New Vegas's DLC seems to be very diverse and sheds light onto ideas that not many people could have thought about, like being forced to work for a Brotherhood of Steel member to try and take back an abandoned casino surrounded by toxic cloud, or obtaining weapons for wisecrack floating robot brains so that an "evil" scientist doesn't get his hands on them. Between Fallout 3 and New Vegas I would say New Vegas takes the cake for originality, personality, and storytelling in its DLC.

I was kinda amused when Ringo mentioned the 'Mormons' he had plans to trade with, then when I dove into Honest Hearts I completely dug the New Canaanites, especially considering they were flawed. Joshua Graham embodies evening about repentance and Daniel embodies service. both have their flaws, too! Josh is vindictive, Daniel has the unrealistic dream of preserving the Sorrows and spare them from the awful ways of the Wasteland. also even in the new world Zion is gorgeous and full of life. love it!

Frankly Daniel did not get with the program, they would have been killed off without Graham. He had good intentions but were just not gonna fly in the current situation. Graham's character is one of the best in fallout history. I really wish they would have gone into more detail into his character in the DLC through interactions. He was a rather evil person before being tossed into the pit. After a second baptism he seemed to be seeking forgiveness while preserving his tribe. He means well through spirituality but his old sins continued to creep up. Teaching him mercy should have been a much more powerful scene than what it ended up being.

@cgijokerman57874 жыл бұрын
@@awizard8809 true but at the same time, Daniel brings up a good point when talking about Waking Clouds dead husband, something along the lines of these being the last pure people, born withouth knowledge of what the corrupt world used to be like. Not knowing war. Why sully that? Why force them to change? If you have a choice (and according to the end slides, there ARE choices), working together to protect is seemingly and arguably better than working together to demolish, as the end slides talk about how their spirituality sinks and how daniel becomes obselete. The tribes being militarized, which by the way, being militarized means that you're always prepared for war. The tribes quarrel with one another, and without daniel to help dissuade... The dead horses will one day kill the sorrows. Because when joshua dies, his military prowess lives on in the tribe.

I've finished HH twice now and both times I let Joshua execute the leader and didn't stop to think how pointless that would be. I guess Dead Money's lesson of "letting go" should have stayed with me. But at least I knew eradicating the rest of the White Legs would be the best solution. I knew Daniel meant well, but "preserving the innocence" of a tribe in a world filled with warring and greedy factions would just mean the death of the tribe. How was Daniel so blind to the fact that the White Legs would just continue ambushing any caravan coming their way or trying to wipe out any opposing tribe they come across. I really liked Joshua in this.
@KalibreSteelblast9 жыл бұрын
+Ich Bin In a world like Fallout's, justice must be tempered with mercy- but mercy by itself is naivety and dangerous. I hated Daniel's outlook on trying to avoid conflict for the same reason you did- he was willing to help shelter the tribes, but not teach them to protect themselves. He was the opposite of Randall Dean Clark, the Father in the Cave to the Sorrows. Randall protected people as best he could at his own expense, suffering greatly for his kindness but never shying from conflict if it meant protecting others- selflessness in one of it's truest forms. He left behind weapons manuals to give them the means to defend themselves, medical supplies and other things that could help them- and yes, words of comfort, but with substance and emphasis on kindness. Daniel, on the other hand, offered medical care and words of comfort, but his words were meant to shelter others from realities, treating the tribes condescendingly as children instead of a growing culture that needed guidance, not coddling. What did the fate of other tribes and the lands they lived in matter to Daniel if it meant babying the tribes to the point of lying about the pain of reality? When Randall died, he left a lasting impression that gave them the chance to protect themselves- and when Daniel is gone, what then? He would have left behind a child-culture begging for salvation instead of actively working for it. Joshua wasn't perfect, but his heart was in the right place and he was at least pragmatic.
@RadeonX0X9 жыл бұрын
KalibreSteelblast You'll also notice Daniel had a weapon on his back, which would indicate he was willing to kill to defend himself/The Sorrows. Why didn't he extend this sort of mindset to the entire tribe I dunno. A little hypocritical maybe.

Congratulations :> For me, stealing all the gold bars just ruins the whole point of the DLC. After Dead Money, money essentially becomes a non-issue because of the complementary vouchers that are generated in the dropbox, which means you virtually never have to buy stimpacks, radaways, radx-s and you never to spend it on repairing weapons because of the weapon repair kits. If anything, you can find top tier weapons in low condition, spruce them up with repair kits and sell them for a ton of caps.

How what he chooses to do here will effect what lessons they interpret, and thus how they will continue to develop as a culture. If the Sorrows or Joshua weren't a factor? Oh yeah I'd blast the fuckers balls off with a shotgun and watch him squirm and bleed out. But there's more at stake here.

I did the same in my playtrough (Yeah I only bought this game now lol) I shared the same vision as Joshua and since there was so many reasons to eradicate the white legs tribe, I did so. Daniel was way too kind hearted and hypocritical. The ending I got completely satisfied me : Joshua's revenge or precisely redemption was fulfilled, his legend remained stronger than ever at the point that soldiers in Caesar camps talked about it when I visited them. Daniel left in shame but at least he was not dead or lost in his utopia for decades. I love how the game tried to make you feel bad for your choice but I was perfectly fine with them.

