you would think that choosing to completely throw any concept of realism or basic engineering out the window (not a decision I really agree with, but not inherently "wrong" in a fictional game after all) would free them up to do something creative and interesting. instead we got... _that thing_. it makes no sense _and_ it's utterly hideous. I'm not a huge fan of Borderlands or Destiny for a lengthy list of reasons, but while they don't worry about grounding their weapon designs in realism, at least some of the designs manage to be fun or memorable.

I know this is an older video but I just feel it's worth bringing up that literally the first town you ever seen in the Fallout series is a small, walled, farming community made up of modest, but comfortable, adobe buildings. Not, you know, trash cans stacked on top of one another.
@JRexRegis
@JRexRegis 9 ай бұрын
And even trash cans could have some charm if the town didn't look like it had nobody capable of using a broom to sweep away the 200 year old trash. Like, I'd take a city made from a toppled over cargo ship with the containers repurposed as housing, which ACTUALLY looks like people live and work there, over any of the "wacky" settlements in Bethesda's fallout. I'd organize it like a set of piled-up stacks - the bottom-most layer serves as support, as the tide means anything down there gets flooded, but the higher a container lies, the richer the occupant becomes. The freighter itself serves as a seawall. Each stack of containers has a set of gardens on top, which grow various foods. Some have moss and vines snaking their way down, growing stuff like mutated grapes the size of apples or tomatoes. Different levels of the city are connected with rope bridges, and a major struggle for the city is its food supply - the stacks don't produce enough food for their inhabitants, meaning they have to import, which is expensive. A major quest in the city could be finding and reporting the location of mirrors or other reflective surfaces, so they can install them on the deck of the freighter and shine extra light onto their crop fields, boosting their yield.

"Don't go off about the Mirelurk's hard shell." You know what one downside to having great natural armor? Explosions and concussions transfer energy. So a bomb going off on your armor, even if doesn't puncture the armor, could transfer enough kinetic energy through you to injure you very badly, if not kill you. Watched through the entirety of this, and the "Fallout 3 isn't better than you think" one. I started out as a more casual fan of Fallout, coming from Bethesda's previous games, more specifically Oblivion. Here's the order I played these games: Oblivion > Fallout 3 > Skyrim > Fallout 4 > Morrowind > New Vegas > Fallout and Fallout 2 > TES Arena and Daggerfall. And that was the eye opener for me tbh. Not only did I find out Bethesda can do better (MW, A, and DF), but also discovered just how good the original Fallout games + New Vegas were. Suddenly it just clicked with me, the later games for both TES and Fallout feel shallow. I get the criticism that more dedicated fans aimed towards Bethesda Fallout games after that. I still like FO4, F03, Oblivion, Skyrim etc, but they're just that, occasionally fun games, mindless dungeon crawling and shooty shooty/hacky slashy. It's fun too, just exploring stuff at your own pace. But damn did FNV, Fallout 1 and 2, and Morrowind provide good stories, great dialogue, much better world building etc.

I'm mildly disappointed that the fact that initial Minuteman "help settler with their trouble" quest is actually Radiant wasn't covered. Although in a typical Bethesda fashion it was implemented retradedly. Everyone i talked to about it (which is now more than a dozen people) assumes that "clear out Corvega plant" is the main quest, manually designed and planted in that spot. When in fact it is not, it is semi-radiant, it has 5-6 locations it can send you to clear out, but they're not selected at random, they're selected in order they're listed: If Corvega plant is [Cleared] out, it will send you to "Walden Pond". If both of these are [Cleared], it will send you "BADFTL Regional Office" instead. If that one is also [Cleared], it will instead send you to "Federal Ration Stockpile". If this one is [Cleared] as well, it will send you to forking "Dunwich Borers", how's that for introductory settlement assistance quest, eh? If you'd clear everything including the Borers, even though it doesn't get [cleared] status because it's technically not an inside cell, it chooses "Revere Beach Station". If you [Cleared] that one too, the list ends and it essentially autocompletes without sending you anywhere. Instead of giving you a new randomized location, it skips that part and lets you in "I already dealt with those raiders" sorts of manner. P.S. mentioning it here, since the remaining parts are said to be DLC-exclusive.

