Building was slightly improved in 76 over Fallout 4. Needing plans makes it take more time, but structures do snap together more easily. The wooden walls are a lot nicer too. They’re solid instead of having huge holes all over them. The forced floating objects likely isn’t a glitch since that’s how it was in Fallout 4

Or they were too lazy to redo the building system as a whole, so there are the same glitches (just like the tied fps/speed of the character). But I really do hope i will be surprised by this game :) Waited for a long time to get coop gameplay on fallout

If it works, don’t fix it! The building system in Fallout 4 is solid and even better in 76. But yeah, they did use the same assets from Fallout 4 so 76 is gonna be really similar.

I used to work at wal-mart its the screaming adults you have to look out for - we actually had a guy come in ( I worked over night ) apparently he was on (insert drug here) and the paper towel dispenser insulted his mother and he got into a fist fight with it and was doing pretty solid job till he head butted the metal and concrete pole it was on and knocked himself out till police arrived

Maybe you're not the building guy but another genius. The best in biology or whatever isnt nessarily going to be even a decent builder just because they put their mind to it. Even if they have a knack for it and some prior knowledge they can't do everything without finding plans or doing research.

Realistically, the sole survivor shouldn't have been able to do all that by himself/herself without finding plans. Maybe we should think of that more as a part of the settlement system where other settlers who have knowledge about it help build. Or, it was a new mechanic to the series and they didn't want to disappoint so they gave more than was realistic.

They should have unlocked the most basic items. This way, right out of the vault, you're able to build a small cabin (like yours) and you could then have a mobile base. If you wanted something more elaborate then it'll require plans. Want to build a missile turret? That's a plan. Want to put poo sticks around your home? Unlocked. Off you go.

Did you make generator? Wasteland Dovakiin had her cabin attacked spicificly the generator. She placed her camp near a super mutant camp and they only agro'd when it was turned on. It took them a bit before it blew. Even longer, like 1.5 hrs in-game time when she made a shack for said generator.

A few times last night I couldn't move some item of my house because it said 'Would result in floating object' or something like that. For example I couldn't move the doorframe without picking up the door first. I did have some weirdness with the second floor ladder bit. I couldn't snap it down at all without pulling down the adjacent walls, and then some of the walls had problems placing afterward. One thing I like, if you make a solid house (no windows) then decide you want windows instead, anything that has sideways variants, like the walls, you can store then bring back as another variant. That also works with workbenches, I was able to change styles of weapon bench by storing it and bringing it back out.

I play the game in the same way. When 76 was announced, I immediately knew that building will take a backseat, as I usually built settlements for npc's in Fallout 4. The focus will now be on building smaller structures for myself only. Maybe a place to grow some food and just to call my own. I have been screaming like a kid on Christmas morning, I'll admit, but I accept that 76 is a different set-up, and will enjoy the gameplay. Thanks Cord, I was waiting for a good review on building in 76.

There's always getting friends to help set out blueprints around to help pad an area; I think there's an untapped gem of players placing their camps close-by and coordinating to make really cool settlement-type areas.

I found in my beta play that there is a kind of partnership between building and exploration. The more I explore the more raw material, recipes and blue prints I come upon. The more I build the more ammo, weapons and other items I have. Both produce XP. Also, moving my camp from place to place as I explore allows me to maintain weapons and armor, rest and recover. That's my style of play through.

Loooooved the beta! Played on PC yesterday from 2 to 11 entirely. Got to level 10, And the whole time had a kick ass time! Its nothing like the console version, I met nothing but talkative RP players and more, Its great on PC! The FPS is smooth as hell ultra, And looks super nice. There is so much to do, Don't let people tell you other wise. Read notes, stories, PAY ATTENTION! This game HAS A STORY!

Im more of a "building is a second idea" so I actually enjoyed the building. Having to find blue prints looks like it's gonna be annoying.. but it will show progression (ex. Brick walls will come later in the game I imagine) but other then that I enjoy it.

