Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference:
0:00 - Intro
1. 0:23 {Overcoming Covetousness} Why is it so hard to be content? I've been blessed with more than most people, but I'm always wanting MORE. I drain so much money buying more "stuff" and once I see something I like, I'm bummed/stressed until I get to buy it. I don't want to be this way. Please help!
2. 25:10 {Eschatological Timings} What effect does Psalm 110:1 and Luke 20: 42-43 have on the timing or placement of the rapture of the Church in reference to the tribulation?
3. 29:59 {How to Pray for Unbelievers} I don’t believe Calvinism is biblical, but I find that my prayers for unbelievers often sound Calvinistic: “Change their hearts, bring them to You,” etc. How should we pray for unbelievers' salvation?
4. 32:10 {Can We Be as Close as the Disciples?} Do you think that we can have as personal and intimate of a relationship with Jesus as His twelve disciples did? I've heard 1 John 1:1-3 used to support this.
5. 36:17 {Did God Direct Moses to Deceive Pharaoh?} Why did God tell Moses to ask Pharaoh to go "three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God" (Exodus 3: 18) if it wasn't God's intention for them to return to Egypt?
6. 42:58 {Do our Prophecies Create Reality?} Kris Vallotton cites Ezekiel 37:1-6 to claim that our prophecies create reality, rather than just foretelling the future. Is there merit to this?
7. 52:24 {Does Jesus’ Compassion Change?} When Jesus interacts with people, He is often compassionate. However, with the 12, he most often sounds harsh. Does His relationship toward us change once we are “on the team"?
8. 1:00:17 {Moving Forward after Church Hurt} What are your thoughts on how to best get back involved with the Church after you have had past hurts both done to you, and you toward others? Also, should a person go back to the same church, or seek a new one?
9. 1:05:48 {Trinitarian Clarity} How is the Holy Spirit not the Son or Father (Matthew 10: 20, Philippians 1: 19)? These verses confuse me when I’m trying to answer this question.
10. 1:10:38 {Warnings about False Teachings} Do warnings to Churches and believers in verses such as Jude 1:3-4 or other Epistles regarding false/heretical doctrines apply to Mormons who want a relationship with God/Jesus but are just deceived?
11. 1:15:29 {Knowing When to Yield} My pastor wants me to obey my husband even when it hurts my mental health, triggers my eating disorder, or my sleep disorder. Is he right or wrong? He says I should “Die like Christ.”
12. 1:19:03 {Encouragement Amid Physical Limitations} What counsel would you give a discouraged believer with a debilitating chronic illness who carries a lot of guilt for not being able to serve in the ways they want to be able to?
13. 1:24:10 {Jesus AND the Bible = “The Word”?} What is the distinction that is to be made between Jesus and the Bible, as far as the title "Word of God" goes, which is applied to both of them?
14. 1:28:15 {When Translations Vary} What do we do when we find significant difference between translations (such as 1 John 5:7 in the KJV vs. modern translations)?
15. 1:33:08 {Why Did God Choose the Tribe of Levi?} Do we know why God chose the tribe of Levi to be the priesthood?
16. 1:34:26 {Tips for Preparing Your First Sermon} I give my first sermon this Sunday. Any tips/pointers for those going through seminary/preparing for their first sermon(s)?
17. 1:39:29 {Advice for Raising Kids in the Faith} I want to raise my two kids aged 7 and 9 in the faith. I don’t want to push too hard. Any advice? My ex-wife has left the faith, so I feel like it’s up to me (and God).
18. 1:41:23 {Was Paul Married?} I heard a theory that the Apostle Paul was married and a widower. Do you think that’s relevant, and does it have any biblical standing?
19. 1:45:43 {Is My Daughter’s Cancer a Punishment?} When I got pregnant from an ungodly relationship, I turned to God and know He forgave all my sins. But my daughter was born with cancer. Is this a punishment from God?
20. 1:50:19 {Should We Call Out Others’ Sins?} Should we call out sin in the lives of other Christian friends? I had a conversation with my pastor about this in regard to cussing, and he told me if we don't have a mutual edification then it might not be my place.

