One thing that pisses me off about this DLC is that there was such a missed oppurtunity to bring our Raiders to the Combat Zone and the East City Downs. It would've been fucking awesome if we could actually bring Raiders to those places and use them for our entertainment.

Also there is a mod called “Preston is killable” by SKK and “Diary of a Madmen” by Thuggysmurf that allows you to kill Preston Garvey and become enemies with the Minutemen and all the vanilla factions. Great for evil roleplayers

Yeah, to me this DLC seems very linear. I know many people didn't like that there wasn't really an "evil" option in the main game, and this DLC tried to fix that. However, I think they really over-compensted and instead of giving you a choice to be good or evil like everyone wanted, they force you to be evil or you miss out on like 80% of the content.

I've done that, basically the second you get to Sanctuary and try to talk to Preston he talks about your affiliation with the raiders, he tells you that you can make things right by killing all the raiders and stops you doing minutemen quests, personally however I haven't done that yet as I like my raider playthrough. Also you can't raid Sanctuary until "The First Step" is completed so if you want to you'd have to save Preston first. Hope this answers some questions :)

I'm still wishing there was a way to convince both to make peace. I can see several strategic advantages to having a group of raiders under the Minutemens thumb, not to mention you're in charge of both. Even if it was just suicide missions or trying to run recon missions against the Brotherhood, Railroad, or Institute as if they got caught to the other factions they are just raiders and would have no idea the Minutemen are keeping tabs on potential enemies. Not to mention you get raiders to do the dirty work the Minutemen wouldn't normally touch, whether that be clearing out settlements, retrieval, or theft of a high value item or target. Not to mention Preston put you in charge for a reason which could be a dialogue option to remind him of your tactical expertise as you were an officer of sorts before the bombs fell making your expertise invaluable. Maybe it's just me but I could easily see the advantage of having basically mercenaries at your disposal, and what would be the price to pay you may ask? Caps? Yeah caps, pay raiders enough caps and they will be content little working bees.

It's not just caps, though. It's space. You'd need to give them places to live. Bases to operate out of. Something I would have liked to see is if one or two of the Raider gangs weren't cartoonishly evil. Like, maybe the Disciples are evil, period, the Pack follow you as long as you prove you're strong, and the Operators would be reasonable and wiling to work with you if you can prove it's to their benefit. And then maybe, instead of strictly giving them settlements, you could clear out and give them Raider and Gunner bases in the Commonwealth (e.g, Saugus Ironworks, GNN, Beantown Brewery, Libertalia, etc.) You could negotiate with them to leave Settlements alone (say, making them part of the supply line so their food and water needs are taken care of) in return for them acting as your shock troops/suicide squads/keeping other raider gangs down.

DoctorPorkenfries That was exactly my line of thinking, and in the real world that is what I would do. But first I imagine it would be a small group at first so naturally you give them a place to operate out of. I know full well I'm not going to put 500 raiders at a place like Coastal Cottage. The Operators I could see being the ones who would entertain my idea the easiest as they stand to make plenty of money doing so as well as getting space. I didn't include gunner bases or other raider locations as those slip my mind as those make excellent locations for settlements however Bethesda does not allow us to use them as settlements for a dumb reason. Now I can understand them not letting us use places like Saugus Iron works as that is a dungeon, however that still holds no logic as the raider factions get to use sections of the park that are also dungeons but just set up in the main area of that section of the park. But in a perfect world or game rather your idea is essentially what I was thinking of. Of course I'd give them space as they grew, just like the Minutemen and settlers needing more space as they grow. Still I think it would be a genius idea and really let you ride in the middle of the morale ground.

Not to mention I know they are at opposite ends but I'm sure a group like the Operators could see the benefits of an alliance. The Pack maybe based on strength alone but I doubt the Disciples would do it. Not to mention I knew Preston was a bad strategist but he even basically says that he will send minutemen to reclaim the settlements the Raiders have taken, the raiders that the General of the fucking Minutemen are in charge of. Your orders should override his as Preston is willing to throw countless lives away just because raiders took over a settlement. It doesnt even matter if you take over settlements that have no settlers and arent in Minutemen control for example at Coastal Cottage or Murkwater construction, its just filled with Mirelurks. There is absolutely no reason to throw lives away just because you disagree with what your CO is doing. It may not be the most morally good action, however I can easily see the benefits of having a group under your control. With the right guidance they could easily stand to control the entire Commonwealth a lot faster. And you wouldnt have to worry about the raiders getting out of hand as you literally control them. And if they ever did decide the betray you (which they wouldnt as that is a really, really bad idea) I would personally assemble a very small team and take out the leader and reason the rest. If the rest cannot be reasoned with you terminate the raiders and it looks like normal Minutemen business disposing of raiders. The only downside is you just lost your suicide squad mercs.