It sucks that Daniel really has no "happy" ending. Why couldn't they have refused the Sorrows from fighting? Just you, Joshua, and the Dead Horses against the White Legs while the Sorrows defend their own camp as Randall Clark had told them to. In Randall's final message, he mentions saying that they should strike back at anyone who harms them with righteous fury but not to harm anyone. Not only that but he further backs up the point by saying he had it written to them. If you don't know, Randall Clark is the Sorrows' god and creator known as "The Father." Meh, I'd prefer if Follows-Chalk didn't leave Zion as him never returning could either mean he abandoned his tribe or died, which is bad in my opinion. Yes, I know he was annoying as all hell with his dialogue, but you should have seen Cass originally, says something at every location and says random things very often.

SO YOU BEG IN FRONT OF THE SAME KIND OF GUY. 1) We survived Death. Many times. 2.) If you go with any other faction except Caesar's Legion, you can spit on Caesar's grave with the death of the White Legs. 3.) You are a person with a reputation for DECIMATING your foes.

so, I've read the book of mormon, and seeing as how joshua graham is basically a mormon in this game ive noticed some interesting, fun little things that look to me like the devs did intentionally. The book of mormon is in large part a description of conflicts between 2 nations. Nephites and Lamanites. When I played honest hearts I couldn't help but think about it. regardless if it's true or not, the nations in zion are somewhat similar. The nephites in the book of mormon are said to be lighter skinned than the lamanites, sort of reminding me of the White legs. The sorrows in HH are darker skinned as you can see, and so whats significant about their name, well to LAMENT is to express sorrow, so it's kinda similar there. just some fun trivia i guess, as it could be a coincidence, but seems to me like someone on the dev team had also read the book and figured it would be cool to put aspects in the game cause the book is fuggin nuts with conflict.

Why in your opinion do you think it's better for Follows-Chalk to explore other lands? It sounds great for him to carve out a life and legacy for himself, but I always thought about an inexperienced tribal being taken advantage of and probably killed, especially as he's by himself and as his ending suggests, leaves his only family behind forever.

@@CourierAsy Yeah but my point is they went back, he may have wandered out to explore the wastes from time to time, but he didn't become a vagabond. He always came back home. And he doesn't become the new Mr. Bishop, he just has a kid with either the wife or daughter of the original Mr. Bishop before screwing off to somewhere else. Unless there is NPC dialogue you're referring to that I'm not remembering? From what I remember the only person who mentions Mr. Bishop (who is implied to be the Chosen One's son) is that guy in the Hotel at Novac who you can hire to do shows for the Tops. Wow, this was the first time I've seen Joshua's dialogue on sparing Salt-Upon-Wounds. He admitted to justifying his own pent up anger and resentment towards Caesar and Salt-Upon-Wounds as a just divine retribution ordained by God. And on its wake, it only left behind violence, death and an unending fuel for the burning hatred and bitterness inside Joshua's heart. He convinced himself that it was God's wrath and anger he's putting a means to but on the contrary God wanted peace, forgiveness and happiness in the hearts of his children more than anything. And sparing Salt-Upon-Wounds was finally the key Joshua needed to unshackle himself from the chains he beared for too long.

The most immersive (sp?) endings for this DLC depending on your factions in the war (since Lonesome Road actually gave you certain points varying on your ending) in my opinion. NCR: Help Joshua defend Zion (since White Legs are allied with the Legion as both Joshua and the NCR want less of the Legion's influence as much as possible and with the White Legs, unlike the Great Khans, always being hostile and having no redeeming qualities to them, I felt this match made sense) House/Independent: Either help Joshua or help Daniel, either way works (You really think House would give a fuck about what would happen in Utah?) Legion: Kill everyone (Finish Caesar's job with Joshua especially)
@roboraptor92703 жыл бұрын
Honestly you ask me Daniel was a bad person, he was trying to manipulate the sorrows into abandoning their worship of the cave god for Jesus which isn’t very different from what Caesar did just far less aggressive, and on top of that he was saddened that the sorrows learned how to defend themselves like the cave god wanted

So I've never played this DLC. All that I know is that some of it takes place in Utah (which is where I currently live.) Would anyone care to explain to me the foundation of this story?
@ItchyEyesockets7 жыл бұрын
Well, of course, all of Fallout takes place about 250-300 years in the future, after the Great (nuclear) War between China and the U.S.A. Everything in the DLC takes place in Zion National Park, which being a resident of Utah, I'm very sure you know of. The story's focus is on 2 characters: Joshua Graham, and Daniel. Both of them are Christians (Mormonism is just about the only surviving denomination in the Fallout universe), so the story delves into those themes quite a bit. Joshua Graham is a former legate of Caesar's Legion, and is the one you might have heard was thrown on fire into the Grand Canyon after losing the First Battle of Hoover Dam. He leads a tribe called the Dead Horses, and his story is mostly about choosing between God's wrath, or God's mercy, as the video shows with sparing the chief of the White Leg Tribe. Daniel is a very typical Christian preacher, and most of all wants his tribe, the Sorrows, to stay out of all conflicts. He offers the player a choice between staying and fighting the White Leg Tribe, or evacuating both the Dead Horses and the Sorrows out of Zion. Along with the main questline, there are many side quests involving a few companion characters, along with many people's favorite quest chain about an old survivor from the Great War, Randall Clark. It's an amazing DLC, and I'd say it's tied for the best with Lonesome Road. If you haven't already bought and played it in the last week, and you have the funds for it at the moment, I'd say go for it!
