"Low Rider" was a top ten hit for War in 1975. My cousin who is a few years older than me used to crank it up when it came on the radio back then when I was a kid. Comedian George Lopez uses it as the theme song for his TV shows sometimes. He calls the song the "Chicano National Anthem." The band War formed in 1969 as a rock, funk, salsa crossover band fronted by Eric Burdon from The Animals. "Spill the Wine" from 1970 was their first top ten hit. Burdon left the band after two albums, but they kept dropping hits -- "Slippin' into Darkness" in 1972, "Cisco Kid" and "The World Is A Ghetto" in 1973, "Why Can't We Be Friends?" and "Low Rider" in 1975. The official video for "Low Rider" features the band jamming in a studio interwoven with street scenes from Los Angeles in the 1970's -- Adam 12 cop cars included, but mostly low riders and such.

That's a shame, this particular video clips out the really cool sax Solo or lick during the long fade at the end. It's really hot. It was a fun song too and fun to dance to with its salsa influence. But it is partly serious. In the lowrider culture, the idea is that the lowrider is going to be the most well-connected person in the hood because he always goes slow, he always stops to talk to people and hear the latest gossip, he always stops to party a little bit, hot girls will jump into his car for a short bit, guys will jump in sometimes too, he doesn't use much gas and he doesn't go too fast but he's saying, take a little trip with me if you want to know what's REALLY going on around here.

I often think the same thing when watching them. Maybe Brad has a policy of going into a song reaction with zero information, fearing that doing song research prior to it will take away from the purity of the reaction? Personally I think doing a bit of research first, such as reading songfacts, would be a plus but either way not a big deal.

Saxophone 🎷 solo at the end cut short tho. 😔 "Cisco Kid" is another great song from them. 70s and 80s. Ya. OG gangsta lowrider music lol. Many great hits from them. Huge especially in southwest US states. Cali, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona. Mexico too. Song has been on TV and radio forever. Songs are sampled often by rap groups. Yes...it is amazing. But...that was a time when musicians cared about the "craft" of music creation...and production. Most of the band's members grew up completely ensconced in the culture of East Los Angeles. So, it's no wonder that by the time the world became familiar with their sound...everyone presumed that the band was a group of Latinos--because of the precussion-heavy rhythms, that became the band's signature sound. Kinda like what happened with Elvis and rock & roll. But...that's another story.

Every time I hear this song I think of Cheech & Chong's movie "Up In Smoke". Also Check out their songs "Spill The Wine" "Cisco Kid" and "Why Cant We Be friends".

Lex is right - this was used for commercials here in the UK... For Marmite, of all things. It's also in the movie Gone in Sixty Seconds - it's the pump up song Nic Cage and the gang listen to befoee they go heist a bunch of cars.

You'll be surprise how many songs from the 60's and 70's were used in commercials.

Musically, one of the most repetitive songs I've ever heard. The bass player plays the same 2 bar phrase though the ENTIRE song right? Maybe changing one note here and there.

Love u 2. But, gotta say, not many Black dudes named the white name Brad, which might explain why he reacts like a white dude to the funk. Now Lex, whoa. She got that mojo. No offense.

Yeah Brad way too old for a video this was a group started by Eric Burton the singer from the animals he was in the group only briefly but then they continued on a did all these great songs the one that Eric's son on was Spill the Wine dig that Pearl an absolute f****** banger now there is a video with sad because the filmdom performing it so to speak I mean it might be lip sync but that's what they did back in the day boy I love those cars I had a 58 will I still do it's out in the cornfield off Interstate 80 lot of 61 Chevys 61 was like the best year for any car yeah that funny sound you heard that's a chromatic harmonica that sound right at the end that was actually a cypherpunk but it kind of cut it off in that video for some reason yeah if you remember Eric Burdon was the one son House of the Rising Sun way back in 1964 hippos my mind that they did that way back then at the same time that the Beatles showed up on Ed Sullivan you know it's so strange when the Beatles first played on The Ed Sullivan Show during that performance they could not find any statistics of any crimes happening at that time anywhere in the United States the Maharishi he found out about that statistiken thought maybe these guys really are having a profound effect on the world and of course they went and visited him and India many years later I know I went off on a tangent there but yeah you know it's such an original song This Flowrider I mean they have that ascending line that's in harmony and there's a variation in the intervals but other than the bass I really can't tell you what instruments are being played I guess it's a guitar it might be some kind of keyboard but I'm guessing it's some kind of guitar work I wish I could see the sheet music to it maybe I could get Rick beato to do a dissertation on it he's really good at breaking down songs he does a Sigmund on KZbin that's called what makes this song great I'm sorry he does a segment on KZbin NADA Sigmund on KZbin or they updated this Holes google voice activated typing on KZbin and they really f***** it up okay kids
