This is a great breakdown. I had missed the bit about rolling on difficulty zero tests to generate AP.

i know exactly what you mean! when putting these vids together i would find something i missed when going back to reference something different! the book is well laid out, but there’s so much info. making these videos has actually helped me to understand everything better too!

And do opposed checks against an NPC generate complications? What about an NPC or adversary’s roll of “20”? Does that make a complication for them in favor of the characters?
@ThreeEyedTownie2 жыл бұрын
absolutely! Complications can be rolled on opposed checks by both the player and the NPC! A complication rolled by the NPC would generate some type of mishap for the NPC appropriate to the type of action they were attempting. It could certainly be a complication in favor of the opponent or create a struggling in some other means!

So in a group test, can the other characters use different skills, the same way as with an assist?
@ThreeEyedTownie2 жыл бұрын
In a group test as written in the book is intended for the players to all roll the same skill but using their own attribute and skill scores. Think of it like an action they all have to perform but are doing it together with someone at the lead. So they're all basically doing the same thing just one person is at the lead.

So, do we agree that there is no difference between assisting and group tests ? I mean, rule-based difference ?
@ThreeEyedTownie3 жыл бұрын
i would agree mechanically, yes! they function very similar. i think the difference is going to lie in how your players choose to assist and when your gm chooses to require a skill test. while they do operate very similar, i feel they’re intended for different applications. like assisting is moreso player agency focused with a “hey i’m gonna help my buddy do the thing” where group tests are more oriented towards the gm telling the ᴘᴀʀᴛʏ “well, if y’all are gonna do a thing like that, i’m gonna need a group test to see if you can successfully” as always, it’s at the gm’s discretion as to when and how assisting and group tests are performed 😉

I would guess only one player can assist - if more want to help it's a group test?

How would an opposed stealth check work?
@ThreeEyedTownie3 жыл бұрын
So with an Opposed Sneak test you would have the opposing player roll thier test first. Depending on the particular situation and what manner they are opposing the test may vary the ATT+Skill combination, but some good options are PER+Sneak or PER+Survival if your opposing by just being alert. The opposing players total number of successes becomes the difficulty of the test for the player attempting to sneak. There’s a bit of grey area when it comes to opposing a sneak test. If the above method doesn’t seem to fit your game you could also make some modifications to the mechanics. What’s important is having a valid argument for why a character would have the ability or reason to oppose the sneak test. Are they already on alert or active guard duty? Did something give them reason to be suspicious? Typically i like to reserve opposed tests for when both characters are already aware of each other’s presence and the opposer is actively trying to prevent the other character from taking their action, but you certainly can oppose a sneak test if it makes sense with the situation!

i can definitely see how you’d feel that way. there’s plenty of great homebrew opportunities with this system so you can totally keep what works for you and leave out the rest!

@@ThreeEyedTownie Yeah I think that is something TTRPG players/GM need to understand more. Nothing is set in stone. For your group change or omit whatever you want. If you don't like a how a mechanic works change it or ignore it all together. IT"S YOUR GAME.