From work experience, you are never supposed to back up a 40 ft. bus Medford hospital doesn't do emergency care. Where the ambulances would pull through, there are no doors. The Taffington drainage reservoir(because that's what it is) is too small for boats. Why are the boats rowboats and not powered boats?

This game's narrative fueling a looter shooter base building gameplay loop is just absurd and insensitive. "Let's make a game about a desperate, grieving parent who gets manipulated into endless back breaking labor and suicide missions in the hopes they'll reunite with their baby who might not even be alive." I can't imagine someone with this amount of tolerance, let alone being able to operate under the mental tax of losing almost everything, and not flipping out completely after being tasked to save another helpless settlement.

Paraphrased: "You say a trader from Quincy (snip) you say you have enough supplies to keep the general store stocked for a month." Several problems with this one, some of which are only directly related to the lie itself: 1. A prosperous city with enough money to pay people to be guards (rather than relying on a militia) would not only KNOW of such influential traders (they would communicate regularly), but would also probably pay into a system to protect them (possibly even sending soldiers to do so). Basically, the guard at the gate would say, "oh, okay, can you have John step up to the microphone?" (And when John doesn't speak into the microphone, the lie is blown) 2. Everyone would know about Quincy. Even if a small town with a population of less than five hundred was wiped out, almost everyone in the country would know about it within the month even if one of the survivors had to walk to the next town to tell someone about it. 3. Piper would know how to make a better lie. She'd point out that this trader has (rare good that Diamond City has a hard time getting) rather than focusing on how long the good keeps the general store stocked (since I presume the General Store would also sell for local craftsmen and producers, so it wouldn't run out of stock just because a trader (who was not expected to show up) didn't show up). 4. If the Mayor hates Piper enough to exile her, he would have paid a guard to shoot her or something. Sure, public relations hit or whatever, but I have to imagine half the people in the town would get over it quickly enough. 5. I'm not really sure how the Mayor of Diamond City has the right to bar its own citizens from entry without a trial. It'd be more interesting if he tried to have her home condemned or to spike her ink supply so it would be ruined.

Regarding the power cores: yes! When I first played this game and removed a power core, I thought "man, I'm not sure I should be taking this, it could screw things up in this area." But no. I quickly learned they don't actually do anything. Just take them and move on. It's very strange from the perspective of this world they created. It's all these little things that add up to it not feeling like any kind of coherent world. Obviously it's a game, but generally in this sort of game, there's a lot of work that goes into it making you feel like you're not just playing a game, but this game fails in so many ways, and it can only be enjoyed on a level of you're just playing a game on its own terms. There's no losing yourself in its world or its story.

That would've been a pretty cool mechanic. Especially if that's the only way to get usable power armor frames. Take away an area's fusion core to get more access to powerful end game armor. At the cost of making that area permanently more dangerous and harder to navigate. Or use one of the few finite fusion cores that I've found in the entire game to make an area permanently easier. At the cost of locking myself out from potentially more valuable areas that need a fusion core to access and reduce access to more power armor frames.

@spaceboy.digital Yeah. The fusion core acts like a "key" to power up the suit. Still, though. I'd like it if PA has some restrictions that you can incrementally remove by taking certain perks. Say, bringing back Power Armor Training and giving it 3 tiers. Also. No arbitrary level requirements. You can get all three subsequently when you level up 3 times as long as you have at least Intelligence 4 and above.

