I love the minutemen but God I hate having to manually handle all the settlement problems. I think it would've been better if, once you took back the Castle, you were given the option to build a tactics table or something and send minutemen troops to liberate or rescue various settlements. The soldiers could contact you if they find a unique sidequest like that Finch Farm mess, like "Sir/ ma'am you're gonna wanna see this." Just my opinion tho

I think attacks occur at a reduced rate if you go overboard on settlement defenses, or at least it's more likely that the settlement defends itself with little damage.

I’m a little late to the convo but there’s a mod for it, Minutemen radiant squads. You can recruit squads where you can send them to settlement quests and do them for you, they even bring the caps for you.

Played this build in the past year and one of my favorite Fudgemuppet builds next to the Silver Shroud and Samurai. Really took my time building up settlements, adding caravans, getting the best merchants…was in the 50s level wise before I finally got around to visiting the Institute

I have a hancock with my miniteman character. We just roam around the commonwealth dressed in revolutionary costumes, do drugs, and help people. My melee sword and hancock's shotgun compliment eachother nicely too. Plus chems are very useful in a melee build.

Love playing as general on survival but I usually go Commando or rifleman and ALWAYS use these mods -FCOM -Militarized Minutemen - FCOM MM Patch Along with some others for settlement building such as -USO (Base game) -USO (Season Pass) -Settlements expanded -Manufacturing extended etc Makes for a super nice play through and makes me feel like I’m actually a general lol

The Postman Build GEAR Postman Cap and Postman Uniform (clean ones found in HUB 360 during Jackpot mission in railroad) Use the railroad to get ballistic weave, equip ballistic weave 5 to the uniform giving you 110 damage and energy resist. Weapons could be anything really, junk jet maybe? PERKS Get armorer 4 of course to get the 5th ballistic weave upgrade. Maybe lone wanderer. The rest is basically up to you.

In a real life scenario, the BoS are probably the most secure, powerful faction that actually isn't evil (looking at you, Institute). I mean, let's be real, vertibirds, the Prydwen, and power armor outmatch laser muskets, a castle, and artillery any day. The Railroad is appealing, just not inherently powerful.

I know I'm a few years late to this. But I feel that the General should have the Demo Expert perk. It affects the artillery shells, you don't believe me then look it up. Many a True Nerd did a play through years ago with this perk and he practically leveled entire enemy camps without entering them

I made a similar build but with lone wanderer instead of inspirational, not as thematically fitting but the +100 carry weight is awesome to carry all that junk back to your settlements (with dogmeat as a mule) I also took armorer because it makes a huge difference with all the armor upgrades, and if you go for power armor you need armorer + science for all the best mods. Science feels like a waste if you're only going to upgrade your gun like the build in the video.

Doing this playthrough I randomly found a ghoul hideout that already had a legendary ghoul with a laser musket... On Easy. So I farmed it till I got the perk I liked. Thank you for showing me how or I wouldn't have known.

I feel like the "ex-military, form a family, go to vault, lose child" back story of the game really limits your choices for making your own back story. What if I wanted to play as a psychopath who had no interest in forming a family or joining the military? Or what if I wanted to play a character who was completely neutral towards the war and didn't want anything to do with anyone involved? The conversation options are quite limiting too. What if I wanted to be a scientist who could outsmart robots based on my science skill? Why couldn't they bring back those skill-based conversation options? They were fun and built up your character's personality. Fallout 4 is great, but character customisation and conversation seems to have taken a back-seat, :(

+Obelisk I liked that it gave you a military background, because that way it actually explains how you are a master with every weapon out there. Where as fallout 3, you leave the vault, never once having held a weapon and you can use any gun perfectly fine. Or fallout new vegas, where you were a courier, who probably never used anything other than a pistol, and yet you can use anything perfectly fine. with a military background, it makes sense that you'd know your way around alot of the weapons. Although, if you really want to, you could say that the whole 'ex-military' thing is because you were forced to join as a conscript. The family thing is just a plot device I've got to say, I never understood why people made a backstory for their characters, as it doesn't affect how fun the game is, or anything really, it just takes time out of your playtime because you are thinking up some useless story for your character that you'll forget after a couple hours of playing. the perk based conversations would have been a cool addition to bring back, I liked being able to do things such as in fallout 3, where if you have robotics expert you could entirely skip the robot section of the wasteland survival guide. But, I guess we have consoles to blame for the dialogue circle rather than a list, since it 'why would you want to go through a list when you can just push a button to choose the option you want'. and the circle means we can only have 4 options.