God pays for what he orders, you will be able to have perfect peace with Jesus once you start doing the following ; love God more than things of this world and dying to self daily Luke 9:23 helps to do that! Luke 9:23 unless you take up your cross daily and follow me you cannot be my disciple! Romans 12: one - two therefore view of God’s grace, offer your body as a living sacrifice holy & acceptable to God; this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind and then you’ll be able to know test and approve what God’s will is, he’s good pleasing and perfect will”! James 4 humble yourself until he lifts you up first Corinthians 4 don’t be in the wrong parade first Peter 4 Judgment begins in the house of God… Simplify your life and don’t go into debt as proverbs says & live for the eternal treasure stored up in heaven, that only you can store up in this lifetime!

Yes we do. It is an honor and so inspiring to have role models and genuine people of God like Pastor Mike. May God bless him and those like him/keep him safe for us! I love his zeal for the Lord and everything he does is to glorify God in everything he does, unapologetically and radically and never compromising the word of God for anything.

Started taking my kids to a Calvary Chapel in St Paul because of you. One of my daughter's and I are getting baptized together on the Sunday after Easter and I'm just.....floored by my absolute turn around. I've had so many paradigm shifts lately my head is spinning. At any rate, if you're a fisher of men, I'm one of your catches. Now I'm overthinking how grateful I am for your ministry. I don't mean to over heap praise on you brother, but...can't even say it all without choking up. suffice to say, you're the best! Thank you so much and God bless.

I, almost daily, think… Mike Winger will never know that my entire walk with God has SHIFTED. Changed, moved. Because I found this resource and influence. And whoever God uses me to touch in the future, I am bringing to the table a different me. This isn’t a “go back easy to before” kind of shift. I don’t know if that makes sense but thank you.

Thank you for taking that first question. It made me realize that I have a problem with covetousness. While many of the things I desire are good and God honoring, I have come to realize I have the wrong heart and attitude towards them at times. Now I know what to watch out for and will be praying for help to change my motives to be solely God honoring.

I had this problem not too long ago, and what really made it even more tempting was social media. I’ve spent hundreds on things that don’t even matter, and on top of that when my husband and I got married we weren’t smart with our money (no savings, no emergency funds) and together we made a lot of money. Now we are in debt and a lot of times can barley afford food for our growing family (4 kids). The worst part was I wasn’t aware at all of my sun when I was living that way. But this is how God taught me to be content, this is how long we had to come. And I’ve never felt more closer to Him and more stronger in my faith than this season we are currently in. I can 💯 confidently say that I am content and I fully trust Him and when we are out of debt our goals and dreams are to invest that extra money we will have back to Him and to helping ppl and friends financially. What I realized these past months is that nothing matters, nothing at all because Jesus is coming back soon, and the biggest thing we need to be concerning ourselves with is loving Him, obeying His commandments, being in constant prayer & raising up our children in that way. God bless you 💕

The car example is good for me, because I'm in the market to replace our people hauler with something that has AWD (live in the mtns). I've done a ton of research and know what I'm looking for. It's been very academic until just this week i was outbid on a vehicle i put on offer on, and felt anger well up in me a little. I've prayed throughout this process that God would guide my search, and to give clear answers. Missing out on a car based on getting outbid over my budget is a clear answer, and i got upset. I've had to repent on this and instead thank God for answering my prayer on that car. Funny how sin seeps in even when you're trying to avoid it.

Online auction? If so just a FYI, alot of those you really have to download some sort of a "bid sniper" app or program these days to win much of anything. Else someone with a program will automatically outbid by by like a dollar or few cents (the minimum usually) at the last split second where there's just no time to even increase it manually. Lost quite a few bids that way before I worked it out haha. I'm not a big fan of it because it becomes just like a battle of who's got the better bid sniper now and of course the though the free ones can get you the win sometimes but better ones you have to pay and sign up. Anyway it's not all of them but, just FYI if you weren't aware.

Thank you Pastor Mike for being such an amazing example of a true Christian pastor! I’ve dealt with a lot of leaders that don’t take care of the people and just strive to exalt themselves over everyone else, behind the guise of “our vision is reaching souls and loving God and loving people” when it’s all about the church leaders. People are not taken care of, and then anyone that has a differing opinion is talked about, looked down on. I thank God for leading me to you, you truly are a gift. You’re attitude towards other people and how you uplift the Bible above anyone else is so inspiring to me. I’m glad I found someone who finally has pushed me forward in proper teaching! Praise God! This is just the beginning, I am looking for a home church with my soon to be husband, where we can get the same kind of teaching and example. Thank you for all your hard work and love :) ♥️ we all love you!