I've got to play Fallout 1 and 2 after watching your complete series on 4. I don't even hear the hate you have for 4, but the devotion and love you have for 1 and 2. They must be amazing games. Fallout 4 has driven me nuts, because it is every bit of what you've so passionately described. It's everywhere and nowhere... a wasteland of bad writing brought to us by writers too lazy and uninterested to sniff out the most minuscule of contradictions within their own developed version of the game. I've often complained that the writing is not only incredibly cynical, but also sadistic in it's basic view of humanity. The writing is a soulless production quota...a heartless deadline. For instance, one of my first goals right outta the vault is to get the killshot perk, because the game requires so much shooting. So, I do what I call "the mad dash to Macready" straight out of Vault 111. Macready's quest is "The Long Road Ahead" in which you have to travel with Macready for a pretty long time and work to earn his affinity to the point that you finally learn he's been forced to leave his deathly sick son (who's mother's already passed) to find a cure. You get the cure, and then it all falls absolutely flat. You don't get the heartwarming reward of seeing the cure work on the child. You don't get to invite the child to come live at one of your settlements, and Macready does not go back to the child even if you change companions without prompting any romance. Nope. Instead, you get the guilt of him being stuck farming at one of your 30 settlements, never having been updated on his child or able to see his child... basically leaving the child orphaned as he, himself, had been in Little Lamplight. Even his "wooden toy soldier" ends up in your junk inventory and can be scrapped as "ceramic" (WTF?). This while the overarching premise of your character in the game is that of a parent in desperate search of your own child. So, as a parent, you basically help another parent orphan his child IF his child survives at all. There's such a dismissive brutality in that flat writing that just uses companions, you've had to work to build friendship and loyalty with, for perks. I hate that! If I had true free reign of my character... we would be checking on that child and/or inviting him to live in one of my settlements with medical facilities. But thanks, Bethesda, for not such option given! 😑 Same issue with Piper, by the way. How great that she can be farming on one of your settlements while her kid sister is stuck in Diamond City! There's really no end to the screw-ups. As you've noted, they've even guaranteed settlement building, which could be such a hopeful and rewarding thing, is a soulless pain in the..@....s..s. You get to be the ever-unrecognized "you look like trouble" dictator whether you want to be or not. No-one is empowered to do anything but whine. This while a variety of limitations and shanty building materials make the effort as miserable and unrewarding as it can possibly be. I'm convinced whoever designed Coastal Cottage, Tenpines Bluff, and the like is a straight-up sadist. I can see the developer smiling in the development process of making the place as miserable as possible to try and build anything half decent upon. Why? WHY can't I delete the junkpiled couch at Coastal Cottage?! Bunker Hill is the bain of my existence. I hate that settlement. When you think about it, it should be one of the richest settlements (as even Bethesda acknowledges in the volume of the workbench stored bottlecaps). But instead of it being one of the most luxurious, based on it's wealth, it's one of the tackiest with the bonus of giving you little to do with it. You can delete nary a shanty, and oh no you can't possibly go past the wall to scrap all the junked automobiles that surround the place. Nah. Just scrap your wasteland scavanged soup ladels to build a potted plant, peasant! A complaint you've mentioned is what I have with Bunker Hill. Why wouldn't they live in the perfectly good brick buildings that surround the place and serve as their own wall leaving the area around the monument for critical growing crops?! Around every corner and in every nook and cranny of this game is a failure to suspend disbelief. Connie Abernathy is in a long list of annoying NPC's. "You'll always be welcome here. We won't forget what you've done" and two minutes later... "We don't want strangers around here. If you're looking for work check with the Warwicks." The "WTF's" are endless up to and including the overall snobbery concerning junk that makes ZERO sense when everyone's eating 200 year old processed food, wearing 200 year old clothes, and using 200 year old coffee pots. I know the person that wrote these dialogues thought them incredibly sharp witted and hilarious when they're obnoxiously stupid and stubbornly ignorant of the game's reality. It's bad case of a dumb...@..$$ trying to be a smart...@...$$. Macready: "They invented vacuums for a reason, you know!". Yeah. And who in 200 years has used a vaccum? Most of the filthy settlers haven't even figured out how to use the copious bars of soap and laundry detergent I find everywhere. Where can I get a vaccum to so much as scrap? The joke falls flat, but that never makes it stop. So, it just becomes brutally annoying. Myrna's snobbery over selling junk makes no sense when there's ONLY junk! There's only been junk for 200 years! Again, these characters are written as if they all lived 200 years ago and before the bombs fell. Their humor, their snobbery, their cultural references, and jokes are all written with the mindset of having lived before the bombs fell. Macready: "It's quiet. Too quiet. Haha! I always wanted to say that!" Why? Why did you always want to say that cultural comedic reference of 200 years ago that implies you've watched a film you haven't watched? I mean you have dedicated HOURS to brillantly breaking down the copious amount of problems and there's still more problems to be ranted about! I can't with this game. The writing is just THAT bad.

