"Fine" in English actually meant "grand, wonderful, expensive" up until recently. It's still sometimes used this way. A lot of false friends used to have the same meaning but took on and changed to another in one or both languages

Another is “want”,in English you know,but in Dutch it means “because” but if you want you can also use omdat wich means the same

Excellent stuff! Any chance that you can do a False friends in German and Dutch? For example: seltsam in German really means strange unlike zeldzaam! It would be even funnier than with English.

Another false friend is "slim" :) It's not so frequently used, though :)

Funny thing is in Indonesian there is a word Kelar (sounded similar to Klaar) and its only means "done" or "finished" (e.g. pekerjaanku sudah kelar = my work is done) but it doesn't mean anything close to clear/transparent.

Ik vind de slechtste is "slim"😂😂😂. Klaar = ready. Clear = duidelijk, helder Wachten = to wait for To expect = verwachten In verwachting zijn = to be pregnant 🤰 Bezig, druk = busy Ik heb het druk = I'm busy Uiteindelijk = finally Eventueel = maybe, moreover Raar = strange Zeldzaam = rare, seldom

Zeldzaam sounds like Seltsam (🇩🇪), but seltsam means strange so this is is a biiiig false friend. On the other hand, raar sounds like rar, kind of like Rarität (🇩🇪), something that is really rare 😂😂😂