I agree that it's "okay". I'm disappointed with the fact that I can't build a platform and connect a floor to another platform as if it's a bridge. Also I've run into it giving me an error saying that a concrete block was floating when it was clearly halfway in the ground.

@@julianolds118 if you build a foundation you can't build a floor on it. It's considers a floor when placed I guess. But even if you could you wouldn't be able to delete the foundation bellow the floor cause it would say "this would leave an item floating"

Once you make a blueprint of your house, it becomes difficult to put your house back down once you move your camp. I'd also like to be able to build my camp right beside of my friends. It would be pretty cool to join a server where players are trying to create a actual functioning town, full of shops and houses. I'd like to see a quest giving system where players could give you a fetch quest of something. My goal is to make a bar/shop for other players to come in, buy my food/drugs/guns/etc and also hire other players to hunt junk/food/aid items that I would pay them for and then use that stuff to craft other items players might want or need to sell. I think they would need a upgraded economy system for that though.

I set my place up just outside of that first town and players would stop by, use my benches and drop stuff off at in their boxes and trade. I think there was about 8 people who were coming to me, trading plans or guns with me for bullets since I wasn't far from the tinkering station they hadn't found so I took all the traded goods and made bullets that I was selling for one of the longer beta times. Fun times.

good luck with that I had the same idea... you can't build enough to do that ... it's a massive limitation on the budget and it doesn't seem to go up through levels I haven't been able to build anything in the last 5 levels... Kinda wanna build a "caravan" after a little while of bargaining, I'll move it to a different location, where I can get more weaponry and stuff. Or I can set up a "trade zone" like the diamond city market, where I could gather a team and set up shops in one location, alcohol, perk cards, guns, melee weapons- it will be really neat, and I like the CAMP system of moving settlements around.

i had glitches while building my camp. bad ones. maybe it's because i built it as a bridge over a river, i dunno, but it was wonky as all hell. not letting me connect floors to the foundation pieces in some location because they'd be floating and not attached... to the foundation they were being attached to. items would have a red outline when you can't place them and upon moving them so the outline turns green i'd still get error saying it couldn't be placed for some reason or other. usually happened when trying to plant crops. also like f04 if you place a stairway on a floor section and then try to place a doorway wall on it, it won't let you. but you can place the wall first and then place the stairwell on it... now keep in mind i was having trouble building my bridge across the water so i placed stairs up from the foundation and connected floors to them and then back down the other side first before building my walls and found the most asinine glitch ever... the game refused to let me delete the stairs to place the doorway walls on those spots because it claimed parts of the build would be inaccessible and has to be all one connected structure (a fact i know is false as i have seen other people stream the beta with multiple separate structures in their camp). So what do i do? i build a new stairwell on the adjacent tile and connect to the foundation on that side so that removing the first stairwell would not make the opposite side inaccessible.. and then it still refused to let me remove that stairwell. i even got the same error when trying to tear down the entire structure on the opposite side of the river one piece at a time so i could redo it correctly once i understood the order i'd have to do it to make it work. first the floors and walls and then the stairs leading from the doorways last. it wouldn't let me. it outright told me that parts would be inaccessible no matter what i di and i had to either build around it with no doors or pack it up and move some where else.

The water isn't missing because it's a glitch. Some time after the bombs, the dam broke, leaving the river with a source. That's why the map shows bodies of water that might not be present.

You can get woodscraps off of logs throughout the world. They give 1-10 wood, and they're really common.

I didn't build anything as much as slap everything on the ground to see what they were like. Messy, but I did find out that team mates can build in your plot. It should work that if your teammates have different plans they should be able to put one in your plot.

Build one foundation and place a staircase on it. Then you can use upper floor without the need for extra foundations. So you have a floating second floor. You can build a bunch of turrets to help kill high level enemies to exploit xp, gear, and only use a few components to repair them

I played fallout 4 for almost 2 thousand hours, and all I've done is built bases. Most of the content that I've done in the base / dlc part of fallout 4 without mods is building outdoor vaults at settlements whenever you get the vault plans from the overseer in the vault dlc.

