. How to get 100 Happiness in a Fallout 4 Settlement. This will get you the Benevolent Leader trophy and achievement. The maximum population is 10 + your charisma level (including bonus charisma gained by gear. You will need to have food, water and beds at or above the the current population total. Put 3-4 settlers on food and the rest on Tier 3 stores. Highest tiered stores will require Local Leader rank 2, cap collector and medic. Clinics are the best.
If you want charisma gear, look for glasses and TRILBY HAT. The best outfit is the Reginald's suit (male) and Agatha’s Dress (female) for completing the Curtain Call side quest at Trinity Tower. This grants +3 Charisma, or +5 with the hat and glasses

For all those having trouble. My sanctuary got stuck at 95 then started losing happiness for no apparent reason. My winning strategy was this. Star Drive In. As it doesn't have the shitty non working settlers (mama Murphy, and that depressed guy. 20 people. 20 food. 20 water 88 defense 20 beds 16 people on level 3 clinic duty. But level 3 clothing stores are cheaper. 4 people on food duty. Shop keepers wore hats and food people had armor to keep things organized in my head. I set up the settlement in exactly this way. Made sure everyone had a job. Let the game sit with the TV off and went to work. Came back and had the trophy unlocked. I fought with sanctuary for 3 days. I did this in one. Try it exactly this way! Get it done!

Adding on. My settlement had one purpose. This trophy. I literally had 20 beds with one big roof over them. 16 shops in two rows. And about 200 tables (4 wood to build) to increase my size bar, 2 water purifiers, and food. I had NOTHING else in the settlement period. Nothing. THIS WILL WORK

Nice job. I didn't even know there was an achievement for this. I have 25 people in sanctuary but it's never been higher then 90.. I have about 10 shops half of them are tire 3.. Food is about 50. Water 100 defence 100.. But can't seem to get it higher and I wish I could kick out the non workers. That may help too

Got this trophy myself easier than this guide. Instructions. Go to Red Rocket Settlement. You have to get: -6 settlers,7 beds(one for you) 6 or 7 water pumps, 6 mutfriut, 5 tier 3 clinics, build wooden crates til the bar in the right upper corner goes up (large settlement), build defenses til you get 60 more or less. Now the important things: -Assign 1 settler to the mutfruits (so you have 6 food). The other five to the clinics. -Be sure to assign each settler to one specific bed, so each settler has his/her own bed. -Build a radio near the clinics, and some pictures all over the settlement because the happines will go up faster. -Build the energy generator/s away from the clinics or the beds, because somehow the settlers dont like loud noises. -Dont stay away from the settlement too much. What i did was to sleep 24 hours each time happiness went up (about 30-40 minutes) Very easy way to get the trophy with only around 9000 caps. Be free to ask if you have trouble or doubts. Like to share this knowledge.

The only reason the happiness drops so harshly is because there's a glitch on the PS4 (haven't been able to confirm it on PC or Xbone). If you're far from Sanctuary for example, look at your pip boy and you'll see it's telling you that you have no water or beds, etc. Then the game thinks your treating them like crap and drops your happiness. So stupid.

Preston and Piper don't let me assign them to anything but they work on the farms I didn't even put them there and yeah I'm on ps4 also a little annoyed but I don't mind. Also I can't seem to like remove food for example you place down a Tato and you can't pick it up, only happens to certain ones

Water purifiers are pretty solid because, over time, when you go in to the work bench, you'll get free purified water. Combo that with corn, mut froot, and tato plants, you'll be able to create vegetable paste, which in turn breaks down in to 5 adhesives.

One thing I noticed on my second play through is that when Sturges is giving you the building tutorial a tip pops up stating that defense should be equal or greater to the cumulative amount of food and water in order to reduce raids. I don't know if that is active/assigned food, but it follows that happiness would be affected if you've planted a ton of crops that your happiness will suffer if you don't build a ton of defense. The maker of the video mentioned needing to pump his defense up to about 100 I believe for this reason. Probably best to rip out all crops except the necessary amount.

