I often play as stealth shooter and crouch a lot, and 2:50 has happened to me a few times, especially in large locations. Once in Glassed Cavern, many of the scorched respawned right before my eyes when another player entered the dungeon.

As a side note on that list of 256 item: Computers, game engines, and development frameworks have long been way past the limitations of 8 bit. The length choice is most likely from the development team who had to pick an arbitrary value, and chose a power of 2 (8^2 in this case). Developers love to use those values because of the historical significance. Also, FF does equal to 255 if you convert it from base 16 to base 10 but the 256 limitation is due to computer using binary switches to store data, hence, 8 bit in the case.

Generate a list of your top 10 favorite locations for loose world loot. Cycle through them. Profit. Combine with strictly joining someone elses unlooted private worlds and have them travel with you to each location first and you'll be king! Basically, have someone else spawn the items but doesnt loot anything and then you do the looting. Also, unlooted items can respawn into something else.. bunch of empty nuka cola bottles in machine? first aid container trash? Just dont loot it and come back later. Saw this done in a video from a discord, it's one of those things you dont really have to do but if you got a couple friends and a few hours to kill, you can generate tons of weight of goods.

So, ideally we would loot all the containers and magazines/bobbleheads in an area first. Next, loot an additional ~250 items, and rejoin another server OR have someone spawn the area items for us... and then re-enter that area to loot the containers. Always spawn at your camp first before server hopping if you want to get high level enemies in an area for legendary chances; or leave someone in place in an area that is not crouched to keep it to just items and not have enemies respawn. Handy.

I'm interested in how the game determines how/when to spawn a legendary, for example i remember long ago Watoga Emergency Services building always spawned a legendary enemy 3/4 times but these days its very rare to spawn one, i know this area and some others were nerfed in some way but what determines that it has been long enough for a legendary enemy to respawn, for example the legendary glowing one in the basment of the golf club? Sometimes it will be legendary while other times it will be glowing wendigo or another crowned enemy instead of legendary? Thanks for all you do Turtle

there's a chance for mob to spawn as legendary % based, some enemies have 0% chance and never spawn as legendary otherwise you can't check what's the chance as it's handled by the server

Oh, I asked about damage reduction a while back and ended up doing some of my own experiments. The damage reduction from armor uses the damage number displayed in your pip-boy inspite of damage reduction perks. I tested it out on the queen So if an enemy has the same dr as your damage let's say 50damage over 50 dr then it is cut in half. 25 damage. Luckily, if they have a perk that reduces damage that multiplies the final damage, not the one used in the armor calculation Basically armor just creates another multiplier using your base damage, not how much damage you'd do after the reduction perk is applied.

Perhaps some of this info has changed since launch. So some of these people may have been correct at one point. Also, I believe there is a 24-hour timer that makes stuff fall off your 255 item list without having to pick up 255 items.

255 items is on my personal items looted list. So let's say I want to get the soap from that tub to stock up on oil. I go there grab the 30 or so bars of soap. Then I go around and pick up 255 items to clear my list. Then if I went back to the tub, the bars of soap will be back? Or do I need to server hop, then they will be back?

I’ve had interesting results playing around with respawning items. I’ve found that if I completely clear out an area, specifically fort defiance, if I nuke the area it allows certain items that weren’t there (already looted or didn’t spawn for me) to spawn.

Not sure if you do this now, but a month or so ago you used to be able to go around Nuked Whitesprings killing everything there in about 5 minutes, and then do it all again by loading off the same friend (who was basically AFK and could be located anywhere in the world). Rinse and repeat until you run out of ammo!

And as a side note this probably explains why feeding the people event glitches on an alt that I just try to keep maxed on treasury notes. It goes to the event and the ingredients vanish when walk in. They are probably on the loot list too though they shouldn't be.

