What Is DUST?
DUST is a Post-Apocalyptic survival simulator with an emphasis on lore and story. DUST completely overhauls nearly every aspect of the game to better represent an apocalyptic survival-horror atmosphere. Combat, weather, perks, loot, enemies, you name it. Some areas have even been visually overhauled. All vanilla NPCs have either been killed or changed beyond all recognition. You will not be able to complete quests or join factions. There is but one quest in DUST. Stay alive.
DUST takes place 20 years after the events of New Vegas. As you explore you will slowly learn the story of DUST, but unlike vanilla Fallout, you are not the main character. You are simply a bystander, and must create your own story. There is one way to win DUST. A true survivor must escape the Mojave. With help from notes and keen observation, one may be able to learn of the exit. Even then, the player will have to go a long way to get out.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere of the Mojave has been completely redone. Nearly all weather has either been replaced with that of the Divide or edited to have a dusty/polluted feel. All healthy looking desert plants have been replaced with dead counterparts. Oh, and Lake Mead is drained. Actually the entire Colorado River is drained. It's a Tunneler-infested Labyrinth now. (I am aware of the LOD issues around Mead Canyon, this should be fixed in an update)
Scarcity
Ammo is very rare. Most ammo you find will be junk rounds. Food and water is very rare. And before you get any ideas, no you can't just drink out of one of the many faucets of New Vegas. Plumbing doesn't work in the apocalypse (what? shocking!). You can still drink the brown sludge in the bottom of toilets, though. If you so choose, you can eliminate hunger as a threat by turning cannibal. Cannibalism is treated as an addiction, however, and will result in some penalties. Meds and other loot are also very rare.

Becoming an alcoholic in Dust is like a right of passage. Seems about right haha. (edit:) I agree the time scale is a bit obnoxious. I feel the same way about FO4 survival, and wouldn't blame anyone for slowing that down.

5:00 675 to 476 means toilets give basically 200 H2O not 100. I know rads may be an issue later so hope it helps save some headaches with that.

so, unless dust changes it, Comprehension only gives +1 point per read, and the books all already give +3 anyhow. Also, iirc, Dust completely removes VATS defense... so that's why the nightstalker did so much even in vats.

You should play The Long Dark sometime. If you havent already that is. Still being made but well worth playing atm. Handles the survival aspects in a better way (no chugging food) and has a story mode

It would be a good idea to take all those clothes and supplies and store them in Victor's shack for now, especially all in town junk items. Understone is something you want to keep in mind for important things. But keep an eye on your sanity, too many people killed could lead to some unwelcoming surprise attacks. Sanity, ammo, health, all need to be kept in mind, stealthing through will save a lot, and always aim for the head. Other than that, check off simple mods that could add secondary aid, pre-war cooking and slight state boosts, satchels are always fun. Good to see you learning the ropes and having a blast though man, keep it up

Fallout 4 Horizon is the mod you want. Yes, good food and non irradiated water are very scarce, but you only need to drink and eat about once per day.

Reasonable Needs is a mod to tune dust to be more to your liking! tbf tho a real human can run around the mojave about 3 hours before being so dehydrated they stop sweating and overheat. dust is gentler than that for sure.

You have a garment that you picked up in the last episode that grants +5 to repair. You even mentioned how you should wear it when repairing. You even show in this episode at 35:44!

That drop of .22LR might be related to and come in handy for a weapon that uses it. Keep an eye out for it.

On silly note. You can use these sunset sarsaparilla cratess with "xxx" mark on side as personal move able container pretty much unilmitied storage. Problem is anyone can loot these so best not store ammo inside or enemies loot correct weapon and ammo from such crate and be careful when moving crate with "Z" button as these crates tend to fly away across mojave desert with bethesda physics in play. In my dust playtrough managed to drag such crate from goodsprings up to new vegas main gate with all my loot so never need run back to vic shack for anything.

@@TheWandererPlays Yep quite op but at same time a little tedious quick save/load was used far too many times to not loose that crate enemies explosives could send it flying or pack of tunelers push it away or just could forgot where i left it and run around trying to spot my (portable) storage wasting much time on that.

I've been craving another Dust playthrough, and KZbin just recommended me your series. This was meant to be. I try to stay awake by drinking Nuka Cola and only sleep if I run out of drinks that reduce sleep. You should keep in mind the Ghost Hunter perk if you're goint to be using throwing spears. Vault 11 is teeming with ghost people and ants (thankfully not the fire breathing variety), and they're not too difficult to deal with using a melee weapon to save ammo. The spear lance the ghost people carry is a decent melee weapon that can be fully repaired by a single throwing spear.

There are 4 possible endings to the game, reparing the/a plane is one of those 4 possible endings and the easiest because you only need to gather random junk across the mojave, and then bring them to aIl to a workbench at an airfield. Don't want to spoil anything else so the other 3 endings have more lore but at the cost of being much more difficult (and more satisfying).

I have tried modding New Vegas and it works fine but I just prefer vanilla for some reason. But Dust is one that I really like. It's like worth the time to set up, imo. I enjoy watching your videos, it helps me understand how to play and get the most out of a playing with minimal problems. Thanks for your hard work you do.

You should make your way to Camp Golf and install refill that bottle mod. The lake there has clean water with 0 rads and the mod allows you to fill empty bottles with water, pretty handy for Dust.

Old comment, so sorry if this is too late, but I have some input. All the non-survival difficulties are basically the same gameplay, just the numbers are tweaked, like enemies are more or less bullet-spongey. So, it's fine to jump into survival as your second run. But, if you are feeling confident or brave, you can even start your first run on survival.

Man, I wish the hunger level and thirst level could be tuned. I just came from watching your frost + permadeath series, and the hunger and thirst drain seems a lot slower than dust. Was it because you were in power armor all the time? Dust just seems way harder in general lol.