Curie is rather annoying to get. If you aren't charismatic, you will need 3 fusion cores just to get into the vault where she is located. If you don't do the steps to get her in a certain order,it will bug and be impossible to do. Plus the actual quest in the secret vault is annoying as you permanently lose max health. On top of all of that, curies " Synth" body is bugged also. She will routinely switch to melee for no apparent reason. She's a great character, but her development was clearly rushed.

I've heard dismissing her and getting her again will fix that bug and reset her AI, if that doesn't work just give her Grognak's Axe and let her go to town on people.

A Hunting Rifle (Modified with the .50 Caliber Receiver, Long Light Barrel, Either the Full Stock or the Marksman's Stock, Medium Quick-Eject Mag, Either the Reflex Sight, Medium Scope or Long Scope, and Either the Bayonet or the Compensator). 2. A Double-Barrel Shotgun (Modified with the Calibrated Powerful Receiver, Long Barrel, Full Stock, and Either the Reflex Sight [Dot] or the Reflex Sight [Circle]). 3. A Semi-Auto Pipe Rifle (Modified with the Calibrated Powerful Receiver, Ether a Short Light Barrel or a Short Ported Barrel, Either a Comfort Grip or a Sharpshooter's Grip, a Large Quick-Eject Mag, a Short Scope or a Glow Reflex Sight, and a Large Bayonet or a Compensator). 4. A Bolt-Action Pipe Pistol (Modified with Either the Calibrated Powerful Receiver or the .50 Caliber Receiver, Either the Short Light Barrel or the Long Ported Barrel, Sharpshooter's Grip, Either the Reflex Sight or Glow Reflex Sight, and Either a Small Bayonet or a Compensator). 5. Somewhere in the comments I recommend how to tweak this build so it works better on Legendary difficulty, and my tweaks do that but they fail the fun test. I have the most fun with this build playing it the way the guys recommend so I'm turning down the difficulty to normal or hard, restarting from the vault exit, and just having fun being the General. 'nuff said.

There is a mod for the laser musket to have a bayonet, which works perfectly for the aesthetic, and also helps if you don't have time to switch weapons (cause sometimes weapons have trouble switching) Edit: And by mod, I don't mean, like a mod in the vanilla game already, I mean a mod from Nexus Mods, which adds a weapon mod, for the laser musket.

Thanks for this build guys, this build was what inspired me to really enjoy fallout 4 throughout - and I just couldn't get myself to retire my general character. Never thought about it before but Fallout 5 definitely needs to include dual wielding like they did in Skyrim. This build would really benefit from a saber in one hand and a laser pistol in the other.

This is literally the build I need for my survival playthrough. Cause I wanna get every companion perk I can get. Although I like power armor and heavy guns so I am gonna bend it more towards that.

A great mod for use with this type of build that fits the theme is the Placeable NPC's mod by bradenm650. It adds many different NPCs that can be added to settlements using the build menu. Including Minutemen. Keep in mind that the NPCs added count towards your settlement population so place carefully. The Minutemen are also limited in what jobs they will do around a settlement. I will usually place 2 or 3 Minutemen at a settlement. That helps with the defense and to me increases immersion. The NPCs that are placed can be ordered to man your artillery. At the Castle I will max out the population capacity with just Minutemen to make it a full military base.

I always thought that it would be like the silver shroud build concept, the fact that it would be the characters own rendition of the character alone. But I always thought of the clean room suit, but I wonder if you can do the ballistic weave mod for it. Or just use various synth metal pieces and the under armor being close towards a science fiction looking attire.

+Profane Gunman Why it is hands down the best sniper weapon in the game. Especially the six crank combined with two shot. That literally one shot kills almost everything. The only two downsides to it is the slow reload speed and ammo consumption.

My end game gear was a little different; I picked up the shishkebab from the "out of the fire" quest, he wielded it to remind him of what's truly important and to make Great Grandpa Finch proud. And I picked up the legendary Gauss Rifle, the Last Minute! the combination of these two weapons made me proficient at long range and close range combat!
