In today’s message, we resume our series on the book of Romans after a break during the Advent season. For over one year now, we have explored Romans. Romans 1-9, delve into critical themes of sin, God's wrath, justification, and His sovereignty in salvation. Here's a recap or summary of previous sermons and studies on Romans:
Romans 1-3: The gospel begins with the bad news: all humanity is under the judgment of sin, and no one is righteous (Romans 3:10). Without acknowledging our sinful state, we cannot grasp the good news of salvation through Christ.
Romans 4-5: Justification is by faith, as seen in Abraham’s example. Through one man’s sin (Adam), condemnation came, and through one man’s obedience (Christ), justification and eternal life are offered.
Romans 6-8: Justification leads to sanctification. Believers are called to live as slaves to righteousness, striving for holiness, while assured that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1, 38-39).
Romans 9: Paul addresses God’s sovereignty in election, clarifying that not all descendants of Israel are part of spiritual Israel. God's promises are secure for His chosen people.
As we transition to Romans 10, Paul’s heart aches for his fellow Jews. Though zealous for God, their zeal is misdirected, relying on works rather than faith. Salvation comes not by human effort but by confessing Jesus as Lord and believing in Him with a sincere heart (Romans 10:9-10). Paul reminds us of the necessity of preaching the gospel, as faith comes through hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17).
This chapter emphasizes the futility of works-based salvation and highlights the centrality of Jesus Christ as the only way to righteousness. Paul challenges us to know the truth, trust it in our hearts, and allow it to transform our lives, producing genuine zeal for God.
Let us reflect on the truth of the gospel and examine our hearts:
Do we truly know Christ?
Is our zeal grounded in Him?
May this message inspire you to seek intimacy with Jesus and share His truth with others.
