Tip about Grey Garden: Raider attacks come from the cliff side near the green house (usually coming downhill on the left hand side). Place a few missile turrets and a few regular turrets on the roof and they’ll take care of 80% of attacks. The other attacks come from up the hill near the field area. Place some regular turrets on around the top of the hill and on top of the power station near the workshop and that will take care of the remaining attacks.

Many thanks for sharing your tips, it's been very useful. I did rebuild my base up a little different and they were able to repeal the attack from the cliffside a little more easily.

@@TrappedInFallout Glad I could help Moe, it's the least I can do after all the tips you've given me.
I honestly thought Starlight Drive In would be higher on the list. My buddy would suggest Hangman's Alley as the best, being a survival player, because of its close proximity to the C.I.T. Ruins making it the only real fast-travel place with Institute teleportation, and it being centrally located. I don't particularly like the narrow build structure and inability to scrap the shack that's already there, but I can see its appeal to survival playthroughs.

I thought the same about Starlight Drive-In.

It was something I had thought of myself to be honest. In the end I went with the order but the truth be told all the settlements in this list (and some that I did not add) are all great options for different reasons. My personal favorite because of my own playstyle is Hangman's Allay.
@Psychonautical894 ай бұрын
It blows my mind how Oberland Station never makes the cut. Its a mostly-centered location with a small, but very manageable build size. I square a concrete fortress to the shack in the middle and build a thriving military outpost there as my main base with my best merchants there most plays. If only Spectacle Island wasnt so far!
@TrappedInFallout4 ай бұрын
It's a solid location for sure and I did want to add it. I use it myself actually as a checkout before making my way to Hangman's Alley. But at the same time I personally did not feel it made a top list. Still, I may make a part 2 as its worth building up for sure.
@SaltyBeaver-db4hh3 ай бұрын
Since I only play survival mode, Spectacle Island is a rare stop.. but that's why I'm always on The Brotherhood's good side - vertibirds make for decent "fast travel" As for Oberland, my build there maximizes space with concrete blocks around the border, and fortified gates on either end of the rail tracks

Tip for console: pick one between sanctuary, Red rocket, and the Abernathy farm. Especially if you're going to use the build limit glitch. All three are in such close proximity that they load in at the same time. It's referred to as the unholy Trinity. If you build it all three or two it can lead easily to game corruption.
@TrappedInFallout3 ай бұрын
That's a good point, thanks for sharing. I personally have not have this issue as I tend to use Red Rocket as a Pitstop but it's still worth sharing for sure for folks who like to maximise every settlement.

Bro picking 10 is hard, good list though 👍 every settlement can be fun to build out in a lore friendly way, for specific purposes. You're really making me wanna get back into FO:4 - it's been a few years, work has kept me too busy 🙃

I'm not a Settlement builder. I build the bare minimum to have all that is necessary for 20 settlers. Like Sanctuary. It has 9 perfectly useable houses with bedrooms. Why build a barracks ? I plant 6 of each type of crop, using 4 farmers to produce 24 food in the empty space just south of the Workshop. Although there is ample backyard space if I wanted to spread the garden out. I build a water fountain next to the red Workshop and generally a hand water pump near the South Bridge. Then I will build 2 Water Purifiers in the river. I build 100 defense with turrets. The 3 attacker spawn points are heavily covered and there are turrets left to cover the interior of the Settlement. Lastly, I install a Settler Recruiting Beacon. Job done, and I still have 4 nice flat foundations if I decide to build something else like a Market or a Robot Workbench. I arm my settlers as I can and also give them armor as I can. Sturges gets upgraded with Combat Armor and a Minigun. Marcy Long gets Combat Armor and 2 weapons, usually an upgraded .44 Pistol and a Combat Rifle, as she is mad enough to take on the world. Since Mama Murphy has high attributes like 19 strength, she gets a good gun and the meanest melee weapon I have. Jon Long gets the standard gear every other settler gets, which is a mix of Leather and Metal armor and a good Rifle. No one but me gets anything explosive as I really dislike Friendly Fire.
@TrappedInFallout4 ай бұрын
I build settlements myself as I find them fun to do. On the note of why not use existing structures, sometimes they are actually not fit. For instance when playing beds in those building, the settlers for some reason don't get full happiness because the buildings have holes in the roof. In terms of armor and weapons, I just dupe all my power armor and weapons and gove them all away.

When I used to play FO4, I only built up locations that had residence. If it never had original settlers, I never bothered putting anybody there. Hard enough keeping a handful of settlements let alone all of them.
@TrappedInFallout4 ай бұрын
That's an interesting way of selecting which settlements to build at. Me, I built up every single one I found.
@oldmangreywolf68924 ай бұрын
@@TrappedInFallout I would claim them all, but only build on settled ones. Settlers attracted raids. The less that had settlers reduced the raids. I also only had one settlement on Farharbor. The one on the north side. The attacks only came from one direction so all my torrents got put there.

The only issue with Spectacle Island is its build limit. I tend to create one secure area for settlers with surrounding walls and turrets. I keep the population down to four. Then I fill the build limit with Water Purifiers to make caps.
@TrappedInFallout3 ай бұрын
Another great idea. On the island I end up making small hubs all around the island making effectively my own small town. Framerate takes a big hit.
@SaltyBeaver-db4hh3 ай бұрын
To get around build limits, I place at least about 5 wiring posts, and run wires from each one to the rest - idk if this is a well known exploit or not, but you can add wires even after build limit is reached - then scrap the wiring when build limit is reached, and it clears space for more actual objects 😉

I've never figured out how to efficiently defend Spectacle Island. Mirelurks always seem to spawn behind whatever defenses I've got set up, and my crops always seem to get damaged wherever they attack. And the size of the place makes it hard to sort out the settlers I've sent there to fill specific roles.
@TrappedInFallout4 ай бұрын
And for this reason I setup 360 defence turrets in the sky and this helps me to defend enemies coming in from virtually any direction.
@singjai1084 ай бұрын
My turrets kill, but, no matter where I plant crops, the mirelurks scuttle right through them.
@DPrest684 ай бұрын
@@singjai108 Did you turn the switch on near the work bench to keep the Mirelurks away? I rarely have any issues with them. You could build a greenhouse for your crops if all else fails.
@NorthernChev3 ай бұрын
I can’t believe you even PUT Red Rocket on this list. Close to NOTHING. Very LITTLE ground for planting. Almost no area for building, unless you get on top of the station, and cramped once you get over 8 settlers there.
@TrappedInFallout3 ай бұрын
Fair comments - it's literally on the list because of how homely it feels. It's where you find Dogmeat, not a large build area but interesting to build in given the structure of the build there. It would have been lovely if you could also access the tunnel underneath but it's a cool location - to me anyway.