The part about covetousness was very helpful just now. I talked on the phone with my mom today about someday having a little house, but it will be several years away so my husband and I can own the house and not have it own us. My mom planted an idea in my head that she certainly meant well with, but I got off the phone feeling discontent with my apartment. We have a growing family and would love to be out of an apartment, but we live within our means. All that to say, your response to that question pulled me right out of that bad place I was heading. We have an abundance of what we need. More than that my husband and I are believers. We need nothing more. I will still make steps towards goals, but with the right attitude.

Coveting isn't one of those things for me that is a daily temptation, but it can easily become one just the way our culture is! Like you said, social media, online shopping, etc. When I get a package, and I'm satisfied with my shopping experience, I immediately want to buy something else, when I don't even need anything! My mother in law really struggle with coveting in her life. After she passed we had a lot to clean up. It was desperately sad that she had enough furniture, kitchen items, sheets, towels, etc. to house four-five more families, and it was all just stored away in cupboards and closets and storage units. I find myself wanting a better home to host in and have more rooms so we can have a place for people to stay, but I'm also afraid of having a home that makes other people feel envious or covetous. I feel that way when I go to people's homes that are magazine perfect, all matching everything, and I just don't want to be that to other people. I want them to come in, feel comfortable, but not amazed. I want a humble home that I can host people in.

As a new follower of Christ, I am dealing with so many highs and lows, untangling myself from my ‘old life’. What advice could you give someone like me who now, after being saved, and is looking at some legal ‘worldly’ repercussions of my old life? Along the lines of scripture for strength, dealing with shame and guilt, loneliness, courage to do what is right. My family is dealing with grief, cancer, and so much more on top of this. Thanks so much for everything you do, you’ve led me to the Bible and to other creators that have helped me so much, in so so many ways. Waking up every day so conflicted often feels unbearable.

Q1 I like the verses in Proverbs 30, 8-10, a prayer not to be too rich or too poor. You mentioned about not coveting, but he also recognises that being too poor puts pressure on a person to steal. Middle ground is best!

The first question on covetousness really convicted me, especially as one who’s spent a lot of time collecting and admiring watches, to name but one area of covetousness I’m struggling with. When I was young in the Lord, we got a huge amount of money from a lawsuit I didn’t even know existed. I grew up very poor, and never had seen that much money. That was I believe a trial that exposed the covetousness I had not even knew was in my heart. After buying about everything my heart desired, I spent more time worrying about the stuff then my walk with Christ. It led me to buy thousands of dollars worth of music equipment that then led me back to playing music for the world again. Too make a long story longer, that led me back to doing the things I was delivered from to begin with! And it was down hill from there. I got worse than I was before I ever received Christ. I got convinced I was now going to hell, and so I went hyper on fulfilling my desires. Which led to a heart attack, which in the middle of it, I remembered that in the dresser next to the bed, I remembered seeing aspirin a couple days before. And the thought came in my head, “If you take aspirin during a heart attack it will save you!” So I crawled over to the side of the bed and opened the drawer, and the Bible I hadn’t picked up for now a couple years, that was not there last time I looked in the drawer. To let you make sense of my story, when I was probably a month old in Christ, I was woken up in the middle of the night by a hand rubbing my back, like a father would rub his child’s back in the crib. It scared me because it wasn’t a dream! But when I turned to see who was rubbing my back, there was no one there! But I heard a voice tell me to write down a certain scripture, and I did in the back of my Bible. Now when I saw the Bible next to the aspirin, and saw the Bible, I heard that same voice say to me, “Choose”. And I looked at both, and chose my Bible! I then crawled back to the middle of the bed and randomly opened it to the middle of the book, and looked and there was that same scripture I was told to write down years before! Water poured out of my eyes, and said, “Why Lord! Why? Why would you forgive me after all this?” And the voice said, Did not I tell you I would never leave or forsake you! And immediately the chest pain went away! And I ended up giving all that expensive music equipment away, and a couple years later I was helping a church clean out their storage, because they were giving another church a bunch of stuff, and that stuff was that music equipment! Now years later God has restored everything plus concerning music gear, which is only used for ministry, me now being a worship leader. Yes, very easily can possessions take the place of God in our hearts. And I found there were many things in my heart, much darkness I never even realized was there. But God be praised who’s light exposes those things and replaces that darkness with his light! God be with you all!