There are two that I've seen; Grease Monkey (Workshop Items are 30%/60% cheaper to repair) and Contractor (Crafting Workshop Items now cost 25%/50% fewer materials) and they are both under Intelligence. Hope this helps!

Home defense perk cards allow you to have better defense and I think that are some other ones that help with your settlement :)

There's a perk that makes your food/water needs slow down when in your or your party member's CAMP as well.

Agility has "home defense" which allows for better turrets. Idk if blueprints are also needed. There are gathering and scrapping perks to aid in getting materials.

@Cordless VII in regards to picking up doors or walls and it still being there is because it is a multiplayer based game so while building and you are inside and pick up a wall someone cant just run in and start shooting you. Im not sure if anyone has addressed you regarding this, but thats the only thing that makes sense about it.

I think it's more so if you want to leave your base while someone is outside, you have to physically open the door while not in build mode. Imagine someone is camping your door, you have a bounty so they want to kill you on sight, and you are making tweaks inside your base. Well you want to go outside, so you have to go out of building mode, therefore in "combat mode" ready to fight. Also, you have to open and close the door physically like in Rust, if you will. That way you can't just pick up the wall, walk through, and then cancel build mode to have the wall snap back in place; therefore making doors obsolete and useless to a smart player, so they would just make bases with no doors so nobody can lockpick their base. It makes sense if you think of it as a multiplayer game, not a true Fallout RPG.

I saw someone's walls being shot by a scorched npc and when he walked past them it had a health bar idk of it was a glitch or meant to be this way. We will see.

Same, I don’t see why people hate the game. The side quests and main quest is great, just wish the loot was better and some more surprising things. The game is visually stunning and I love using the camera and taking screenshots with friends. I love how I can move my settlement wherever, I especially like building on the mountain sides near the top of the world. I love socialising and becoming friends and exploring the wasteland with others, whilst having a laugh on the way. All it needs is improvements and new things along the way, then I’ll be even more hyped. There was also a glitch where people turned invisible and places didn’t render in time but that can surely be fixed.

So I think the reason you can’t walk out of the door that you picked up is because it’s an MMO, and people could walk through the open space of the door you picked up. Essentially someone could hide out and wait for you to open that space and sneak into your base

You can get yourself flagged WANTED if you pick a lock in someone's settlement or take something from it. I learned that the hard way in one of the claimed areas.

I'm not a big builder but since I was out of room in my stash and over-encumbered constantly I thought that building a nice camp would help free up some room. Well I maxed out the budget in no time and still didnt have enough room in camp to store a minigun I found. When the beta ended yesterday I was just standing in the middle of my shack trying to figure out wtf to do. I really hope they expand the stash and budget somewhat for the actual release.

It follows the same from Dying Light with finding blueprints. That was and in Fallout 76 is a motivator for me to explore more so. I think it's a great idea in games that do this. It could be weapons, crafting etc...It works well.

me and my buddy spent a whole day with a 4 hour beta testing the PvP, we spent all out resources from the previous beta, what we did was we built a small house with 4 walls and built a wall around our house with 1 entrance but with no door, inside we set up traps and 4 sentry guns pointing at that 1 entrance and we used up all our land mines scattered them around the entrance inside and out, we even build covers when they make it inside we build obstacle of walls so we could cover, after we were ready we disbanded the 2 man group and he let me killed him and i became a murderer then he re spawned near me then i invited him again, i couldn't see ANYBODY in my map but my buddy was my spy man he could still see everybody so he was the one that alerts if anybody is coming to claim the bounty, after 15 minutes of waiting he told me a group of 3 players coming towards us, sure enough the first wave of these 3 players were killed by us thanks to the landmines we setup, the 3 respawned near our base and they came at us again, they went inside but we were ready, out sentry guns got them pretty good while we were helping, the 3rd wave of these 3 players they killed us because we ran out of ammos and no more heals and they destroyed all my sentry guns, they sent us messages saying GG things like that, i was only lvl 9 and my buddy was lvl 6, after they killed us all 5 of us were just standing in a circle showing love like best fight and strategy ever lol, if i remember it right 1 was lvl 9 2nd guy was lvl 8 and 3rd guy was lvl 11. try this guys it took us a good while to find a perfect flat land and we struggled connecting the way we wanted the walls togo, took us 3 hours to get ready and gather resources and baught as much heals we could.

