Fallout London News: More Dev Misinformation

Fallon London now has the greenlight by GOG, except now they say there is more "final preparations" before the mod is ready, which contradicts earlier official statements with further dev misinformation.

Fallout: London is a DLC-sized mod for Bethesda’s Fallout 4. As a continuation of the base game, the mod will allow the player to visit the previously unexplored post-apocalyptic environment of London.
As a divergence from previous official titles in the series, Fallout: London is not set in America. Visiting a totally new setting allows for us to explore totally new cultures which have not homogenized with their American counterparts. It also allows us to explore pre-war European history, and the effects the Resource Wars had on the class structured society of pre-war Britain.

Experts don't work for free. Artists work when their in the mood. Volunteers come & go. I imagine the team consists of 10 core members give/take who probably have day jobs. In such an environment it would be shocking anything gets done at all. Lower your expectations for release date & certainly for quality when it is released & you'll be less disappointed. Couple of years down the road after it has been play tested by the community FOL might be a fun add-on. If your someone who sends money to unknown/unproven "free" developments then I've got several awesome ideas I think you'll be interested in...

I've worked on projects w/30 or so people & 'war never changes'. 3 of us do all the work & 27 stand around w/their fingers in their ears trying to look intelligent. On a project where no one can get fired because there's no money being exchanged you can't think it's very streamlined, right ? Hence I would guess 10 as the core is quite a conservative estimate. One person has an epiphany, 2 agree, 1 has the means/ time to help & it spreads from there. But "mine" is never truly holistically relinquished by the author. Why would it be ? (Limits the emotional onus spread) Point is, your complaining to 2 or 3 people who perhaps haven't spent all the donation $ yet. New car, new girlfriend, why get out of bed ? Or human beings need sleep. & food. Economy sux, take yr pick. Multi million $ movies constantly fail release dates. The entertainment business is staffed & run by flakes. Often well meaning flakes but some form of cereal none the less.

Well i start to understand the problems they are facing. Yesterday i spent the whole day trying to figure it out what was wrong in two quest of two mods i installed. I have a lot of experience in modding Fallout 4 and now i realize that for some hidden reasons some quest don't work and just crash at start. So for the guys of Fallout London making their mod compatible to the NG version must be a pain in the ass and a very long process to track such hidden bugs that suddently appear. When i updated my game with 150 mods i was aware that shit would happen. The game is highly unstable, many mod quests don't work even if i don't see the reason why. So be prepare to wait and be patient, it's a mod that people make for you, spending thousands of hours in it. So take a beer, sit down, look at the clouds passing and stop complaining about things you don't understand.

I agree completely, until the "stop complaining about things you don't understand part" I am merely criticizing their inability to properly communicate with their audience, their constant lies and misinformation. They just need to come out and tell the truth and stop contradicting themselves.

@@ThisisCitrus Yes i know that it's annoying that they don't communicate more but at least they say something sometimes. Most of the modders never answer to questions and don't bother about what people think or expect. As a modder myself i often tried to ask another modder how he did this or that and very often they don't answer or just tell you that they don't want to share their knowledge. Well maybe it's because many time they get atacked, insulted because the mod doesn't work or cause a bug that destroyed saves or because the update doesn't come in time. When i was making mods for Minecraft i made the huge mistake to put my mail and well when i stoped working on that mod the hell went down on me.

