+GunmetalRaven I read on the BOS' doctors terminal (whose name I've forgotten....Cade?) that he struggles with sleeping and has a lot of headaches. he was diagnosed w/ PTSD as a result of losing so many companions on his recon team. they wanted to pull him off the field. so he does sleep...just not well I guess.

Synths technically don't need sleep according to the "improvements", but considering they need to fit in and they talk about one dreaming in the lab - they apparently do at least do it sometimes. So you're probably right with it being more PTSD at this point... Hyper vigilance is pretty common in those with the condition.

Not condoning racism or anything, but Danse is a complex character in that he holds so much hate for certain people yet genuinely loves the Sole Survivor and has some good morals (sadly, only in regard to other humans). People are like that in real life. Sometimes it's shocking to find that a friend of yours holds beliefs that you'd never agree with, because up to that point they acted decently. It's like having a racist grandparent that you love despite their misguided ways. Only your grandparent probably won't kill anyone... Still, it sucks that Danse won't change his mind. Because the irony is that brotherhood for everything they say, programs their soldiers with hatred. Hatred "of the enemy" makes it easy to shut off the recognition of another human being as a person, especially if they look different then you, and especially if there's some "plausible evidence" if they've committed harm against your faction or their beliefs. (IE feral ghouls, super mutants, synths kidnapping people etc) The hatred also makes it easier to keep indoctrinated individuals in line. Sure we may have done some questionable things, but it's "for the greater good", "or it's still nothing as bad as the enemy". Deacon was right in saying to be wary of anyone telling you not to question and obey their tenets without fail.

The way he still uses BOS banter despite not being w/ them, how synth related dialogue options only marginally change his preferences, how his character switch out dialouges remain the exact same? It doesn't really make sense. I know he still identifies w/ the BOS, and I get that. But if he's really coming to terms w/ his own identity, its only rational that it would affect his views on other synths (and by extension, categorically discriminated "sub-human races"). I sorta of hope the change up some things w/ him in future patches or dlc. If not, it just seems like clunky writing and a huge missed opportunity for a character arch. Til then, I'll just assume the best and roleplay my character as mentoring him on what it means to be human and helping him expand his views. Maybe that's too headcannonish and OOC, but dang it! I like him!! ;)

+L. Court Thank youu :) I play most of my characters (maybe even all of them and definitely all 1st playthroughs) as some version of me. The sassy mage (or whatever) with heart of gold version of me, trying to resolve most conflicts peacefully, and get everyone to like me. This in terms of personality, because I never try to make my characters look like me and I enjoy playing as both male and female characters. I find it extremely hard to be cruel or racist or just sort of mean in game. I sometimes make myself suffer through it to explore all possible outcomes which is kind of my thing, but it's really difficult. In F4, the BoS and the Institute (but especially the BoS) represent everything I hate and for now I can't force myself to side with them.

+FluffyNinjaLlama I do the same thing. All my characters are expansions of my own personality w/ a few traits I maybe don't have but admire, or do have and struggle with. I can never play "mean"--its just not fun for me. I always fall on the paragonish spectrum. FO4 has been tough for me. I ran into BOS pretty early and I haven't played many FO games (only New Vegas) so I don't have any exposure to them really. In New Vegas I negotiated a cease fire w/ the NCR & BOS, thinking them douchey but not unredeemable. I liked Danse , Haylen, and even saw some goodness in Rhys. They seemed cool. Got all of Danses' approval convoys by helping settlements, doing helpful chores, and weapons/armor. I didn't see any of the more gross icky racist stuff til I watched some of your companion swaps...and by then I decided I really liked him. ::sigh::....now everything sucks. lol!

+smb0621 The BoS are basically a bunch of nazis in F4 (they were different in F3), and the Institute a bunch of supremacists. I like Danse a lot when talking to him in private, unfortunately outside his private talks he's an awful racist, especially towards other companions, and I can't stand that. I don't like how Bethesda didn't change his dialogue after his personal quest is completed, they should have used this opportunity to make him question BoS's ideology, make him less judgmental, or at the very least say something different to fellow synth companions during companion swaps.