There IS a new glitch/exploit in building that is with the blueprints like you predicted!!! It allows you to place items in your settlement that you don’t have the blueprints for yet. Let’s use the metal bed you got the plans for at the Overseer’s C.A.M.P. as an example. First, build the metal bed and place it anywhere in your settlement. Then, switch to modify/edit mode by hitting tab in build mode. Select the metal bed you just placed and hit “R” to store/scrap it. When the little menu pops up asking if you want to store or scrap it, hit “R” again to store it. Now, switch back to build mode with tab, and scroll through the build menu until your looking at the plans for the metal bed again. This time don’t place the same stored metal bed. Instead, hit the right and left arrow keys (or hold shift and use “A” and “D”) to cycle through the other types of beds. Now that you have one of the beds in that list built and stored, it will glitch and let you place ANY of the other beds in that list, even though you don’t have the plans and even though the other ones have a slash through them like you can’t build them! I used this glitch to put cuckoo clocks in my house :) lol Enjoy!

I found out you can find a vacant house or already existing structure,.. start the build camp mode and just dress that existing structure up with your stuff.

I claimed a factory that had a ,table, lamp , and some chairs in it and that's how I unlock those items to build.

The floating bug is fixed already. You can't remove the foundation if there is something attached to it.

I'm guessing collision works that way as a consequence of being an online game. The server needs to be able to notify other players of any structure changes, and until you've confirmed the move, as far as the server knows, it's still in place.

Fallout 4 had picket fence magazines for extras in the workshop . So 76 isn't much diffrent in having to find plans . It's just a little tougher initially to jump into building .

If u move ur camp and then go onto the stored items it lets you scroll through the different looks even if they are not unlocked and you can place them this just happened to me so I can say it works

I had such a nice little homestead built and ready to roll for the full game and it sadly just disappeared completely on the last day of the beta. gone off my map like it never existed. Oddly the full camp plan stayed in my blueprints so I can just rebuild the entire thing with the click of a button.... hopefully.

I like the new system but am really surprised with a few things. One is that stairs cannot attach to half or 1/4 floors only the center of full squares, and that you cannot remove stairs from a second story to change them until there is no second story(because you wont have access to the 2nd floor)

Your cabin looks great :) I've tried to build one myself, but mine was pretty basic. Yours on the other hand looks great, which means I've already learned a lot about base building in FO76 from you. Oh, and regarding the "blue prints may cause some issues" point of yours. My cabin was 2x2 and I found a nice looking spot after building it. The spot hat a great view, some high ground and I could build on the high ground and on the area that was like 20feet below (it was some sort of cliff). However, I was not able to place my cabin. Sometimes the game just marked the cabin as red and told me it collided with something (most likely wood and plants), but even when it was green I couldn't place it. Fallout 76 has a lot of technical issues, blue prints are one of them.. but.. I am optimistic that Bethesda will fix these things later on. I've played FO76 for 4 hours and I mostly enjoyed the game. I just hope they'll add an option to deactivate the games bloom effect, because it makes the game look terrible sometimes.

I like the new build menu also I was never a fan of floaty structures. In FO4 I build small sustainable structures for the settlements and continue playing. After questing for a while I just get the urge to build something massive. So I clear out the settlers, scrap/store what I had there originally and build it up from scratch. Plus I love using the grounded mod that you ported over to Bethesda, as a way to terraform the settlement into something new.

I love building a little house with the essentials and a few turrets... then putting it next to an area with loads of high level enemies. Mine is outside the Whitespring near those super mutants and its pretty nice to get a free Missile Launcher whenever i fast travel there! Critics will say it's cheesy, i say i'm saving the lives of many office fans that i'd otherwise wipe out to extinction creating missiles! I've got a great trade right now of taking people's resources and turning them into 10mm SMGs for them!