It's getting ridiculous at this point, they literally said once they get a greenlight it's good to go so what's the extra delay for? Not to mention that if they do go changing anything at this stage wouldn't that mean they'd have to get GOG to greenlight the project again? This whole "SOON" thing is really dumb too, nothing about anything that's been going on has been "SOON" in the slightest.

the only reason they wouldn't need GOG to go over it again is if the changes weren't to the core of the mod, only minor fixes to make it align with their requirements to be on GOG.. which shouldn't even take that long to polish off a mod that's this close to release

I don't agree with the aesthetic they ran with. Only the U.S had that retro zeerust style in tech and architecture. It is NEVER stated that the UK or Europe shared that. I would have run with at least a 1970s/80s style. Also, you seem to be nitpicking since the mod has apparently been released.

thats fair i might be wrong but they do seem to have a *slightly* different aesthetic to the US retro-futurism of the 1950s. Between the Brodie helmets, service rifle, and posters on the walls, Fallout London seems to be a very 1930s-40s aesthetic rather than 50s. That being said, it seems there is a big spread of where their aesthetic was inspired from; The Tommy soldiers' attire, and general military seem to be inspired a lot from WWI (1910s). The posters everywhere are inspired by WWII propaganda posters (1930s/40s), the buses and cars still seem to be very 1950s and the music seems is very reminiscent of british pop music from the 1960s. Personally I really enjoy the aesthetic, but that's just my take on it :)

I did read a thread saying they were making quite a lot of lolly from their sponsors so being cynical you could argue that the longer they delay the more lolly they get. One question puzzles me though, when they were originally releasing on St. Georges day and then Bethesda did the update so they cancelled it (I think they should of released anyway) they then did the deal with GOG afterwards for releasing it? If that was the case how were they going to release it on St Georges day? Anyway, I was on their discord last night (Prilladog) was on too and they said that they will be no staggered release for paying customers, everyone will get it at the same time so that was something. You do have to take into account though, this is a free mod for the vast majority of us, yes it is frustrating and disappointing but it is still free. If it was say a triple AAA game then they would deserve being taken to task but when it is free I don't think we should imo.

The tools needed for it were suddenly completely incompatible. They are partnered with GOG now because GOG likely helped them with the rollback to a previous version required - GOG already offers baked in support for rolling back to older versions of video games, so likely had a lot of experience. It really can't be understated just how hard modding Fallout 4 is already, and how much the next gen update fucked it. It's very likely that FO4 modding as a whole will be completely dead going forward because of it.

I have been playing my modded Fallout 4 for the past 3 months and never updated to the Next Gen update, there are ways to stop Steam from updating your game. Also there have been ways to DOWNGRADE your game if you did accidently update. These didn't just come out after the Next Gen update, there have been ways to downgrade Fallout 4 and other Bethesda Games for years. The tools were not suddenly incompatible. They did not partner with GOG because GOG helped them with the rollback, they partnered with GOG because Nexus Mods does not allow mods of the size of Fallout London. Everything you said is wrong.

@@anglewoden Most likely just through Nexus. You guys act like this is a grand conspiracy but it's most likely that they thought Nexus would be fine. Then the Nexus team probably warned them it's too much demand and too big to do on their servers. So GOG fixed all their issues Or they just misspook and they always had a deal with GOG. Cause GOG normally gets into these projects pretty early to help out You guys act like the devs aren't human.

It seems like there's been a lot of confusion and frustration around this mod and Bethesda's involvement like the next gen update issue. While some misinformation spread about eight months ago suggested that Bethesda was on board and Todd Howard had taken on Dev's of the Project to work at Bethesda, the head developer of FO London clarified that there has been little to no communication with Bethesda, its hard to know who and what to believe. If the mod comes out, it comes out. In the meantime, there are plenty of other things to focus on. It feels like this video might just be an excuse to express frustration over wanting to play the mod. Personally, I'm glad I never posted my mods. I've had enough negative experiences on Nexus, from being blocked for reporting a bug to offering help for a Skyrim mod, only to be met with hostility despite the Mod creator posting on the page he was looking for help.

@@ThisisCitrus Nexus Mods Is so toxic, I have the basic mods from there never communicate with anyone, Since some idiot banned me from his mods when i said there was a very big issue with the mods he was putting out he said it wasn't bugs and banned me immediately some idiot called greekrage who doesn't like being told his mods have issues, the the Serena overhaul from Skyrim put me off he over sexualised her.. its good but also very very bad. The Modding community is somewhat toxic if you aren't known or haven't posted any mods you aren't getting in..

