from and the Mariposa Military Base from Fallout 1. There's even more messed up vaults than the ones from the show, like Vaults 68 and 69. 68 has 999 men and ONE woman. 69 is the opposite. There was also a vault that had a single occupant and a box of hand puppets.

This show is a brilliant example of flawed greedy corporate thinking. Vault Tec wanted to stop the fighting by getting rid of the factions but then outsources their vaults to other corporations thereby creating new factions. Interesting fact is that Shady Sands was originally founded by vault dwellers from Vault 15 and yet Hank goes and nukes it because he thinks it's a threat to his vaults plans. This is one of the best shows I've seen in ages. Great reaction and commentary, keep them up.

First off, I didn't even make the "Barb" connection until you two pointed it out. Second, there's a great gag with Bud that's kind of subtle but still great: in-setting it's long established that people can in fact have their brains put in "Robobrain" bodies that are either human-sized (albeit clunky) robots or floating Mr. Handy style bodies (like Snip-Snip). But even though Bud set up a pretty effective plan for Vault-Tec to "win capitalism", the company still wouldn't spring for a full body for him and just stuck him on what's basically an RC car. Thirdly, I'm glad you're going to be playing the games but when you get to New Vegas I'd recommend looking up the "Viva New Vegas" modding guide; NV is pretty buggy out of the box, so you'd want to mod it so it's stable and adds in some QOL features.
@johnplaysgames31205 ай бұрын
Agreed about the mods. Every Bethesda game I play, I usually end up with somewhere in the neighborhood of 100-ish mods. Not all of those are critical, obvs, but the QoL stuff is def recommended and, presuming your computer is not a tater, I'd probably suggest some of the graphics mods too just to update the look a little. It's a great game but it's an old game and, y'know, looks it. Better graphics are not make-or-break but they definitely help with immersion if you're playing in 2024. Loved your observation about Bud, btw. I thought it was great that he was all about being one of the people in power post-apocalypse but, in reality, he ended up in a robot body that could be defeated by a mop handle blocking his path and was too small and slow to even stop Norm from slowly walking in to discover the vault's secrets. Bud became the opposite of powerful and that's awesome.

The other channel doesn't have any videos yet. :P The intro cinematic of Fallout 3 isn't the only reference song. Pretty much all of the songs in the show are in the games. When you get access to radio stations in game you can listen to them. Other than Fallout 1&2 the games are only really linked by setting so checking out cinematic between them won't really spoil anything for the other games or the show. Each game is mostly self contained because it takes place in a different part of the country and a different year. Other than groups like Brotherhood of steel who have branches all over the country so show up in all games each game has it's own factions fighting for power. The Brotherhood are tech horders that seek to gain old world tech for their own use. Some branches of the Brotherhood are more accepting and willing to help than others so their role and your interaction with them changes from game to game.

Question would be if it was only Hank who did it. Betty said they buried their mother together, implying it wasn't only Hank. It might have been them 2, or it was an order from higher ups. If shady sands got too attractive then Rose with the kids was just an extra trigger for Hank to push management to wipe out the unwanted new society
@johnplaysgames31205 ай бұрын
@@killerbas40 Especially since Moldaver mentioned that Shady Sands was living the post-vault dream and was actually thriving on the surface. That took me back to Norm's comment in the first episode when he tells Lucy that Betty and the others didn't want to go find Hank because then they wouldn't get to be in charge anymore. If Shady Sands succeeded and this rogue group of former vault-dwellers actually restarted civilization properly (before "Reclamation Day"), then Hank and Management wouldn't get to be in charge anymore.

The city at the end where Lucy' dad was heading is New Vegas, run by Mr.House. He was present at the meeting that Coopers wife was in discussing ideas for the vaults. He actually managed to defend Vegas pretty well from the nuclear strikes by installing defenses before the assault, so Vegas largely survived compared to other cities. The NCR made a huge encampment in New Vegas and the surrounding Mojave.

the final shot is vegas, new vegas, is the setting of the very best fallout game, run by robert house, who made just about every robot design pre-war, who predicted when the end would come and nearly stopped all of the missiles from destroying vegas but ran outof time for a full deflect, and whose actor in the board room meeting looks a LOT LIKE NORM, i am very hopeful that he is related to him, as a somewhat cutthroat genius who is not physically imposing, but incredibly calculating and vicious. I am doing my best to type this without ruining anything from the game or upcoming seasons, i think this is sufficient. Knowing the details of how and why Robert house did what he did is more important than the fact that new vegas stands. PS: In the board room meeting where his wife said drop the bombs, Robert House is the person in front of the sign for "robco" and i cant help but recognize his extremely close look to norm.

Her asking Coop why he killed that ghoul while thinking with one last beautiful memory, and her not shooting him and mercifully putting her mom out her misery. Such great story writing! The boy who peed on the wall, and then she said be grateful you never seen what another boy would do when he's that angry. The last boy she was talking about was Hank McClean when he blew up Shady Sands. I will bet a 6 pack Betty saves Norm. We didn't see Norm close out the computer, did we? That would mean that whatever he was looking at last was on the screen when he walked away from it.

The best part of the episode is how the entire episode storyline affirms the dad's points by playing out his rationale through the Brotherhood in its reactions to Maximus and subsequent attack to wipeout a faction(emphasis made with flags in battle) and seize unlimited energy by force. One may nitpick the way he went about it but in the end it 'us vs them' and that never changes.

"Us vs Them. Us vs Them never changes..." doesn't quite have the same ring, does it? But, yeah, I see what you're saying. Tbh, that ties really well into the Fallout games too bc almost every game has a bunch of factions and they all kind of suck in one way or another. No group in the FO world is just straight-up good, leaving you to just pick the least of all the available evils when choosing a faction. It also goes back to Max's quote from that earlier episode when he and Lucy are standing on the edge of the Shady Sands crater: "Everyone wants to save the world, they just disagree on how."

40:08 : My impression is that the Brotherhood took control of the cold fusion reactor because they overran the observatory. And because Dane believed Maximus had killed Moldaver, he will now be known as the hero who obtained the “ultimate power” for the Brotherhood. This will elevate him even further in the eyes of the Elder Cleric and his decision to create a “New Brotherhood”. However, Maximus is even more disillusioned with the Brotherhood, which is evident after he watched the knight mow down all the innocent, unarmed people outside the observatory from the Vertibird. This puts Maximus into an extremely difficult situation as highlighted by Moldaver’s last words to him. In the end, Maximus, just like Lucy, got exactly what he wanted but not in the way he wanted it.
