I did not expect the story to turn out this way... not at all! Danse is a synth and we have to kill him according to Elder Maxson.
But I don't want Danse to die so I'l try to save him. And i succeeded ;) This is how you can save Danse from dying and still be part of the Brotherhood of steel and getting promoted!

You might not even see this but heres my two cents 1. I get what your doing. It is funny. 2. It is very possible that he felt sadness or betrayal. Its not like elder maxson hated danse before he found out, but hes a leader, he cannot show danse is the exception. Now if your character has high enough speech it isn't unbelievable that he would be convinced Danse is not the enemy show him some humanity somehow, and he did... Granted the game undermines this by saying Danse will stay at the bunker. As far the BoS is concerned with the exception of scribe Halen hes dead, leaving room for a promotion because you did the deed it makes sense.

Elder Maxson made valid points because the Institute was responsible for the kidnappings, murders and settlements being wiped out but Paladin Danse took a lot of risks, made many sacrifices and decisions that saved Brotherhood soldiers. Even though, I see both perspectives, I think saving Paladin Danse was the best option and will always save him for every gameplay, even if I have to side with the Railroad & the Institute to get his companion perk.

the Synths aren't bad because they look like people they're bad because the Institute is using them to *replace* people (I specify the Institute because of Far Harbor) we even have the Coursers, which (afaik) are Synths created to be an original individual, which just shows that it *is* possible for a truly original person to be created as a Synth (as original as their memories)

I gotta say, this was one of the most powerful scenes I had the fortune of witnessing in this game. There is so much raw emotion, and both sides give really great arguments. It doesn't feel like a cheaply manufactured plot. The developers actually used realistic gestures, instead of the randomized ones when most characters speak. People put their SOULS in this scene. And it really shows. I grew fond of Danse in the short time I knew him. And I was very pissed off when Elder Maxson wanted me to kill him. I was bound and determined to keep Danse alive. I knew the Elder would be waiting for us outside. I knew it wouldn't have been that easy for us. Elder Maxson convinced me...like a REAL person. And I wanted to give into denile. I knew he was right. But I still didn't want to kill Danse. He actually made me question my own decision. Even in the aftermath of winning the argument. The ending was SO realistic... I honestly don't think there is any other way it could have ended perfectly. I was very impressed.

Not necessarily, Gen 3 synths can be replacements for people but its also likely he was a Gen 3 synth whose memories were wiped by the railroad who is living as a genuine human which seems to be the case.

Originally there was a mission that would trigger after sparing Danse where Elder Maxon would call you out like before. Only this time you are given the option to challenge him for title of elder. This mission was fully completed, recorded and programmed but was cut from the game as it conflicted with the final mission. After challenging and defeating Maxon he will no longer be present during the final mission. Because his speech is what flags the door to open at the beginning of the Nuclear Option mission it leaves you stuck in that room. However, with this mod you control the BoS, choose to spare or destroy the Railroad, you have access to Maxon’s private quarters, Maxon’s Power Armor, it gives you a means to get the Final Judgement Gatling laser and Maxon’s kickass coat.

Step 1: Side with BOS or Minutemen (give Network Scanner Holotape to Maxson) to eventually acquire Blind Betrayal quest. Step 2: Max your Speech. Step 3: Convince Scribe Haylen to reveal Danse's location by promising to hear him out. Step 4: Go to the Listening Outpost where Danse is, refuse to kill him. Step 5: Refuse Maxson's order (avoid Aggressive dialogue option and have Charisma-Speech as high as possible). Done.

One good tip: Go do the whole Trinty Tower quest and get that suit that guy gives you, so far, it's the only suit with max charisma I've found, by max I mean 3 also it's called Reinalds Suit

What really worked for me: 1 - eat the Grape Mentats on Danse Room. Then follow the video tip. 2 2 - After earing the mentats I convinced Danse when I talked about my family. Then, eat one more Grape mentats before talk to Arthur.

There was gonna be an alternate ending to this quest where you and Paladin Danse go back to the Prydwen and you have a battle to the death with Elder Maxson so that you become the new Elder.

Although the Brotherhood's stance on synths is correct, I wanted to save Danse. I tried this and it wouldn't work. I took literally every pathway and every pathway ended up with Danse dead. Granted, I haven't leveled up my persuasion, so I couldn't choose all options, but even when I was forced to kill Elder Maxon, Danse ended up dead although Elder Maxon wasn't even close to killing him. So basically if you don't level up your persuasion, there is no way to save Danse to my understanding and experience.

So I guess danse joined the brotherhood and they never gave him a physical? Until now? How could they not know he was a synthe for his entire military career??? or otherwise he was replaced by a synth at some point in his career in the brotherhood. And the details of that fact would be really pertinent and significant to the story and to the reality of the situation they dropped the entire concept. Because in order to fool the brotherhood they would have had to make a synth that was just as committed to the brotherhood as the original danse was which is tactically no better than having the original danse unless you're trying to make the point that a synth can be ethical which sounds exactly like something father would do. Except that it means killing the ethical man to replace it with the ethical synth in order to prove the point? Unless it was just a combat death and father was somehow being compassionate by trying to replace dance without getting attacked by the brotherhood itself? Convoluted

If you don't side with the brotherhood on building the teleporter and getting the data encrypted proctor ingram will just stand in one spot and talk about her power armor. Find Doctor Li in the institute and upload the holotape into the terminal to get the institutes data before you talk to the railroad about having been to the institute cause they will give you a holotape just like the brotherhood and it'll mess up the brotherhood questline. It's best to establish contact with the railroad for main quest molecular level. You can skip going to Dr Amari go straight to the old north church down into the basement and input the code railroad to get through the door heading straight to Desdemona to have the Courser chip analyzed then deal only with the brotherhood until you've completed Paladin Dance's quest which will become available after brotherhood quest Liberty Reprimed. Upon completion of Blind Betrayal do not go and see Lancer Captain Kells but instead go work for the railroad until you do half of the Underground undercover quest then you can start doing institute quests and there's a way to do the Mass Fusion institute quest without becoming enemies with the brotherhood leaving the option open to still side with them and blow up the institute. Doing things this way will allow you to see things from all factions perspective and get the most out of the main story

I never went through this mission. I used the Minutemen to destroy the Institute and Danse stayed my companion through it all. I remained in the BoS and stayed the General of the Minutemen. I also destroyed the Railroad with Danse as my companion. Sweet!

I wish that dan(for short nameing him) was framed and wasn't Institute property and that max( for short nameing him to) was Institute property and Dan (short nameing him again) was saved and you two stopped the Institute together

If not for the lack of a Synth Component on his corpse if you kill him, he still could be. Him being a child in a previous game would do nothing to stop the Institute from capturing and replacing him at some point after reaching adulthood. But, again, if you kill him he has no Synth Component as far as I've ever heard (have never killed him myself) so he is not actually a synth.

What I never got, why would the institute create a synth advanced in military background, sworn out to destroy them? It's like creating your own self-assassin. Maxson could have that as a point, that Danse was intended as a spy since the Institute wouldn't have intended for Danse to carry out the task to have the Institute wiped out? (I still spare Danse)

Would have been amazing to have an option to send Danse to Far Harbor, even if he does not like synths, he will be with synths who despise the Institute.