After hours of bashing my head against the wall, I have cracked it! So here's what you need to do guys: pick any settlement and meet the basic needs of the people (you want about 15-20 people to have a good crack at it) so make sure you have enough beds (make sure they have a roof above them!), food, water, defenses to cover them all. Assign 4-5 people to food. Put the rest on level 3 stores, personally I did clinics because people have been implying them to be the best since they are most expensive (I can't see a difference). Now you need to build your size up. Gather as much wood as you can, and go into furniture, containers and then build the yellow wooden crate all the way to the right a bunch of times until you get your size bar to become yellow. In the midst of all this, NEVER fast travel out of the settlement - it initiates a bug that causes happiness to decrease even when everything is good in the settlement. What you should do instead is go into the workshop, and remain in workshop mode and run out of the green barriers in the settlement, and then close workshop and then fast travel to places. Then, simply sleep/wait until the happiness rises to 100. Enjoy :) I tried a million other things but this was the golden formula for me, everything worked a charm once I figured it out. Thanks to some of the comments on here for the assistance. Hope this works for everyone! :)

For those still having a hard time with the trophy follow this guide getting to 20 settlers. Now I wish someone had pointed this out but when making shops its not just the LVL 3 tier stores with happiness. I got it with 4 on mutfruit and 16 working shops. When i got to 97 it stopped, I realized that LVL 3 clinics produce more happiness than a LVL 3 bar or general store. All i did was replace a couple of the shops with clinics and it went up a point for each one. Don't worry about decorations as i had absolutely none, just defense and have more clinics than other shops not just 16. It does cost more caps to make the clinics but this is still a lot easier than trying to add more and more people.

If you want to get this, I would recommend clearing the private island(I believe it is called spectacle island) and doing it there. There is alot of land there, and since it starts at zero population everyone you get will work for you. In sanctuary I had issues with the Long's and Mama Murphy not wanting to obey orders.

I noticed that increasing you charisma also increases settlement happiness. I was at 98 happiness, 20 settlers, 10 charisma, and about 15ish tier 3 stores in my settlement when my happiness started to decrease. So i was planning on making another store and getting another settler so i went to buy clothing from the store i set up to increase my charisma. When i equipped the clothing my happiness started to rise again and 2 days later i got the trophy without the other store. So definitely use charisma enhancing clothing.

It is really bad. It reminds me of Jurassic World Evolution, except if they didn't show you how happy the dinosaurs were, didn't tell you what they did or didn't like, and only changed the happiness stat once for every 5 hours you played. Its frustrating.

Also, if you complete those "Kill Raiders/Ghouls/Supermutants" minor quests for your settlement, that boosts happiness as well. I have 16 in Sanctuary Hills, Level 3 Food/Drink Vendor, just hit 100 happy. Did take long time though :) -Good video!

This is a stupid trophy in an almost perfect trophy list for Fallout 4. Here is what worked for me, and it worked perfectly. Go to a small settlement like Red Rocket Station. Build 6 or 7 beds indoors. Plant 6 mutfruit. Build defense up to about 60. Build 5 tier3 (surgery station) clinics. Build enough wooden crates until your size goes yellow, meaning becomes large. You find wooden crates under furniture/containers. Build 2 or 3 water pumps. I did it with 3 but should work with 2. Go to another settlement and send 6 people to your chosen settlement, or use recruitment radio beacon (make sure to disable beacon after 6 people have arrived). Assign 1 person for food. Assign rest 5 people to clinics. 1 for each clinic. Wait for happiness to go up. After happiness goes up, sleep for 24 hours (thats why I made 7 beds, 1 for me). Repeat previous sentence. P.S. Never leave the settlement while doing this. It could bug out and happiness could drop. Enjoy your trophy :)

this achievement and this part of the game is the single biggest scar on an otherwise magnificent and enjoyable game... you cant tell which settlers are assigned to which crop, and lets be honest keeping track of 20 people is not easy, you cant easily equip them with any guns/armor... half the time people dont seem to be working or god forbid you try and find someone specific in your settlement ugh... for them swearing everything in this "just works" at e3... i couldnt disagree more... would have been so much better if they dedicated resources to something else then this makeshift minecraft junk :/

Fun fact: while I was doing this metod on my santuary, I got to happines 96 and it was increasing. I was waiting and all the sudden the trophy poped at happines 96 in my sanctuary. I looked other the workshops and apperently my bunker hill was at happines 100 . Bunker hill consisted of 0 defense, 6 water, 6 people , 9 bed and 6 food. I have no idea how it got to happiness 100 without anything else. Without shops etc. Must be a bugg

Some extra notes: You don't need 20 people. Once all needs are adequate, like beds under roofs and food n water, happiness is at 80. Anything beyond 80 is bonus happiness shared among the people. Cats and dogs help a lot. Exercise equipment help. Tier 3 bars give most happiness. I Start with 20 people and when the up arrow for happiness goes away I remove a person. Less people to share the bonuses. In the end I had 13 people, 20 food,, 30 water, 50 power, 108 defense, 9 tier 3 shops 4 of which were bars, 4 cats, 2 dogs 5 work out equipments, and got the trophy. I love the channel hope this helps others.