I learned the hard way about a camp feature yesterday. When you leave a server, your camp disappears along with you and is stored. I had built a camp on the side of an embankment and as it was custom to the location, it could not be rebuilt. I ended up scrapping everything. Also ran into one server where someone else had built on the same location and I was unable to set up

I know why the collision stays after you pick an object up... because otherwise you'd have people building impenetrable bases with no way in except by picking an object up in workshop mode.

The reason you can't pick up the door and walk through is so that people don't just walk out when their being raided or attacked and kill said attackers.

It's not dumb the fact that the game leaves the collision of the object if you select it. It's to avoid other players to clip in it if you deselect it.

When a group of 4 constantly comes back with no repercussion destroying your stuff and you waste like a hour or 2 trying to defend it only to find that there is no way to stop another player thanks to the revenge system. I am interesting in hearing what you think.

I pre-ordered the Power Armor Edition also, but the Beta Code Best Buy sent me was for PC not PS4 and I got an email saying that they'd send the correct one and they never did, so I didn't get to try it. But seems good enough to me, I usually play a few missions then when I get bored put on some music and build up my base, before returning to the actual game, so I don't mind having to look for blueprints, it's also more motivation to actually play the game. Got under a week till its out so I'm not too upset I didn't get to play it, from what I've seen looks a lot like Fallout 4 and I loved that game, wasn't the best Fallout but it was still a lot of fun.

I do like the settlement system....within reason. I like being able to build myself a large structure and setting up defenses...I play with only 1 other person, but in the future I will try and get more in. My own playstyle is...all over the place. Because I'll stop and build up my structure, taking the time to build an upstairs and set up defenses out of easy reach....and then questing, hoarding and when I eventually do port back due to getting too much, I'll then build quite a lot more. >w

I´ve got an awnser for why you cant "glide" through a wall or door while in "build mode". The reason is that you aren´t allowed to build without doors or entrypoints since its online and there is raiding :)

I’m on ps4 and even the extended time I only actually met one person I had a few others doing the story running thu the bigger towns but I was alone for prolly 3hrs then I met a guy when I requested a supply drop and helped him lvl up. But neither of us saw another player close by just on the main map

When Fallout 4 first came out I was just so wrapped but after I think 2 or 300 hours in that game I thought wow it's a futile building these magnificent bases and amazing establishments when I'm the only one that's going to see them, so unless you're the type of person that you know, creates a KZbin channel and creates content and uploads their creations...no one is ever going to see them! ... and honestly literally 3 years ago I posted that I would love for the Fallout 4 world to be online so people could come across other people's creations! how fucking cool would that be?,... how amazing would it be for you in a few friends to create an establishment and have vendors and have other real people players stumbling the across your creations!? OK some of them might be dicks they might attack you some of them might role-playing they might say, " OK this is great, these guys create a little community here and him and his mates, and they're selling weapons or they're selling higher grade recipes ect"!....THAT'S what this game is about, that's the Nexus of this game!.. Get this - My friend and I were playing the 76 beta and we built a little wooden tower thing, nothing huge, just a two story ranger tower looking thing. We built it on some rocks on a ridge overlooking a little town and river. So, you could see it if a player made the right approaches. My friend put down a stash box with a lot of stuff in it. Meanwhile, I watched my friend go explore other parts of the map. We then looked on the map and saw that another player was very close to our little tower we built. We fast travelled back and looked for the other player. We then noticed on the other side of the river on the ridge opposite of our tower, the other player built a little cabin. We snuck over there and rushed in the cabin with the other player still in it making some walls. We noticed that the player took ALL our stuff we had in our stash box. We took it all back and ran back to our tower. We tried killing the guy but we could barely damage him. We assume there must be something more to it than just attacking someone. But, I thought it was a cool encounter and we laughed our asses off.