Question 12. God bless you. We could have an entire conference or series on disability and the church. It’s an extremely difficult culture we have in the church. Mike is correct in that God knows. He sees. It can be hard though as the current modern western culture in general is cruel at its heart. It’s in secular culture. So much toxic positivity and “you make your own reality” “what are you getting out of still being in a wheelchair” etc. that’s all very prevalent in the world and “current thing”. New age or even a lot of psychology’s create your own reality - you bring it on yourself rubbish permeates secular and church culture. The problem could be people take minor truths and develop theories, jokes, ideas, teachings and culture on them and forget the other 80% of the clear and real.

You are absolutely, hands down, my favorite teacher @mike winger. I know you feel a bit uncomfortable hearing that (and I'm not trying to inflate your ego lol) but that's what makes you such a good teacher. NO ONE knows EXACTLY how to interpret every word of the scriptures. We try, but it takes more wisdom than any of us have. You are firm on everything you know but are open to learning because we should all be open to learning more.... THANK YOU. You are a big part of why I became a Christian to begin with. Your teaching reached me when I'm not sure much else aside from God himself could. You are no doubt being used by God and I appreciate your openness to do his work. Keep humble, that's what allows you to keep learning....but please keep the teachings coming. I thank God for your ministry and everyone involved. And a special thank you to your wife. Lol. She's just as much a part of your teaching by her support. I know you put a lot of time into the ministry and she is appreciated. 😊

When I was 17, my church elders held a meeting with my dad and myself, where they discussed the fact that it had been brought to their attention (through church gossip) that I was no longer a virgin and was continuing to "live in sin," with my then current boyfriend. They decided that I was not repentive enough in my promise to never do it again, and because of that, they were required to announce my behavior to my entire congregation. I was mortified. It led to me losing every babysitting job I had had since I was 13. (The parents were scared of me being a "bad example" for their kids, eventhough no-one knew about my sin before they announced it.) Needless to say, this did not lead me to actual repentance. I chose rebellion as my response to this hurt. I left that church. Thankfully, I returned to God a couple of years later. Today, (I'm 48) my dad regrets subjecting me to that, and I am thankful that God has helped me to understand why the elders did what they did... God is good. 😊🙏

My cousin, Bob Hazlett, has a prophetic ministry. But his doctrine is that “words create worlds”. This steps outside of biblical parameters. Regarding Question 1 (Overcoming Covetousness), Ephesians 5:5 isn't about coveting in the sense referred to in Exodus 20:17 & Deuteronomy 5:21. In the Septuagint, the verb translated 'covet' in Exodus 20:17 & Deuteronomy 5:21 is 'epithumeó', the same word Jesus used at Matthew 5:28 about lusting after a woman. Paul used the corresponding noun 'epithumia' in Romans 7:7 & 13:9 when referring to Exodus 20:17 & Deuteronomy 5:21. Properly understood, Exodus 20:17 & Deuteronomy 5:21 have the same meaning as "You shall not lust after ...". In Ephesians 5:5, the noun translated 'covetous' in some translations is 'pleonektés', which simply refers to "a greedy, covetous, rapacious, person; a defrauder, trampling on the rights of others" (Souter). The same Greek word is used at 1 Corinthians 5:10-11 & 6:10. It has no necessary connection with the lust/covet commandment in Exodus 20:17 & Deuteronomy 5:21. Rather, it is more properly construed as an offence against the first commandment and is better translated 'greedy/avaricious'. It would be helpful if Bible translators translated these words more consistently but also so as to bring out their different meanings. Christians need also to understand that temptation isn't sin. We also need to remember that Jesus was tempted in every way that we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15) and that, with every temptation, God provides a means of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). 1 Timothy 6:9 seems especially relevant for the caller.

Can I covet knowledge or peace? Is it sinful to desire to know more about God? Is it sinful to desire peace? I mean as Mike is speaking about desires, I think I truly may have a problem with this. I feel like since about 2016 I've desired nothing more than to find a new church that believes the way I do or what scripture teaches. I think I've been searching for something that does not exist and it has definitely hurt my faith tremendously in searching for the right church.

On the topic of coveting and being materialistic, I do believe and teach my kids that if you desire an object because it opens up opertunities for experiences then work hard and go for it. e.g. A car allows you to drive, paint brushes allow you to paint, a musical instrument allows you to make music, good hiking boots/gear make it so you can enjoy challenging hikes, a laptop just practical enough to allow you to do your office job better etc. On the other hand there are vane, status symbol trash like designer clothes and shoes, jewelry, electronics or things that harm you like unhealthy foods, video games etc. If you find yourself constantly desiring and paying for these things, there's something wrong