Just 2 settlers, 5 food, 43 water, 100 power, defense 44, beds 2, 1 tier 3 bar, 1 worker for food. location is dalton farm, i didn't even need to be there. I went on normally playing and sooner or later it popped. I also have 2 other settlements at 100 with exact same setup.

+Thriift Pretty much all you have to do is have two saves before the The Molecular Level. So the first first save will be siding with Minute Men (though you can do there quest before reaching Molecular Level) and Brotherhood of Steel. Second save: Side with Railroad go undercover with them as a spy to spy on the Institute and be buddy buddy with them, you'll just need to have some saves built up so you can side with the Railroad and use another save to side with the Institute. (They don't like each other.) There will be a certain point in the story where you can only choose to side with one. BUT you can have a couple saves before doing that. This is by far the most annoying trophy ever. Settlers are too buggy for me and they all decide to stop working all together whenever they feel like it. Then I have to go through the whole tedious process of assigning them all over again. And god forbid the settlement gets attacked. They all stand clustered together and you cant even assign them after that. Did everything this video and others said and im still stuck between 95 and 96 happiness. Wont go any higher or lower. I even have multiple saved games for different settlements that I've tried to get to 100. An awful trophy for such an amazing game honestly.

I'm going to leave this comment here, for anyone (like me) who had immense trouble completing this trophy .And this man's guide is long excruciatingly frustrating, dont try it, your wasting caps: -You dont have to have a large number of residents, 3 is fine for completion -make 2 clinics, 5 mutfruits, 1 water source (does not matter),6 turrets, and 4 beds -assign 2 residents to the clinics and one to a farm -assign all the residents to a bed -idle for 1 in game hour, around 8 minutes, within your settlement(this brings up happiness by a lot) -once you see your happiness go up, go to bed for 48 hours -repeat the last 2 steps for 100 happiness. This should be completed in >3 hours

***THIS IS THE SOLUTION TO THE LOSS OF HAPPINESS BUG!** Go around sanctuary (or which ever settlement you are on) and scrap EVERY TV on the lot and you wont have that issue anymore. For some reason the TV's are the source of the problem. worked for me and my settlements happiness hasn't dropped since. Hope it helps!

On PS4, and possibly other consoles, it counts TVs as settlers. Because the TVs aren't assigned to a particular job, it then counts them as unemployed. Unassigned settlers (slackers) cause the workers to become unhappy, then they stop working. If you have too many unassigned settlers (four, I believe), no new settlers will come to that location.

I have good food at the one I'm linked to but it don't seem to share. only the stuff in the workbench seems to go across. if u see my post on here I have 38ppl, 25 t3 shops invested in as well, 54food, 98 water, 145 power , 45 beds with almost all been matched to a person... build only as much beds as you have people and then check if all beds are occupied. sometimes these npcs are too stupid to take a free bed and this results in lower happiness. you can assign beds if some are still free.

and try to lower the food production. you really only need as much food as people. i have 20 people, 23 water, 0 food (had 24 before), 21 beds, energy doesn't matter (i have 19), and 48 protection, 19 traders (only clinics, bars and general traders, tier 3)

I build a separate sub-settlement in Sanctuary. Beds in a building, and a garden to work in. I give Sturgis, the union boss, a scrapping station to be near, so he can pretend like he's being useful. It's away from my other settlers so I don't have to deal with them as much.

btw the advantage of building the more expensive industrial water filtration unit is that it makes purified water that gets placed in your workshop periodically. this can be a massive resource boon. combine excess water and the veggies you grow to make adhesive (veg starch).

