I can imagine that 10 years from now this will be used as an actual tool in game development. Game designers would just create a simple geometry and game logic and AI would do the rest in terms of textures and visuals as an "illusion" which probably has a smaller impact on performance than an actual 3D model with a shit ton of polygons. Could also prove amazing for older games like FNV where even if you have a beefy PC it doesn't help much since the game engine can't use its full power.

I am now more and more convinced that someday the time will come when neural networks will be able to create virtual reality from photographs. Just imagine that you upload an old photo from a century ago, and a neural network based on the digital study of photography determines the coordinates of the place where it was taken, and in what year, after which it recreates an entire panorama based on this photo in which we can navigate like in Google maps. Only if we move in Google maps only in certain places and only since 2007, then the neural network will be able to recreate a continuous panorama with 100% similarity of what was beyond photography even in the 19th century.
