Here's another question dealing with random "taxing" ... What's up with 10% tax when selling stuff in player vendor

If you want a real explanation for these it's a cap sink, so caps leave the game. In game, chalk it up the the vending machine chewing up caps so they're unusable. Or "eating your quarter" so to speak. For fast travel consider it the cost of supplies to go from a to b.

It forces players to actually walk and explore. By the time you're loaded with caps you have a good feel for the map
@diddydonk525512 күн бұрын
It's the intended way to play the game sure as is meant more towards new players actually going around searching and looting and exploring over using fast travel. For experienced players, they've likely played a large chunk of the game already or done most the game has to offer so it's there for them if they don't want to be slowed down and deal with annoyances and stuff.
@shouldbearealtim13 күн бұрын
It's technically the cost of food and drinks to make the travel. That's why it costs caps. It's still lame, but that's the reason.
@Arkham807613 күн бұрын
This is actually the best explanation.
@diddydonk525512 күн бұрын
I was originally going to say that it could be that you pay caps to the vendors at the stations to use some form of train but I already went against that idea because it would mean only fast travelling to other stations on the map. We just got to think. What does all the fallout games have in common for use of fast travelling when you are asked to pay or just use it for free. Skyrim is even harder because Skyrim is set in a different time and different era so the same fallout travel system wouldn't make sense. Edit: I've actually just figured out the fast travelling system for Skyrim as it's already shown and explained in the game/s on how it works. Horse carriages. U pay to use them, cuts your screen off so it can teleport you there and it will cut back in once you have been teleported there. As for not actually paying for one and doing it without that system, I assume we are just meant to believe it still works the same way.
@WastelandChef13 күн бұрын
One of the reasons that Timothy Cain (co fallout creator) stated is that they want to restrict fast travel in one way or another, as they want you to explore the world as it's intended, and especially to find random encounters, that you otherwise would miss. 😁

Okay, here it is: Every time you fast travel the day is moved forward, but it’s moved forward 24 hours to avoid breaking everyone else’s time experience. The caps you are paying represent the food you would’ve eaten during those 24 hours, the wear and tear you would’ve taken on your gear, whatever you did to sleep for the night, etc. to get your gear back to exactly what it was during departure.

Well tbf, in fallout games, there's many methods of travel that it could be a mix of any one of them really. To get to the far harbor DLC, U travel via a working boat which even on spectacle island, U can see prior instances of previous inhabitants, go to set up there and likely die to mirelurks. For the nukaworld world DLC in fallout 4, U take one of those scenic tram lines to get into and out of nukaworld world. A working team line to cover a long distance. In fallout 4 lore, there are many instances of using vertibirds, pre war vehicles, tanks, cycling bikes, a motorbike, hiring mercs as guards and so on.
@Lordoftheapes7912 күн бұрын
It's just a representation of the resources spent to make the journey. From the dev side, it's a common practice to keep a steady flow of caps being removed from the game.
@diddydonk525512 күн бұрын
In a fallout lore sense as well. Most of these, still ruined states that have been going on for hundreds of years, would've by now, had a stable enough economy and a system that works for everyone in the wastelands. Many fallout 4 instances also explain this. When the minutemen used to inhabit Quincy, they had a thriving economy growing and working there. They were also easily supplying the atom cats and had traders from across the commonwealth also coming in actively to do trades and stuff with the trading caravans. Even the castle followed the same process but in a different way. The castle was the minutemen's way of expanding across the commonwealth and reaching tons of settlers who need help and were desperate. What stopped the minutemen was the mirelurks at the castle. The 3rd major settlement that the minutemen lost control of, was university point. Due to none of the factions being able to agree in a meeting together and that the institute were after some important technology, university point was taken over by the institute and the minutemen had lost university point. Bare in mind that all 3 previous minutemen locations were 3 main and major places in which large scale trading and civil matters and all that, ended up taking place. They likely had forms of travel and large scale and long distance trading, figured out easily.

@diddydonk5255 so, not gonna read past the first sentence. I'm going to go ahead and assume you used other Fallout games to make your point and rambled on a bunch of nonsense that proves you care WAY too much. Fact is, this is ONLY relevant to 76, and because it is an online game.