I have to disagree. Their new games barely have anything to do. There's hardly any width to Starfield. I'd say morrowind, aside from a few standout questlines, is wide as an ocean and deep as a puddle. Most of what you do in Morrowind is kill people and loot items, with the difference being the bare minimum of storytelling skirting that premise. Arena and Daggerfall were both extremely simplistic games riding on a gimmick with handful of quests between them both. Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 are almost entirely similar, with Skyrim being an abomination-update on Gamebryo, crashing constantly and it's even unable to have an athletics skill due to engine limitations that results in a consistent crash beyond basic sprinting speed. The truth is that Bethesda always sucked. Morrowind is an outlier, and only barely an outlier at that. Most (95% is not exaggeration) games have terrible storytelling and Morrowind is considered great by gamers because their usual meal is slop. Morrowind's bare minimum storytelling is enough to impress a gamer. Morrowind has a few interesting world premises, about 5 interesting quest lines, a handful of interesting characters, and some damn spirit about it. Everything else is forgettable filler. The gameplay is fun for about 15 hours however, which is about how long it takes to get to the point where you kill pretty much anyone instantly.

The left-handed mirrored guns have been a huge problem with video games since the early 2000s shooters. Graphics and effects in games made a big leap back then. they thought it looked cool and showed off the advanced graphics to see casings and partials flying in front of the camera. Also they were able to take real world high resolution photos and scan them on to 3d models and it was often easier than hand crafting the texture and made the detail a little better than they could by hand at the time. However they also got a bit lazy with this and used pictures that are mirrored or didn't flip the image becasue 1 they have no idea about guns and never held one in thier life they don't know how it works or looks in reality. 2 it's easier to just scan the same picture on both sides of the 3d model. BLACK, Far cry 2, and Counter Strike, just to name a few examples. it's mostly gone now but it shows how incompetent Bethesda is becasue they are repeating a mistake 10 years after everyone in the industry learnd it looked dumb.

The problem with everything looking broken the way it does in Fallout 4 is that it repeats. So you can end up with a row of walls with broken windows and holes repeating in the exact same place. In GDC 2012, Tim Cain talked about how, during the creation of the first game, all he'd listen to was ambient music. The vibe he wanted for Fallout 1 was "not something you'd listen to but something you heard". He'd pick the songs he liked, and gave it to the audio director being like 'that's the vibe', and I guess that's how it came to be? I figured I'd mention it, because I think it really highlights what the kind of musical intent was, compared to what it is today.