All you need is 2 settlers and a lv3 medic bay and enough food, water, and defense for those two settlers. If you're settlement isn't large enough, simply drop crates and other junk to enlarge it. This is the easiest trophy in the world once you know the secret. Oh, and stay away from companions and story NPCs in your settlement. They can glitch your happiness. You only need 2 random settlers and that's it. I usually would just transfer them from another settlement and have a turret there to guard them.

+Fassault You have to make sure you have as many people as you can on stores. Like if you have 20 people, you should probably have 16 people on stores and 4 on food. That was the problem I had. I had everything else but only had 14 people on stores, 4 on food, and 2 I found I had sent on supply lines.

Not sure if its been mentioned or not but... its a good idea to have water purifiers, sanctuary is a great place to chain them because of the river. I use 3 tier 3 generators, allowing me to construct 6 industrial purifiers, for 240 water income. This will give me a bunch and i mean a bunch of purified water that I can sell every day, its a great way to build up the caps you need, if your don't want to use exploits. You'll find the purified water deposited in the worktable each day. Note that the settlement will wine about lack of defense, and may come under a lot of attacks from raiders. To deter attacks, the total defense must meet or exceed the total of (food + water). However unlike the op, i don't recommend using a lot of low level turrets, as the power of the missile turrets and heavy laser turrets over the level 1 is no laughing matter. 3 or 4 missile turrets will make very short work of even a death claw, where that same death claw would decimate 10 to 20 level 1 and 2 turrets. For those that are having issues with the settlement loosing count of the beds, and or resources within the settlement, I have a solution, simply don't fast travel out of the settlement, but rather walk a good distance away from the settlement and then invoke fast travel. However there are several other bugs that still plague happiness which i won't discuses. Anyhow hope this helps.

I try to be selective about how many missile turrets I have, and where I put them. During an attack they can pivot a full 360° and strafe your settlers. Explosives are one of the things that can actually kill them. Also, they will try to fire through structures you've built to hit an enemy target. One of mine took out my generators, and a few other turrets, because a bloat fly came too close at the Starlight Drive-in. If you have high enough intelligence, put points in to Science and get the heavy lasers. Alternately, build the missile turrets inside of something that limits their field of fire.

I'm building up Sanctuary with my Hacker Character. It costs so much copper right now. And this is my second character. Low level terminal based defenses and stuff. If you decide to do it, set up your terminal next to the original terminal found in the first yellow house. That should be your player home. On the second platform is where you set up a power plant. Make it a steel house with a wooden house on top for beds, and leave a place with laser turrets.

This trophy is certainly not an easy one. I was stuck at 85%, so thought I’d take drastic action. I built an amazing chain of houses, connected by wooden shack floors, raised high off the ground. I built roofed, separate shops for each type of category selling items, hooked up a fusion generator to all the houses which is nice and silent. For some reason the percentage started falling and got down to 80%. I then decided to do the Automatron DLC and got to the point where I built a couple of robots. Now I’m at 77%. The water and defence are crazily over the top at around 227, the food is around 30 something, I have the bench press and the other piece of gym equipment for them to enjoy. I’m definitely not destroying my houses now after days of hard work making it look nice. I’m actually thinking I may just try and 100% Starlight Drive instead, as I really can’t stand the location so don’t mind messing up.

This is a very time and resource wasting way of getting 100 happiness, if you just keep doing the Preston Garvey quest over and over again you will easily get 100 happiness in one sitting. As long as you have the basic needs of your settlement. This will also raise all your settlements happiness making your workers more productive and bringing in WAY more junk/resource!

You can sell purified water for caps, so make decent industrial pumps, produce lots of water, create first shop and sell water every time merchant has any caps. I transformed mireluk queen island into purified water factory, gives decent income, just that running around to sell is mindless grind. But after watching your vid i am raising charisma nad getting those perks needed for shops.

Guys! Decorations are the key! Mine was stuck but then i went and got like 500+ wood and started spamming paintings EVERYWHERE (create separate save for this) then after it went up 1 I'd sleep for 24 hours, spam paintings/statues till it went up again, repeat till you get 100. I did it with 17 settlers -14 shops and 3 on food.

max population is 30 because there is a special npc you can get for your weapon shop that you have to find out in the wasteland, and the only way to send him to your settlement is to have a population of 30 "smiling larry" is his name hes met during a random encounter . This information can be found on bottom of page 241 in vault dweller's survival guide! nice video :)