@Lordoftheapes79 no, yes and no. I don't care that much about the fallout franchise and lore, I just know a bit about it is all. Yes I used other fallout games as an example but that's it. Lastly, no it's not rambling, it's my own opinion on what I thought the fast travel process was considered as and based it on logic and research, something U clearly don't do which is why Ur petty and dumb with Ur response to it.

I know that this isn't a serious video, but the fast travel cost, is simply the cost of food, amenities, and otherwise inconveniences you may face in ur travels. So, for example, the cost in caps is for the cost of water and food, as well as beds you may sleep in while in your way from one place to the other. This makes more sense in other games, because such civilizations exist. In Fallout 76, pre-wastelanders, you may have paid robots, assuming the player made a detour through Whitesprings everytime he went from one corner of the map to the other. Post-Wastelanders is the previous logic. You stay in some inn, pay a merchant for some water and food, etc. A good example of this is Horizon Zero Dawn. In that game you have Fast Travel packs, which are literally backpacks full of supplies, that allow you to make 1 fast travel per. These ofcourse cost money.

@kevenblackworks190613 күн бұрын
@@RickGamesNow Most likely, the tax comes from Wandering Robots, who act as semi-landlords on behalf of management (Enclave). For example, if you live in Grafton, the mayor would odbiously send someone to tax you. Same logic in watoga, since being the mayor does not exempt you from taxes. Again, this logic works more on other games with greater civilizations, but I will admit that in this case, its a bit of a stretch.
@diddydonk525512 күн бұрын
I would partially disagree with this here although I do like the logic behind it. The reason why is because there are quite a few instances in multiple fallout games and I think even in 76 where U can pay to have a room for the night or stay and use a bed. These always have a set price and it wouldn't make sense for it to randomly increase just because of the distance Uve decided to travel costs more. The most likely situation as Ur paying more by distance is by having some caravan hired gun protection as U get to and from places each time. The longer the distance the more it'd be cause they have to feed you, give you drinks and defend you as your being transported between places. As I said before, other fallout games and 76 I believe also have a separate system for sleeping at hotels and inns which are set prices. In fallout 4, it's bring up quite often with certain people and random encounters that paying for protection and actively seeing settlers being guarded by those they hired is actually a common method of travel. Traders are slightly different at least in fallout 4 as they will actively go to multiple settlements you own within the area they work at. Carla will often go to the diner to rest up and presumably trade as well, she goes to abanathy farm, passes the red rocket, goes to sanctuary hills and I think I've seen some other settlements she's also once stopped at before as well. Carla works up north, cricket works from diamond city and in that area, there's 1 or 2 around bunker hill, 1 somewhere north east of the map I believe and 1 or 2 all the wayy down south.

Here's a theroy to mull over. Since our characters in fallout 76 are vault dwellers, maybe in order to fast travel we are using some form of travel technology developed by Vault tech that requires payment in order to operate. I mean it would fit in with the whole money grubbing lower of corporations in the fallout universe. And it would explain why it is that only player characters are the only ones capable a fast traveling in fallout 76.

I've had a few thoughts about this. 1. The caps spent to go to a camp should go to the camp owner. 2. Caps spent to travel to an event, by everyone, go to a random player at the conclusion of the event. 3. Caps spent to travel anywhere else go into a daily or weekly jackpot.

I thought FO76 is a VR world simulation in the plot. Cap economy could be some form of energy transfer to the system, like a recharge and withdraw. Kind of like how the The Matrix uses body heat the FO76 caps could be some kind of simplified crypto AI that requires input and export of direct data to grow or even operate.

200 tax everytime i sell something for 2000. Where is the caps going? Basically nowhere they arent even worth real money there is no limit on how much caps are avaliable there is no fluctuations, inflation etc. You cant even buy caps. Its totally pointless for bethesda to collect tax they cant do anything with. My only problem is they only allow you to have 40,000 total caps? A game run by a bunch of pre schoolers giving out a 5 dollar allowance every week not to mention the gold bullion 400 cap per day like are we dealing with Handicapped developers that think everthing is a great idea without trsting or comunity input
