How tight is the precision of these hops for avoiding fall damage? And am I right in thinking that (at 5:41) if you don't land on that upper rock you risk breaking your legs later on when jumping down to the switch station?

Somewhat precise, I could always heal and be fine if I were to break my legs but you only have so many meds. Descending Black Mountain to El Dorado is probably the trickiest because it's really easy to hurt yourself there. Between 5:41 and el dorado I would have healed anyways though from the damage I would likely take in the Tops

Yes, so that is a COC trigger, or "center on cell." Each area has this trigger to act as a failsafe if the player goes out of bounds. Most of them are below the ground or under buildings, but this one, known as the "besk skip," (named after besk who found it), can be accessed with a couple stophops around the tower. So the game thinks you're out of bounds and puts you at a pre-designated spot within that cell. No quickloads :) And yes it does seem kinda glitchy but the community has decided to allow it. It saves like 4 seconds or so

Can someone please explain to me how he is able to fast travel to some of these locations before discovering them? And how he was able to keep the grenade launcher in the casino?

The fast travel pop-up is delayed - so if I'm fast enough, I can fast travel to a location (take Black Mountain for example) before the discovery pop-up shows on screen. Because I've ran this game for so long, I have pretty much memorized exactly when I'll discover a location, and I can pull up the pip-boy exactly when I discover. At The Tops, Swank gives me my weapons back once I pass the Speech check about how Benny is a fink, ya dig?

It's required for Yes Man's ending to "meet all the tribes" and the Ultra Luxe is considered one of them - just talking to Mortimer and saying goodbye is enough to satisfy the quest requirement. Similar to why we enter and leave the Gomorrah to meet the Omertas, and why just need to (essentially) discover Red Rock Canyon for the Khans

How did you spawn with armor and weapons and how do you already have 50 speech by lvl 2?

10 Charisma, tagging speech, and +5 to all skills from the Skilled trait give me such high speech early on. And the armor and weapons are from the Mercenary Pack DLC

I am stuck in a loop between trying to stay neutral with everyone which kills my enjoyment of the game. First you need to download the splits from the resources tab on speedrun.com (www.speedrun.com/fallout_nv/resources) and of course also Livesplit. Then you just open up the splits, right click, and go into the "edit splits" settings screen in Livesplit. At the top it should say that load removal is available, and there should be a settings button next to it. In there is the option to turn on the autosplitter so you just gotta check off the box for whichever category you're doing. But I do believe it only works with the splits provided in the resources online

Sadly, the main movement tech of stophopping can only be done on keyboard and mouse as far as I know. However there is a different method called "block boosting" that is done with a controller, which can be useful for console runs. It's not quite as fast overall and kinda difficult, however. Also keep in mind that load times are removed for this run (and pretty much any other PC run) so any Xbox runs will probably need to be timed in real time. Some of the other tricks like the monorail jump and the hoover dam skip might be difficult or impossible as well on console. But speedrunning this game/category is still fun regardless in my opinion, so I would say to check out block boosting if you're set on console or controller only and just keep in mind you may have to use some other alternate strategies compared to this run

The game's speed is tied to framerate, so we keep it capped at 60 to make the game more accessible and consistent. If you play uncapped, the game moves a lot faster. And yeah I've done a couple other categories (snowglobes, max quests, House ending) but I could do some modded runs just for fun. There's going to be a small tournament for glitchless speedruns using the grappling hook mod soon, so that could be worth checking out!

There is indeed a no hopping category, if you go to speedrun.com, in the category extensions for this game there is a "classic glitchless" category. There is still fast travel, but no stophopping! Unfortunately there is still jumping though, as that is still faster than only walking. Maybe you could do your own run, with your own limitations? Sounds fun, would love to see it