The cyborg Sean considers one step away from being a slave synth due to the mods. (This is one of a few reasons why nobody else in the institute gets modified. Being pure human defines them as different than synths which are cybernetic beings. ) So he starts looking for options. A wild card he tries is releasing his parent from cryo and watches them using the institute crow spy network. (Pretty well proven to be true. ) decides maybe this person who wants to rescue him might be a way of removing kellog and wouldn't ya know, that gamble worked out. Then surprise surprise, this person manages to reverse engineer a way into the instate after hunting and slaying a courser. They are driven, deadly, ruthless and cunning. One of the only figures that can keep the institute whole. So father works to make this person transpose their parental feelings onto the institute through their desire to care for their child (and therefore care for what is meaningful to him.) When every pellet hits at close range and fucking overkills the soldier by turning them into a cloud of red mist gore, even normal shots send most soldiers stumbling, the sound, all of it is amazing. And they STILL have random crap where the sights don't work properly (crouching, stationary, and single fire/semi auto first shot, and bullet does not go where sights are looking), VATS/cinematics (that should be off by default but aren't) can cause you to freeze and let someone kick your ass, and more. Oh, and obligatory: They repeated the mistake from Oblivion where enemies would just be uber tanky, which in a game with ammo really sucks.

To be honest, I already don't expect combat in RPGs to be as good or as refined as it is in FPS games. Since RPGs tend to have more features than FPSs, the developers have to compromise and decide where the budget and dev. time will go, if they focus on one feature (combat, lets say) the others may not have the same attention (branching quest paths or enemy AI), which is not a situation a more streamlined game would have. Lets take Half Life and System shock 2 as examples: The shooting in SS2 is pretty stiff compared to HL, that's bc the devs had other mechanics to worry about than just the shooting, like the RPG elements. The problem with Fallout 4 is that it has way less features than the RPG it claims to be, meaning the game is more streamlined, meaning it has less stuff competing for dev. time and resources, meaning Bethesda had less stuff to worry about, and more time to work on the combat. What happened? Where did those resources go to?
@DJWeapon8
@DJWeapon8 Жыл бұрын
Exactly. By and large, I have no game design issues with the combat in New Vegas. Because its not strictly a combat game. Its an RPG with multiple choices and consequences in how you complete it. Combat is only one of the choices. The weapons and armor are there as worldbuilding first, gameplay second. Its to add character and lore to the setting. But Fallout 4's gameplay is practically *only combat.* And with how its balanced: Damage increasing perks having arbitrarily high level restrictions + Enemy damage and HP scaling up with your level regardless + enemy AI being dumb as rocks + practically having only 2 varieties of enemies (melee and ranged) + 90% of the game being nothing but combat = Mediocre at best, infuriatingly bullet spongy at worst.

Veronica Samonella was the perfect character to humanize the Brotherhood Of Steel AND dehumanize and deconstruct it. Good people like her cannot do good in her Brotherhood or change it for the better, because organizations are more than their individual members. Even one good BOS boss cannot change it for the better with the Circle Of Steel and other BOS chapters around. ONE companion in FNV has better writing than ALL of Fallout 4. People only meme about loving Valentine because "silly looking man sound funny" or "ermagerd robots maaaaan". Valentine lovers are like Harry Potter fans, they never read another book and should. Maybe someone already said this, but an interesting idea for humans, or humanoid enemies is to make their level a determining factor for their A.I. For example, the lowest level raider, who is less experienced, may be more arrogant and cocky making them use cover less and rush at you willy nilly, or they're nervous and afraid making them miss more and less likely to back up their allies, or just run away eventually. As their level increases the smarter, and more ruthless they become. Flanking around to flush you out of cover, staying far away from you to utilize their long range weapon more efficiently, using explosives at the right time to hit you and your allies at the same time, having different types of weapons on them like ballistic and energy to interchange depending on the equipment your wearing, possibly hide or play dead to give you a false sense of security, then ambush you when you get close, etc. All these tactics will be better executed and utilized the higher the level these enemies are. We could even have a system where the highest level enemy of the group will be looked up to for leadership in some situations depending on their experience. They can come up with strategies to fight you in the middle of combat that is on a scale from Rookie to Officer level strategy depending on their level as well, giving you a goal to kill that leader quickly to destroy the enemies morale and/or their organization, giving you a better chance to win.

It should be like the clone wars. Mass numbers. They don't need to be accurate, they don't need self preservation instincts. Have them approach and engage any threat to their operations as a cold machine should. Coursers on the other hand... have em as strong as the strongest BOS AI. This is all beyond bugthesda, of course.

