It’s really difficult to believe the families word’s if there was no substantial proof. I’m not familiar with the legal system by any means and what constitutes proof of an assault but it seems like word of mouth. They may have egged her on (which I know is an excuse) or they may have exaggerated details. Tenfold. All I can glean from this situation is that the whole family hates her or him (idk what they identify as) and they may be making everything up, exaggerating, or whatever Tristan did may be in fact a reality. The judge had to work under the consensus that what reports were made were true so I understand the resulting order. Her appointed lawyer was very good and tried advocating for her very well, and the judge was extremely kind to her given that in writing she assaulted her family on multiple occasions. I feel really bad for her though and this could be pent up anger for mistreatment for years (not an excuse) There is a reason why the suicide rates of transgender people is so fuckin high. Not being accepted by your own family has got to break your soul. I feel horrible for Tristan but it does not justify her actions legally. A sad situation, especially her potentially promising future. I really hope her family comes around. If I were her I would try to fit the mold of what they want her to be (not outwardly transgender) while under their roof. Although it may be too late and I don’t know if Tristan is capable of doing that. Such a sad case tho. I hope Tristan is able to graduate, attend college, and make something of her life and choose her own family who respects and accepts her. Hell maybe I’m wrong maybe she’s an abuser but it feels like she is abused mentally and emotionally. Such a tough case and you can see how painful it is for the judge to make the decision and how he wants to reconvene Monday (today I assume) I just hope Tristan doesn’t do anything stupid including committing. I pray to god that she decides to stay with the world and gain control over her emotions because it is very probable that she is violent when provoked or when she doesn’t get her way. You have to believe the family despite the soul crushing nature of Tristan’s home life. There’s nothing Judge could have done differently and in the end it’s for the best as Tristan can’t afford to catch another case or end up killing someone on impulse. Overall very sad but the verdict was necessary :/

Im with you on all of it, except a 17 year old is not an adult in the state of Texas or in the US. It's the age in which you can be charged as an adult. The mother can be charged with neglect if you kick an under 18 year old out. I know this for a fact. This judge is in my county. I had a friend in high school go through something similar, except he didn't hit anyone. His mom was arrested.

Once he chose violence,he's wrong and also He has been emotionally abused by his family his whole life,they are entitled to have a straight masculine son and very homophobic,he is scapegoated,harassed,neglected and experiences religious abuse regularly.his mom saw a woman's bracelet questioned why he had it,took his bracelet, accused him of being a thief then when he wouldn't agree to her lies,she hit him first, he lapsed in self control due to his past abuse and started hitting her back his mom didn't press charges because she hit him first,the older sister who protected her mom,wasn't targeted but was hurt because she got in the middle and he was still swinging,He feels horrible,is sorry and has remorse.He fell into the trap set by his family who needed a reason to get rid of him and look like good people dealing with a deviant gay son, and now he is in the legal system and homeless and terrified he won't finish school.He doesn't have hope,he believes worst is awaiting him because if people who love him can be his worst enemy,than everybody else is going to be a threat,compare his potential future to a teenager who was loved and encouraged, believes they can accomplish anything and feels safe and supported.

She's 17 and is still developing mentally, emotionally, etc., in addition to dealing with family not loving her for who she is. Her anger, her aggression is probably a product of dealing with all of that. I have a transgender daughter and my heart breaks for this young girl - I wish I could show her the love & acceptance she deserves.