I'll ensure they remain protected, have entertainment, decent living quartets and enough food for themselves but if they step out of line, trying to rebel against me or refuse to work then I'll come down on them hard. I like to think my character's long-term goal with the raiders is similar to Ashur in the Pitt. he wants to make a nation that can fend for itself, but to get to that point has to get his hands dirty and use slave labour. once the commonwealth is well established he'll start to slowly change things. he'll be using the pack and operators because the pack values strength and the operators just want to get caps (which we'd have plenty of by then). the disciples just want to kill and can't be bought, so I can't trust them, so I plan on destroying them.

There is a mod that makes gunners a friendly faction, it has a bounty system where if you do things against the gunners, the become hostile and there are contractors that clear your bounty. Still w.i.p., but a great concept.

That is the one thing I always wanted. Back in Fallout 3, I wanted to be able to send people to my fully stocked fridge and home in Megaton. The settlements in Fallout 4 delivered on that dream. Your idea would be neat, but I'm sure that'd be another IF/ELSE/ELSE IF decision. Plus it'd be nice to be able to charisma my way through the game and really put that Local Leader perk to use.

The pack keeps victims and uses them for pit fights, and the disciples, they don't even give victims that much of a chance, they just butcher them. I don't see how anyone could rationalize this. I literally feel like shit for Preston hating me. I get it, a lot of people dont like him because hes annoying, but I actually liked his good morals. I only did the quest so I could restore power to Nuka World and get the loot that comes with it. I even killed off all the raider gangs afterwards. I seriously wish I could get Preston to forgive me, especially since I made up for it.

You could always go back to a earlier save and not put down the first flag if you really want him to not hate you. That's what I did because I'm also one of the few people that actually like Preston, luckily I had a save right before I raided a settlement.

So with the release of Nuka World and now being able to piss of the Minutemen and Preston, is it possible to completely botch the main story? You become enemies of the Brotherhood, Institute, and the Railroad, but then you also go and piss off the Minutemen completely with Nuka World, what happens? Is it still possible to finish the game?

Not at all no. Basically you get assigned to quests where you clash with Minutemen, Brotherhood, Institute and the Railroad. You can literally gun a squad of Brotherhood down, then fast travel to the Prydwen and wander around as if nothing has changed. It's sort of weird. The attacks on the factions from the main storyline never involve named characters, and even if you attack a settlement with some named characters in them and slaughter everyone there, they will sort of forgive you quickly. There's a lot of cool mechanics in the new dlc but they feel very disconnected from the main game.

Thepuritan1 They wont forgive you if you are an enemy of the Brotherhood/Railroad/Institute past a certain point in the questline. So that just leave the minutemen, we know its possible to fuck up the others, but now the question is, is it possible to fuck up the minutemen advancement with Nuka World. They were intended as a fail-safe if you had messed up the other factions so you could always finish the main quest-line, but now, well, it looks possible to fuck them up too. So, can you? Only way to really tell is to play through a new game with the intention of doing this, and until someone does, its hard to say.

Okay. Are you saying that they won't forgive you if you make them enemies in the main quest? Because that should go without saying. But the DLC isn't a factor in that at all as far as I can tell. From what I understand, you can make Preston fall out with you, but you remain General of the Minutemen and can revert to being a good guy if you wish. It's possible to kill Preston once he's not needed for the main quest, but not to relinquish your title as General of the Minutemen, even as you wage war on the Minutemen. I dunno, I like loads about the DLC, but that feels a little immersion-breaking.

When I say 'from what I understand' I mean that people who have tried this have told me this is the case. I think that's a pretty good way to know for sure to be honest. Hard to think of what they may gain by lying about it. But enjoy the experiments.

You can raid certain settlements because they're not close to primed target places like the slog or greentop nursery to feed your raiders, and you can raid story essential settlements like the castle or if Preston is in a settlement that he's assigned to after you piss him off