The moment when I realised Fallout 4 worldbuilding was complete and utter shite, was when I arrived at a small family settlement on the small peninsula connecting to Fort Strong, they are between two hostile groups, a group of raiders who would kill them on sight, and a Supermutant stronghold literally on the only path to and from it. They should be long dead. There was no thought or structure to where things are. Like an interesting world would have the mutant be generally friendly, and the family acts as a barrier to entry, helping the mutant with trade and stop people from doing something stupid like wander into their home without notification, or attacking the fort by themselves, in exchange for their protection. It could cause you to get into conflict with the BoS, or you could settle it diplomatically and have the mutants provide the nukes for the BoS, or have them ally with and/or become Minutemen. Maybe their tame ways could influence Strong in some way, having him learn about "human kindness" or something.

As someone who frequently says 'the shooting is good' about Fallout 4 - I usually list out these things when friends ask me if Fallout 4 is worth playing. (Or I did, back when Fallout 4 was more relevant and actually came up in conversation.) - Shooting is better than previous games - Looting junk items to get components is good (if you're like me and compulsively pick things up, it's a nice 'surprise' to get back to base and have gained something out of it) - Plants existing in the world is good - Building a base is fun, which is good - Your companions have personalities, which is good And yeah, you can read that as 'these are the reasons it's good'. But what I actually mean by this is that these are the _only_ good things. The fact I can run around the map and shoot things and have a basically okay time (so long as I avoid interacting with any NPCs with quests at all, ever) is not exactly a ringing endorsement. It's a better 'video game' than Fallout 3. It's not a better rpg, or a better storytelling vehicle, or pretty much anything else (which is hilarious, considering, y'know... all of Fallout 3). It gets even more hilarious if you compare it to New Vegas, because New Vegas doesn't have any of those points (apart from the companion one, which it knocks out of the fucking park) but it's _still_ a much better game than Fallout 4. Shooting in New Vegas feels better despite being objectively worse because it _means_ something. The world feels more real, which helps _immensely_ with making even tiny actions you take in it more meaningful. Shallow and Disappointing, indeed. It makes me think of a similar problem that happened between Oblivion and Skyrim. Bethesda 'fixed' the NPCs in Skyrim. However, what they 'fixed' was only one problem of many with Oblivion's NPCs - now NPCs are more functional, but only in the sense that less hilarious problems happen. So, it's the same experience, but more dull. They fixed the charm of Oblivion. They fixed the fun.

Synth armor is the ugliest? What? You don't dream of being a soup can??
@hugehappygrin
@hugehappygrin Жыл бұрын
The armor, as defined in game is complete nonsense. Leather - no one except the player makes leather armor. Armor? no. Village People cop costume without the hat(a close approximation is the postal hat). Somehow protects against energy weapons. How? Magic. Iron/Steel aka metal. It's iron. It's too thick to be worn, it would weigh more than half your own body weight. A lot of low velocity ballistic and melee protection, but none of your vitals are covered. This applies to all of the remaining armor types. Combat Armor - looks like it ought to be ballistic weave, but it's not, it's just fiberglass/plastic just like the synth "armor". Without mods, your CA looks like poorly painted white plastic. They couldn't make them from OD green material? Power Armor - seriously? The PA pieces are, individually, supposed to make you immune to everything including a mininuke. It's totally BS that small arms fire can not only damage your PA but can also destroy an individual piece. A cool thing with the lied-about game mechanic is that you ought to be able to get into the walking tank(MechWarrior 3 called them environmentals, just a metal suit.) run around aggroing all of the raiders into a group around you and set off a grenade, killing them all without your PA ever getting damaged. But no. Your PA is made of cosplay paper and glue, even though you repair it with aluminum. A iron suit repaired with aluminum.. um .. no. That's asking for self-inflicted trouble. Thermite. Your otherwise inert fusion core will then become a fission bomb, even though fusion doesn't use fissile materials, and thus no "cool" explosion(which kills you. just another stupid design commandeered by Vault Tek.) The other stupid design? When a robot takes fatal damage it explodes, damaging or destroying everything near them, including allies.