So, does anyone know of locations with especially high numbers of loose and easy to collect items? I instantly think of these: - The Freak Show (there are around 60 loose caps lying on one table) - Fort Defiance (countless plastic plates, forks etc. on the 3. floor) - Billings homestead (countless razor grain plants (or do "regrowing" plants not count towards the 255 recent pick-ups list?)) With that, you could loot a certain place (e.g. Fort Defiance for rare dresses), then loot the above mentioned places, login with another character and do it all over again. Or am I missing something?

Thanks! this made a lot of sense to me, I've been trying to figure this out myself. I have also been testing instanced areas (inside the wayward, or overseers home) and I haven't nailed it down yet. I do know that when I do my daily quests, I must at least have a few hours between the time I finish them and the time the server's are re-set for a "new" day. ie I can't do them one hour before the re-set, and have them ready again after(reset/turnover) for "next" day, so far I think it's between 4 and 6 hrs, but not sure yet...

Go to Summerville after you loot a area. Loot all the items in the first building with all the books and Meilurks. Should be over 250 items in that one house. Alot of cloth. Then leave the server, and jump back in. All the items at the place you want to loot should of returned. Good if you trying to farm weights. I will have to test, maybe even looting that place after you get done and returning might actually respawn the stuff depending how long it takes you to loot Summerville.

I have my camp in a building that has a Safe and spawns a few food items, stem packs, etc. Some people have already scavenged through and you won't have the items that were left out on a table but the items like the Safe and Footlockers contain the original random items that you want (ammo, grenades, recipes). It's definitely still worth it if there are a lot of "stored" items, in my experience.

Amazing information as always. But in a more practical use im a little lost on how this works. So, if i may, id like to ask a specific scenario question. Camp McClintock and Military Grade Duct Tape and Military Ammo Bags farming. 1) Do they work with the 10 minute rule? 2) How, if at all, does server hopping work with this place? I have tried many things with varying results. I feel the only reason im getting spawns after it seems cleared out is its a new spawn in a location ive not looted yet. Ive tried going to my house away from area and waiting ten min then sever hopping and going back to McClintock and i find nothing, other than maybe a spawn in a new location as stated above. I also want to know about loose screw items and farming those as well if you wouldnt mind clearing that up please. And as always thanks again.

there are two factors, your personal 255 items list and server location status, basically on fresh server all locations are empty and when you enter location it's checked vs your 255 list and items are spawn, when you loot any items they are removed from location and can't be spawn again for long time

My friend was able to spawn what i looted but sadly that really doesnt help seeing as its her spawns id be stealing. So i still only get one farm off each possible location in the camp. But its clear now. Im surprised that randos dont spawn into others spawns to farm their loot. Glad the player base is respectful. Oddly though we both feel that we have been able to go to a location twice and get repeated spawns while not in a team and server hopping. But only twice. I will try that more to see however. Might be our imaginations.... but I really feel Ive got screw items to spawn twice in Abandoned Bog Town. *shrugs*

I've cleared lucky hole mine with 1 character on a private world.... then did some events and picked up tons and tons of loose items and containers... when I went back to lucky hole mine 7 hours later there were no lootable ore veins to mine.... when I switched the same character to a adventure server and checked again.. still not able to loot the ore veins... I then switched character and joined the same adventure server (joined someone on my friendlist in that world) and checked.... mine veins were lootable for that character.... When I went back the next day with both characters on a private server (roughly 18 hours later) they could both loot the veins again.... I do not know if my experience is indicative of how it is supposed to work but it's how it worked for me (the only time I tried and paid attention to it xD) I have no clue how long the respawn is supposed to be for any character but I noticed that I can't loot the mine twice in one day no matter if I switch server.. (at least I have not been able too so far..)

