On a universal scale, the speed of light is very slow. So if this "false vacuum decay" happended, or if it has already happened, it would likely never effect us due to the expansion of the universe.

btw it's not more about the 3rd law of thermodynamics than the 2nd as the 3rd say that the entropy of a system approaches a constant value as the temperature approaches absolute zero. And absolute zero means end of the universe as everything is frozen and can't interact

@@nicolasiiiletzar7984 i think this theory, that the Universe has a certain state of energy that can drop to a lower point is separate from the law of entropy. Entropy stating that the temperature and therefore activity of everything in the universe will eventually make it’s way to the lowest state of activity (abselute zero). What he is saying is that if the Universe has it’s own form of energy level which through entropy could and would drop, everyone and everything we know would cease to be. The Universe would obviously still exist, but it would be so monumentally different that we really have no way of knowing what would happen other than everything we currently know of ceasing to be.

If this theory is true then yes. We obviously dont know if the Universe has a different state of energy than can change other than the activity (temperature) average of all atoms in the universe.

There's a reason this theory is called the false vaccuum. Imaine a ball that goes down a hill, but at some point the hill turns back up for a very brief moment and keeps going down after. The ball obvioulsy seeks the lowest point because of gravity. Because the hill has that bump in it it seems as if thats the lowest point, since it goes a bit higher after. Thats a false vaccuum. The theory basically states that the universe is in one at this time and if it slips to a lower state the chain reaction caused by all matter switching states would create a silent wave going at the speed of light going through the universe. If it hit us we wouldnt even know about it and since the universe is so vast and been around for so long the chances of this happening to any single atom is pretty high, if we arent in the lowest energy state already

if something like this happens some theories predict it would affect either a galaxy or a local group but worst case is it affects the whole universe, the thing is something like this that only travels the speed of light, even if it happens in our local group or even galaxy, it could take 100,000 - 10,000,000 years to affect us and if it happens outside of our supercluster and the universe keeps speeding up it will never reach or affect us. Something like this (if it has already happened, it’s also just a theory so it could be wrong) could be happening now or in many places already and it’ll just never affect us.

So, it might already have happened but we could never know, because it happened somewhere outside the observable universe and would take too long to ever be able to reach us, even at the speed of light.