Hey Critosis, I just wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude for the tremendous effort you've poured into this series, and I eagerly await the upcoming DLC parts. It's truly incredible! ❤ Forgive me if this turns out to be a bit long, but I wanted to share my personal experience and how your videos tie into my journey with Fallout. In a nutshell, I've been playing Fallout 4 for about a year. I was never acquainted with the franchise's lore or its storytelling. Nonetheless, I managed to complete ALMOST the entire main storyline in one of my playthroughs (my laptop gave out near the end). I promised myself I'd return to finish it properly. Now, I realize I might have been... misled? Deceived? Not treated with the respect a player should expect? These are strong words, but I'm genuinely thankful that you've opened my eyes to stop being overly enamored with a game (which undeniably has its own magic) when, in reality, I shouldn't have been, considering the rather questionable decisions - let's say, "foreheadness" - of the creators, whom, unintentionally, I might have given too much credit to simply because it was fun. At the end of the day, it reveals itself as a clumsily constructed, poorly thought-out, and misleading piece of... Fun. I'm grateful that your content has given me a reason to break free from this somewhat foolish obsession that seemed endless until your incredible content emerged. Once again, thank you! 🙏 By the way, you've inspired me to look up the meaning of "OBNOXIOUS." I'm surprised there isn't a definition in the English dictionary that simply says, "made by Bethesda." 🧐 I apologize if my English appears clumsy here and there. Greetings from Poland! 🇵🇱 Oh, I almost forgot to mention what resonated with me the most... ❗ Truth be told, as I was progressing through the main story, I often had this nagging feeling that something was off with the plot... 🤔 I hadn't watched any reviews or content like yours, and I never stopped to think that maybe it was my own shortcomings, that I was simply not smart enough to make sense of the story in a game that's advertised as an FFS-RPG!! Turns out, that feeling was right all along. When you succinctly summarized the absurdity of the main story plot, if I recall correctly, in part 1, I was both amused by your content creation skills and genuinely sorry for Fallout 4 to be completely obliterated from its existence, a pitiful sight, really, as I actually have a lot of fond memories of the time I spent enjoying the game. And you tore it to shreds. A strange feeling, indeed. Once again, much appreciated, mate! 👍

More on tanky enemies: The fact that 90% of the combat skills are 'do x% more damage with blank', it feels more like the perks are a tax to be able to play the game (without modding so sneak attacks and headshots literally turn someone inside out) without wanting to unalive. There have always been unexciting perks, but the sheer number they had to cram into this game to replace the existence of skills means a lot of them are uninspired (unless you are in an overhaul mod where they get changed).

I got emotional when I heard the Morrowind music at the end. It's my favorite game, which is why I am so disappointed in every Bethesda game that has come after it. The dumbing down, the loss of what I consider to be basic RPG elements, and the completely stupid writing have made all of the succeeding games disappointing. While I have spent 1,000 hours playing Skyrim and Fallout 4 and have enjoyed them, I enjoyed them as tactical first person shooters and exploration adventure games, not as RPGs, while trying to ignore the stupid bits. And it makes me sad when I think about what Fallout 4 could have been. After the debacle that was Starfield, I have no hope for either Elder Scrolls 6 or Fallout 5. I am now looking to other companies' products to scratch that open world first person exploration RPG itch. Thank you for all the work you did in creating all of this analysis. It's very interesting and informative and I look forward to any more that you do in future.

I agree on everything. Some might see this as whiny, I see it as all my suspicious feelings of fallout 4 confirmed.

