Funny thing is: No you don't, Mr. Wallace is never in there. If you are on "Pinned" and you try to go in there there's noone there, Wallace is just a dialogue trigger on the door.

This room is part of an Institute quest, where you recruit a scientist for the Institute. (OR just kill him if you have shit charisma) It's pretty interesting actually, the only part of the game (that i know of) where they have special recorded dialogue of someone speaking muffled through a closed door.

that guy didn't fled the institute, he is a normal settler who is suspected to have a great mind and would be a good asset for the institute. They fed him scientific materials and he was deemed worthy, so they sent a team to pick him up. The guy who fled the institute is dr. Brian Virgil and you can't kill him before you completed a part of the main quest involving him.

Room is used for the Institute mission "pinned". The last mission where you have a chance to side with the minuteman or the Institute.

Thanks to Ryan H and all the commenters here for illuminating this mystery! I have so far been putting off making ANY decisions that would cut me off from any faction. I think most of the factions are pretty stupid, except possible they Minutemen. I hate making ANY decisions that limit my future options. But yeah, I understand, that is what the game is all about.

Also if you really want the full experience with the factions do their quests all the way until it tells u that u are gonna be enemies. For blind betrays don’t talk to Kells if you don’t wanna be enemies with RR. In terms of loot however, do the railroad questline

@@richardreinertson1335 Also for nuka world (im not sure 100% if this works) but if you want to keep preston garvey and get the perks from nuka world, do nuka world and all of the raider stuff you want to do, and then complete the first step quest. You probably did this already without knowing, but maybe your next playthrough if u wanna 100 percent the game. Rn im on my second survival run trying to get as close to 100% as I can.

There’s lots of hidden & unfinished rooms like this in the game, shortcuts between debris filled hallways, etc. You can use Mobile Workshop or Conquest to scrap interior building locations & check behind all the doors. Sometimes you’ll find working containers & items laying around even. This power armor glitch is a really cool method tho that I didn’t know about.

A lot of times they’ll build a full layout for a building & design it, & then add the rubble & cut certain parts out, but they don’t take out the containers & items in the process. So it’s pretty fun to find things. I just build a Conquest settlement at CIA and opened up one of the doors to the outside to build a huge extra wing onto the building. Good thing about interior cells too is they don’t mess with the outside map any bit.

The thing about the quest (vanilla) is that we never meet the guy, even at the Institute he is found wearing a hooded suit and we never see behind that reflective mask. They probably had a reveal of the scientist planned when you retrieved him for the institute, but then never actually made the character. Maybe the allowance for assignation became too much of a complicating factor for the plot line. Whatever the case, they did supply a form of set dressing for that room suggesting that originally someone was intended to walk out.

it's part of a main quest Pinned [spoiler]After speaking to Enrico Thompson, the door to the room containing T.S. Wallace will remain inaccessible unless the persuasion attempts with him are failed. The Sole Survivor does not need to enter the room to speak to Wallace; the conversation can be conducted through the closed door (by standing near the door and selecting 'Activate T.S. Wallace'). If all persuasion attempts with Wallace fail, a synth will teleport inside his room to "subdue" him. During this time, the door will open and the player character cannot interact with his body. One can still drag him around and even cannibalize him alive, making him one of the two people in the entire series that can be eaten alive, the other being Carlyle St. Clair III.[/spoiler]