No mention of Mining Nodes? Before mining nodes were off the personal item cache just like traps (chimes, etc) meaning you could force the respawns and tap them again by fast traveling away from the nodes, server hopping, them traveling back to the area to force their spawn. There's a gaurenteed cluster of 9 copper viens I would farm like this to make plasma cartridges. With Exc PA and the glitch where you can multi-tap nodes before the game despawns them you could easily collect over a thousand ore in minutes. I used past tense because as of the latest minipatch (the enemy respawn glitch fix patch) this seems to no longer be the case. After an hour or so of testing I've reached conclusion that they have forcefully added them to the item cache. I say forcefully because when you load into the zone they still respawn as they always have - but when you approach them the game reinstances you into a state where they are depleted if they are on your 255 item cache (you literally see them disappear and switch to the depleted state right in front of you). If you clear your item cache and force the respawns you can tap them fine.

Hello Angry turtle, new player here. I've been trying to get ballistic fibres at camp mcclintock because my armor breaks when questing but after jumping 15 servers I've only ever gotten one or two spawns. After watching your video, does it mean i need to loot 255 items elsewhere THEN come back to the camp to loot military ammo bags/duct tapes? I do not have the fast travel markers for the other two spawn locations yet. P. S. Loving the content! Very useful for a newer player!

Ok my Turtleguru, I think I understand some issues I had now but to clarify - my level 180 does a round of west tek. I then go back outside to my shelter (just where the 3 bloaters spawn down the road), I bring my other xbox toon in on the spare machine and all those enemies should be respawned? This sounds a lot faster than doing 1 round private, trying a public round and then back to private - on a constant loop all day. Oh, and can I ask what's that melee weapon youre using? Looks fun!

Something's wrong here. I cleared the area outside Blackwater Mines, then left for maybe 5 mins. I came back and everything was still dead, but then I was in my inventory for a minute or two when someone new entered the area. All the mole miners respawned in front of me, and I'm positive I wasn't crouching. Could this be another "against the rules" spawn location?

@@AngryTurtle Not sure. I was inside the building that's to your right as you exit the mines. They respawned almost within arms reach. Very weird since I've never seen this happen in hundreds of hours playing, then as soon as I see your vid..

Amazing work! I've been trying to understand the respawns of items in this game for weeks, and all the stuff I found online was conflicting. I do think this is a terrible way to control respawns though, picking up 250 items!? In a game where I'm constantly worried about how much weight I'm carrying, or even have in my base. I'm just going to be dropping junk everywhere from now on I guess.

Great vid, I personally noticed that ghoul spawns on fissures seem to be linked to mining the ore on top of the normal spawns. Every time I pick up some ore there are spawns, if I don't for a while they don't spawn. Anyone else can confirm this?

Also master turtle I have noticed deposits like lead acid copper all of those will re spawn but I can’t take them like the flowers you showed us and I was all ways curious about that but thanks for explaining us about that, great video my friend, saludos from Texas USA

Nuke zones don't seem to follow this rule, I was doing nuked runs of the burrows and as long as I stayed crouched I was able to run all the lowbies on our team through the burrows, everytime they entered all the ghouls would respawn regardless of if 10 minutes had passed or not. Also if I quit and rejoin my own private server with burrows nuked it will also respawn the ghouls regardless if 10 minutes has passed or not. Edit: All the ghouls would respawn but the robots would not respawn everytime, so they were probably still under the 10 minute rule. Perhaps it has something to do with the upgraded nuked mobs.

How does a nuke zone affect enemy spawns? I nuked Whitesprings, and the enemies never respawned. It was my first nuke, so I don't really know all the basics. Thanks for the knowledge, Turtle.

it's a bug nuke will kill spawns, if you see everything dead wait 10 minutes go back to main menu and log back in to the same server (friend can be required)

10 minutes if you go back to main menu and rejoin otherwise it's something like 2 hours

Hi, Turtle! So, I'm trying to make Tasty Squirrel Stew and need that salt! So, since the 250 items apply to it, could I effectively pick up 250 dirty water to reset that, or would I need to pick up loose things? Sorry if this was already addressed, thanks.