This release is the biggest mess I've ever seen, if you install it, it has a very high chance to irreparably break your game, they said at time time it doesn't have an uninstaller, this GOG release is not backwards compatible with the steam version in-fact many cannot even get it to start, i tried 6 different ways to install it and all i get is access is denied the moment i press install. others are saying they get the title screen start the game to enter the regular FO4. many are saying the agreement is a GOG contract to send you spam messages. I struggle to understand with so many others why this wants a plug and play DLC mod on nexus, the way others have done it so many times in the past. with all these 'gotta get it to be perfect they broke it', delayed it too many times where Bethesda dropped a next gen update and they panicked. I'm done with this its the worst mod of all time.

Not red flags at all, yellow at most. But be sure of one thing that some have already said. This mod is gonna be a bug mess, it is impossible not to. And again, remind this is a free mod and the guys have no obligation of releasing it even at this point. I personally could not care less about their communication, they are not a professional team, they are hobbyists sharing their work for free, we will help more providing any support we can, instead of complaining about their non existant PR department.

Free mod is a terrible excuse because they have no other option than to make it free. Their communication being poor and lying to their community isn't okay just because they're not professional devs. If MrBeast came out and said all his videos are fake, his community would be pissed. Bro please, use a bit of common sense, those guys could be completely insane nerd brits with serious scheduling problems, they could simply have found a new issue, and the mod can still be coming this week or the next. They don't pay a PR person, and they have no obligation to communicate anything either, and they aren't even making money with this, for the contrary, they are spending money for you to play. They also monetize their youtube, they have a patreon, and they sell merch. So you're wrong there also. By lies I mean they blamed Bethesda and the Fallout 4 patch for the delay, when supposedly the mod was ready to launch on April 23rd. Yet we have to downgrade our Fallout 4 because we're getting the pre-next gen version of FOLON. They also said the mod would release in days/weeks and its been almost two months since then. They have no obligation to communicate, for sure, but when they do they should be accurate and say the truth instead of constant lies and misinformation. I am merely criticizing their communication, they may not pay a PR person but they have a PR person who takes part of the money they earn from youtube/patreon/merch sales. However it seems like the mod is coming out tomorrow or Friday, and I'm super excited about that! I can't wait to play it and I hope its amazing and then we can put their poor communication behind us, hopefully.

@@ThisisCitrus What the other friend just said is another part of it, they could have also applied for Creation Club and chose not to. Selling the mod and paywalling the mod are two different things, they can't sell it on GOG, but they could paywall it on Patreon. Bethesda would have trouble to take them down cause it is still a grey area juridically, and I said parts of the mod, which would make even more difficult for Bethesda to win legally, IF Bethesda decided to go after them, which they most likely would not. So yes, they can paywall the mod or at least parts of the mod as I originally said, besides the fact that they could also have sold the mod in full if they applied for Creation Club. And their current monetization is pifious, they still are way in the red. They did not lie from what I seen, they first decided to try to release it with the next-gen update which was a surprise for them, then they come to the conclusion that it would take too long to make it work, so they decided to make their own downgrader, and now GOG QA, go back, fix last couple of bugs, check everything again. This is complex, this is not a trivial mod, its bigger than the original Fallout 4 in several aspects. Its ok to criticize, but calling someone a liar with these weak arguments is not fair imo.

both on my own and as part of teams.. not a single time from Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fo3, FNV, or Fo4 have i EVER SEEN this badly of a communication issue from a modding team eager to get their content out to the public, especially after an official setback from the parent company of the game in question (the next gen update itself).. most of you whining that he's being impatient have no clue what his background even is unless he tells you it, so sit down and calm yourself before you throw a tantrum in the comments.

I agree. They basically said, "Stay tuned for Friday, we'll drop out next update regarding a possible release date." Again, these mod teams aren't really being transparent. I do hope this mod is a success, though.
