This is a terrific and very thorough test, but even with the ability to lock a safe, if you want to have access to it, you still have to do that through the console and then re-lock it each time. I think I'm going to make a concrete room for my storage containers as Tabbing a wall into the Workshop and then putting it back requires fewer and less complicated steps. Still, this was an excellent video and I highly recommend it!

I typically just make a storage room where the only entrance is a powered door with a switch. you could also do two different things use the air port as your armory: there is no settler ability at that settlement, so no settlers means no guns being taken. or you could arm all of your settlers with a gun with only a single upgrade, (this makes it so they mark their weapon as special so they don't try to replace it,) and then give them a few rounds for it followed by a single round of 5mm. if you do it correctly, when you add the 5mm they should equip the correct ammunition for their gun, and that will freeze their ammo into infinite ammo.

I noticed something unusual in your video that changes things a bit. While the settlers took items from workplace storage, they only took items from the big red workplace storage item that you use to activate the settlement initially (can't remember the name of it). I tested it out and found that yes, they steal from that red workplace storage item. However, then I put concrete walls tightly around the red workplace storage item and instead put a chemistry station near them. When I did this, they did not take items from the chemistry station. I think that NPCs can only access your workplace storage through the red workplace storage item. I think that if you block that off and access your storage through the workstations, it might actually be secure. Currently I've been using armour racks for all my weapons, but it'd be nice to have more options. Thanks again for this video, btw. It's the best one for this topic that I've found. Clear and methodical.
@johnsmithgames61323 жыл бұрын
I had heard settlers won't take items from armor workbenches, chem stations etc but I never tested it (I think the red one is actually called the "Workshop"). If you can keep settlers even a small distance away from a storage area they can't steal stuff from it. The square floor piece with four walls in the video shows that. (Got a good chuckle out of your icon.)

@johnsmithgames61324 жыл бұрын
They can't open a power door. Don't put anything inside settlers can use - like workstations, beds etc. They'll spawn inside and that can lead to problems. Instead of a power door make your building without a door at all. When you want in, enter workshop mode, select one of the walls and walk in. After you get inside hit cancel and the wall returns to where it was. Works the same on the way out.

I've heard people say settlers will do this, but didn't believe it until now. I store all my legendary weapons in cabinets in Sanctuary, with no real obstacles to keep settlers out, and they have yet to steal anything. Maybe it's because those cabinets are in the farthest eastern area of Sanctuary Hills, where Settlers seldom wander. Raiders and such always attack from the Vault 111 path or the Southwest corner along the river, and I have them working in the center, or guarding those two approaches. So maybe they can't detect the weapon stash from that far away? Anyway, this is good info in case my settlers find my stash. Hehehe.

@@Themasterjtg You don't need to give loads of ammo to a setler. The way the game works is any settler can use any gun with infinite ammo as long as they have 1 type of ammo matching the gun. Awesome video! Did you completely rule out the Armour Rack method by trying more than once to ensure it is 100% safe? My worry is that it was perhaps a 'one off' where both NPC's just so happened not to pick up. A bit like how at 4:29 one NPC did not pick up from the Weapon Rack but the other did when attacking the same enemy If the Armour Rack is a safe way of storing weapons it's most probably because settlers are programmed to collect weapons from Weapon Racks, Containers, Toolboxes, Work Benches or similar but not programmed to collect weapons from Armour Racks as they were not designed to store weapons but armour instead. I only have 15 hours game time (I'm a Fallout noob but a really good shooter and puzzle solver) but do you know if settlers equip themselves automatically with armour as well? If so, I might test to store armour on Weapons Racks to see if that works, using the same ideology as above for Armour Racks and weapons
@johnsmithgames61324 жыл бұрын
My plan for the tests was to run them all five times, so that with two settlers there would be ten trials. Most of the containers failed on the first test so I saw no point in doing another. The display cabinets didn't fail until the third test, the armor racks and console locked safes survived all ten. Is that 100% proof armor racks are secure? Not at all. You could run a million tests then have a failure on the next one. Armor racks aren't your usual container though. To create them Bethesda used an immobilized NPC, which means anything in it is "owned" and the other NPCs in the game are programmed not to steal owned things, which makes armor racks secure.

Ive always kept my guns in my workshop and nothing has ever gone missing. Weird. Did they have a gun on them already? Or were they completely unarmed?
@johnsmithgames61323 жыл бұрын
During an attack if a settler is close to your workbench, or goes close to it, and there is a better weapon and ammo there they will take it. Given enough time and attacks it'll happen. For your other question I'm pretty sure they were unarmed or just had pipe pistols.
@danm20843 жыл бұрын
@@johnsmithgames6132 damn really? Maybe I just haven't noticed because there's so many weapons in my weapons tab of the workshop. Also, sanctuary seems to rarely get attacked for me, which is where i keep basically everything. Also, do they take it if you dont have ammo to match the weapon? Cuz i dont store any ammo, as i just play on very hard, so maybe they dont grab a weapon if theres no ammo to go with it?

The Problem with your test is you are in the cell ... In game if your settlement is attacked, with you in another cell, nothing helps anymore ... You try to hord an ammo typ and a weapon on survival and for later use and they fuck you over ... years ago you could buld a multi level building and store you stuff on the highest level but that don't works anylonger to.

@johnsmithgames61323 жыл бұрын
Settlers won't go very far out of their way to get a weapon, so you've probably just had the cooler in a good spot. The workbench and crafting stations are all linked. If you put a weapon in one they can steal it from another.
