Took me 40 - 50 hours to get to Diamond City, I explored everything around it before I got nagged by a friend to go there.

On my current save, it only took me about 10 hours to get to Diamond City, mainly because I wanted access to the shops. However I have 2 1/2 days logged on this save so far and I've done almost no quests. I got far enough to get the minutemen to Sancuary. I've been too busy building and exploring.

Tip: Bring Dogmeat into your starting Vault, Vault 111, and go the the caged weapon (Cyrolator) and ask Dogmeat if he can fetch any interesting items nearby. He'll rip the Cyrolator out of the cage, thus avoiding the Master-Lock requirement. xD

Remember as soon as you get the Minutemen to Sanctuary, do the quests you get at the sanctuary before venturing out. It's a short quest line about building the settlement and it'll ensure that the place has defense when you're not there, and this is important because you could otherwise easily loose all the stuff you have saved in the workshops.

I have never had anything stolen from a workshop. I agree its better hame play practise to secure every settlement once youve claimed it because attacks will destroy crops, resources and even settlers. I place turrets and/or fences in the vunerable places

10 Things to Know When Starting A New Game 1: for the best/full experience of a game as it was intended, don't look at youtube videos that tells you things you need to know about a game before playing it might be just be, but i'd get bored before even playing a game if I knew what is going to come and how things work. Exploring and discovering stuff through playing is (to me) a major part of an open world game like this.

ChaosXJ if you get intelligence 10 straight away you get +130% more xp gained each time you earn xp (thus more perks,action points, health etc) and faster progression to increase other s.p.e.c.i.a.l skills. You can also go into higher level zones with lots of legendary enemy's that won't destroy you before you get your weapon out.

I always go for lockpicking first. There's so many locked containers in the game. Upgrading the mod perks works, but isn't overly needed early. Local leader and cap collector is also helpful early if you want to add shops to your settlement.

Another good/helpful thing to do is just walk around the map finding various locations but DON'T CLEAR THEM as they could reset in future missions. But if you find various locations in the world then you can fast travel to them almost instantly rather then having to search around for them. Oh and remember to quick save!

Okay so just a little tip from me. As soon as you leave the vault, there's the path that goes down to sanctuary go left instead there's a path and if you go down that path you meet Duke but once you talk to him raiders will attack and Duke does pretty much all the work so it's good early game gear and weapons

Like gameranx said, and this is what I do: Collect EVERYTHING you can. I know it can be heavy at times, and you might have to walk slowly at some points, but it's all worth it in the end. Recycle the stuff that you deem are junk and worthless. All that JUNK you think is worthless can be broken down into its basic components and used to create other stuff you DO want. So, my advice, RECYCLE, RECYCLE, RECYCLE..... EVERYTHING you think you don't need!!!! If it won't recycle, as, for instance, folders, store them in a special place. They might come up with a use for them in an upgrade to the game sometime. Who knows.

Something I found out was that at level 25 you can find a whole suit of X-01 power armor in the mass fusion building at the top. But beware of the assaultron and the sentry bot, and they are harder the higher the level you are

By the way one extra thing. When you exit the vault for the first time, go and meet the dog and run back to the vault. There you will see a cryogun that freezes any opponent inside a special chest with a "Master" level lock. Talk to Dogmeat and tell him to find you loot around. Dogmeat will snatch the gun right off the chest and you will have a really strong gun really early on. :)

I found some lab once and sadly had to leave some microscopes and weapons from the dead behind because not even my power armour could carry that much. Those microscopes had crystals in them! so I am now going for that perk that gives you extra carry space

I'm using a mod on my current save for infinite carry weight, because fuck having to stop every 5 minutes to empty my inventory. You wouldnt beleive the amount of junk I'm carrying around. It gets to the point where the game starts lagging a bit whever I open a shop menu. Thats about the time I finally have to sell a ton of useless stuff. No one needs 35 pipe pistols, or 23 raider chest peices. Not to mention the 200 or so waters and stimpacks.

Building is my favorite part of Fallout 4. Sanctuary and Spectacle are my biggest and most well defended Settlements, and I have a Safe House on Spectacle that I've redesigned a few times, and a walled in Safe House at Boston Airport Ruins, which is where I house all my Power Armor.

My first game save i didnt know i could upgrade the perk below the special ones where you assaign points at the start i thought they automatically did it or you had to wait until you fully upgrade them before going down the chart so i went to nuka-world when i got the broadcast and well i thought it was going to get on the train and meet some people discover the place so i can fast travel back when im ready so i went light took my combat rifle my laser musket and the armor i was already wearing so i get through the whole thing to where i have the boss fight and because i literally never saved it i only quicksaved i had to go all the way back to when i first discovered diamond city because i couldnt complete the first boss fight of nuka-world i just got back to level 22 last night i got mad and havent played for the past 8 months

one thing that should be prioritised over missions is getting ballistics weave from the railroad but doing they're quests. its boosts ur armour so much

Also a tip for players i would give is find as much aluminum as possible because it takes alot if u want to make ur power armor beast like a tip to get this material is go to hospital locations and take surgical trays and tV dinner trays each ray can be used for 3 or 2 aluminum so make sure u stock on that

I highly recommend maxing out Intelligence when creating your character at the beginning. It gives more XP allowing you to level up faster.

Salom902 It would be hard to store your shit in different settlements then forget where you put it. I keep all of my weapons, armor, and valuables at the Red Rock Truck Stop, along with the junk I find to mod my weapons and armor. The only settlement I actually baby is Sanctuary Hills. As long as the other ones have a good happiness meter I don't care for them until they get attacked then I go and help them.

Also another great idea is to store your junk in the workshop, the little red thing they tell you to use when building settlements, you'll still be able to use it when building, and it takes all that extra weight off of your person.

one fun bonus about bobbleheads as well, if you already have 10 points in the special stat that the bobblehead improves upon, unlike in old games with which the bobblehead did nothing if the stat were maxxed, in fallout four the bobblehead will raise that stat up to 11 permanently.

+Heather's Dream Did you send him back to Sanctuary when you took another follower by any chance? If you send him to a "Home" location. He goes and sits inside a dog Kennel. Sanctuary has 3 maybe 4? Pre built dog kennels and he will pick one and go sit in it. I forget exactly where they are but they're mostly in the back gardens of the houses. Scout around and demolish all but 1. Then relocate that one to wherever you want. Dogmeat will now go to that specific location and you'll find him there.

When you get the side quest The Silver Shroud, do not put it off. Not only do you look real sleek in the shroud clothes, it actually boosts up in protection in several ways. Also maxing out with the big league perk is...well...totally awesome.