3:20:05 even in the original games, enemies would at least run away when they took enough damage, as far as I know, without specific perks, most enemies won't back down at all in Fallout 4

Remember folks, these guys are the most petty fuckers around, they set an 85 on mettacritc for new vegas to let obsidian, the people who made all the good fallout games, forced them to do this within around 6 months on their shitty engine they used to make fallout 3, never/rarely advertise it, then said you were 1 point off, fuck off you can't make anymore fallout games on purpose so if they ever get flack they can use new vegas as a shield, and if they ever do good, they use new vegas as a reminder they make good games, they used new vegas to trick the fans of 1 and 2 to cope through the franchise and it's deep dive into the endless abyss of shit and refused to change/update the engine for 76, a game 12 years later running on the same engine with next to 0 updates for an always online MMO RPG

AMAZING video dude! I originally watched the 2 parter a year ago and just watched the remake for 1 2 and now 3 and i want to say you broke this down in a very understandable and straight forward way i love your sense of humor and points of argument I cant wait for the DLC cover and future game break downs

It's funny. Asking Bethesda to meet the standards of Rimworld is an absolute impossibility.

Starfield is the ultimate counter to the praise of F4's gunplay, they took what little F4' had going for it and made it objectively worse in every way they could imagine. I'd go so far as to say starfield has the worse gun design/gameplay in any AAA game ever made.

I really liked that when providing examples in part 16 about the music, you used long enough clips that we can actually get a good understanding of what you were trying to say. Every reviewer I’ve ever watched has like 8 second clips when talking about tracks in games. Great work 👍🏿

I would love to have seen what Tim Cain would have do with this series if he wasn’t bought out by Bethesda. I’m sure the show is going to absolute trash too.

He wasn't, though. Bethesda had no interest in getting feedback nor collaborating with him, Chris Avellone even, and they did their own misunderstood version of Fallout.

The crazy thing about the ejected cases is that over half or most of them are flying to the left when the ejection port is on the right

Ironically, pipe guns sucking would be okay if durability existed and repairing was hard. I wouldn't want to waste my 10mm that I might not be able to learn to replace until I was an expert craftsman if I could get a pipe gun that I could shoot until it comes apart.

If pipe guns were only low capacity, slow to fire and reload, and relegated to early game as a tool for worldbuilding and verisimilitude (in that of course people with fewer means in a harsh environment would try to create improvised firearms to increase their chances of survival. Being single shot slamfires at its worst to a 6 shot revolver at its best), then I'd be perfectly happy with their inclusion. But Bethesda didn't do that. Instead, Fallout 4's pipe weapons are somehow capable of sustained fully automatic fire and are seen well into the end-game. Being more prominent than properly made guns despite the current worldbuilding and lore showing that there are places and factions where the quantity manufacture of relatively good quality proper firearms is possible.

@@DJWeapon8 Isn't it weird? Bethesda chose style over substance because it was cooler to them.

@@TheBreakingBennyI realized that when I played Fallout 3 after completing New Vegas four times. Specifically the sheer amount of raider and super mutant combat encounters in the map. Raiders are damn near everywhere in 3 for no good reason. The local economy and ecology would not be able to support that many destructive and unproductive dregs of civilization. Same with the super mutants. And that's without the massive lore break of them even existing on the eastern end of the US.

The left handed guns thing is a probably just the devs wanting to show off the casings flying across the screen. I remember hearing that other games with left handed ejection are because of a weird holdover from Counter Strike where all guns were left handed because the CS dev was left handed.

I know that one! The _Source_ remake continued the tradition, only deviating with CS:GO where all weapons are made for right-hand view.

Can't believe he said, "You can't beat fallout 4 withat firing a bullet." Its like he never head of a melee build, the blitz and ninja perks let you become a teleporting shadow assassin, something that ~totally~ fits the world.

36:14 That’s what I love about Skyrim. Literally the only thing you know is you got caught in some ambush while trying to cross the border out of Skyrim. You could be a rebel trying to escape, you could be a thief who got tangled up in some other mess, you could be a completely innocent person wrong place wrong time style
